Pudilová, Jitka ; Sedláček, Jiří (advisor) ; Čajka, Radek (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to assess the preparedness of the Czech Republic for adopting the euro in terms of both nominal and real convergence. The thesis is divided into three main chapters. The first chapter describes the process of forming the European economic and monetary union. The second chapter deals with individual Maastricht convergence criteria and their fulfillment by the Czech Republic. The third chapter analyses the real convergence of the czech economy to the euro area based on selected criteria.

Harmonization of accounting and financial reporting focussed on convergence process between IFRS and US GAAP
Vlčková, Zuzana ; Žárová, Marcela (advisor) ; Černý, Václav (referee)
This thesis explains the main purposes and aims of the convergence process between International Financial Reporting Standards and the American Generally Accepted Accounting Prinicples in a join projects between IASB (International Accounting Standards Board) and FASB (Financial Accounting Standard Board). In respect of the join projects, two are described. These are: "Revenue recognition" and "Presentation of financial statements". A major part of the financial statement element is the draft of statement of comprehensive income. Readers of this thesis will find included information about IFRS conceptual framework and in addition details of its planned replacement, which comes from convergence process.

Statistical analysis of compound distributions
Konečný, Zdeněk ; Druckmüller, Miloslav (referee) ; Michálek, Jaroslav (advisor)
The probability distribution of a random variable created by summing a random number of the independent and identically distributed random variables is called a compound probability distribution. In this work is described a compound distribution as well as a calculation of its characteristics. Especially, the thesis is focused on studying a special case of compound distribution where each addend has the log-normal distribution and their number has the negative binomial distribution. Here are also described some approaches to estimate the parameters of LN and NB distribution. Further, the impact of these estimates on the final compound distribution is analyzed.

The Historical Comparative Analysis of Relation between Financial Reporting Rules and Tax Rules
Mikyska, Petr ; Skálová, Jana (advisor) ; Molín, Jan (referee)
The work deals with the problem of relation between tax rules and financial reporting rules. There are analyzed the arguments for disconnection of the rules, but also the arguments for the convergence of the rules. Various approaches to measure the relation between tax rules and financial reporting rules are shown as well. The analysis of the relation between the rules in the Czech Republic is done with the method developed by Lamb, Nobes and Roberts, for it enables inter country comparison. The results have displayed, that the Czech Republic in relation between tax and financial reporting system inclines to continental system which is characterized by the connection between tax rules and financial reporting rules.

Merger control in EU and USA
Ventová, Kateřina ; Zajíček, Miroslav (advisor) ; Pfeifer, Lukáš (referee)
This diploma thesis aims to compare the approaches of EU and USA to the merger control from the point of view of the competition policy. Its goal is to confirm the hypothesis that both these approaches converge, but there are still significant differences. The comparative method was used to achieve this goal. The necessary information was gained from law regulations, academic papers and books. The results is that in the last years, mainly after the reform of merger control in EU in 2004, the definition of the lessening of the effective competition has been converged and the same happened in the field of horizontal mergers. However there are still significant differences in the area of non-horizontal mergers, mainly because the approach of USA is based on the ideas of Chicago school, but the approach of EU is rather based on the post-Chicago economics. Other differences can be found in the fact, that US merger control system is judicial but in EU it is administrative. Apart of that the US antitrust authorities use more economics and econometrics. These findings are also proved by the arguments of EU and USA in the cases GE/Honeywell and DB/NYX, in which both jurisdictions decided differently.

Building credit scoring models using selected statistical methods in R
Jánoš, Andrej ; Bašta, Milan (advisor) ; Pecáková, Iva (referee)
Credit scoring is important and rapidly developing discipline. The aim of this thesis is to describe basic methods used for building and interpretation of the credit scoring models with an example of application of these methods for designing such models using statistical software R. This thesis is organized into five chapters. In chapter one, the term of credit scoring is explained with main examples of its application and motivation for studying this topic. In the next chapters, three in financial practice most often used methods for building credit scoring models are introduced. In chapter two, the most developed one, logistic regression is discussed. The main emphasis is put on the logistic regression model, which is characterized from a mathematical point of view and also various ways to assess the quality of the model are presented. The other two methods presented in this thesis are decision trees and Random forests, these methods are covered by chapters three and four. An important part of this thesis is a detailed application of the described models to a specific data set Default using the R program. The final fifth chapter is a practical demonstration of building credit scoring models, their diagnostics and subsequent evaluation of their applicability in practice using R. The appendices include used R code and also functions developed for testing of the final model and code used through the thesis. The key aspect of the work is to provide enough theoretical knowledge and practical skills for a reader to fully understand the mentioned models and to be able to apply them in practice.

The process of the nominal and real convergence in Czech Republic after entering European Union
Benedikovičová, Petra ; Nečadová, Marta (advisor) ; Pošta, Vít (referee)
The aim of the bachelor paper is the macroeconomic analysis of the nominal and real convergence of Czech Republic within EU-27. Is the economic and price level of the Czech Republic closer to the level of EU-27? To which extent did the entering of the Czech Republic influence its competitiveness? Does the Czech Republic fulfill the Maastricht Convergence Criteria? I will try to answer these questions with the help of the chosen indicators on the basis of the statistic data available from the Statistical Office of the European Commission Eurostat, national CSO, also according to the evaluation of the Global Competitiveness Report, which is published every year by the World Economic Forum and finally according to the document of the Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic and the Czech National Bank, that has been evaluating the fulfillment of the Maastricht Convergence criteria from the year 2004.

The Book in the Electronic Age
Beranová, Petra ; Brejcha, Jan (advisor) ; Šafaříková, Radana (referee)
Diploma thesis The Book in the Electronic Age deals with print and electronic book. Theory of convergence has been described at the first theoretical part. According to historical evidence, convergence supposed, media be not ejected each other, but their content has just to be changed. Another mentioned theory is remediation. It consists in way which new medium releases. New medium determines itself by borrowing characters of old medium and this content is being transform in terms what the new one needs. The chapter pointing on a strong tradition and an influence of book is concerned in letter print like power instrument. The next part describes print and electronic environment and also includes their differences not only from the perspective of user. History and princip of hypertext is outlined and there has been mentioned hypertext's potential in e-books as well. The newest way of reading electronic books are mentioned there. The theme of failure of e-book is also involved. The question about future of book appears in whole thesis.

Testing for the weak form of the efficient market hypothesis on the Czech stock market by linear and nonlinear methods

Pseudo-triangulations and their use in applied computational geometry
Trčka, Jan ; Kolcun, Alexej (referee) ; Kolingerová, Ivana (advisor)
This thesis shows fundamental properties of pseudo-triangulation, its use as a planar tesselation and implementation of minimal pseudo-triangulation algorithm, which has triangulation as its input. Furthermore, this thesis examines usability of a walking algorithm and two versions of algorithm are proposed. The walking algorithm is also used in an incremental algorithm for a pseudo-triangulation construction. All proposed algorithms have been verified with implementation and experiments.
