The theoretical part is focused to establish the definition of state administration and the latter part of the theoretical part is aimed at social work and social workers in said administration. The main goal of the thesis is to to study the competence boundaries of social workers and their methodswhile facing the limits of their competences. The practical part of the thesis was executed by a qualitative research strategy, to be exact by questioning and semi-structured interviews. The informants were chosen based on their work in the state administration in different institutions and with varied experiences. It is clear from the results that each social worker has a different view on their competence boundaries, although all of them respect and folow a common framework stated by the law. If a social worker finds themselves into situations in which they are facing their competence boundaries, they have described strategies which they apply in practice. Those strategies include indentification of areas in which they feel a lack of their experience and expert knowledge, searching for fitting methods on how to find expert help. This approach allows them to solve situations which overstep their competences more effectively, yet ensure quality care and support for clients.
