Laterality as a determinant of Alzheimer's disease
Stuchlíková, Veronika ; Votápková, Jana (advisor) ; Šlegerová, Lenka (referee)
This thesis studies the e ect of laterality on the probability of developing Alzheimer's disease by investigating whether the disease is more likely to de- velop among left-handers compared to right-handers. It also aims to draw con- clusions about the e ects of other risk factors that were shown to be inconclu- sive in previous empirical research. The data were taken from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative database. The analysis was performed on two dependent diagnostic variables, one binary and the other categorical. The vari- ables were examined using the binary and multinomial logit models, respec- tively. Other regressors included in the models were gender, age, bilingualism and variables related to genetic and lifestyle factors. The results show that left-handedness is insignificant in both our models, i.e., the e ect of laterality on the development of Alzheimer's disease cannot be supported. We further highlight significant results of the e ects of former inconclusive variables, gen- der and obesity. The probability of development is lower for women compared to men, the chances of development also decrease for obese individuals. Influence of specific intervention exercise with aim to skill improvement of no-dominant leg in youth football players
Nesvadba, Vladimír ; Malý, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kaľata, Maroš (referee)
Topic: The effect of a specific intervention program with focus to improve the work of the non-dominant limb in young soccer players Goals: The goal of the thesis is to verify a specific intervention program aimed atm improving the individual's selected gaming activities and the work of the non- dominant limb. Methods: The movement program took place in the period 2. 3. 2023 until 6. 4. 2023. The studied group consisted of 23 probands in the age range of 10-11 years. The test battery was measured with a manual stopwatch. Results: The intervention program had a positive impact on the individual. For the vast majority of probands, there was an improvement in game activities during selected exercises. In 95 % of the probands, there was an average improvement in work with the non-dominant limb by 1.57 seconds. Thanks to this program, not only did the observed values decrease, but it also helped to improve the perception of the importance of working on the non-dominant limb. Neurovisual function in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis
Schusterová, Tereza ; Šafářová, Marcela (advisor) ; Kučerová, Klára (referee)
This thesis deals with the evaluation of neurovisual functions in patients with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS), which is a relatively under-researched topic. The study focuses on comparing selected oculomotor functions using the RightEye device between AIS patients and a healthy control group. The theoretical part introduces the etiology of this spinal deformity, mentioning potential changes in sensory systems that might contribute to the development of AIS. The treatment of this condition is briefly described as well. This section also discusses the possibilities of examining oculomotor functions using eye tracking methods, particularly the RightEye device. Methodology: In the practical section, the results of measurements on the RightEye device were compared between a group of 17 AIS patients and 17 healthy individuals. Both groups underwent device-based measurements, crossed eye-hand lateralization assessment, and hidden strabismus testing. The study assessed saccadic eye movements (targeting vs. overshooting, movement speed) and eye-hand reaction times, with the expectation of better results for the healthy control group. Results: Statistically significant results (p<0.05) were found in the evaluation of the number of repeated vertical and horizontal saccadic movements within a certain...

Initial writing of left-handed pupils
Hečová, Lenka ; Ronková, Jolana (advisor) ; Wildová, Radka (referee)
The thesis deals with lateralityand focuses mainly on left-handedness. The thesis is dividedintoa theoretical part, whichaims to introduce the reader to the concept of laterality and its types, degrees and kinds, then it focuses on left-handedness in the past and present, teaching of initial writing and related hygiene habits, assessment of writing, left-handed writing, writing methodology, bound and unbound writing, stages of teaching writing and aids for left-handedpupils. The aim of the empirical part is to confirm or refute the stated hypotheses by means of questionnaire survey and observation, namely, that the laterality of the teacher has an effect on the teacher's preparation and teaching of initial writing, and that the laterality of the teacher has an effect on the qualityof left-handedpupils' writing, and that the qualityof left-handedpupils' writing when taught by a left-handedteacher is higher than when taught by a right-handed teacher, and to answer the research question of whether teacher laterality has an effect on the development of a teacher's preparations for initial writing, on the teaching of initial writing, and on the quality of pupils' writing. The results of the questionnaire survey and observation confirm all the hypotheses and show that the teacher's laterality affects the...
The influence of laterality of lower limbs of football players on game success rate.
Svoboda, Lukáš ; Dlouhý, Martin (advisor) ; Pokorný, Ladislav (referee)
The work examines 12 players from the English Premier League and their teams. The sample focuses on 3 players with a dominant right lower limb playing on the right side of the pitch, 3 players with a dominant left lower limb playing on the right side of the pitch, 3 players with a dominant left lower limb playing on the left side of the pitch, and 3 players with a dominant right lower limb playing on the left side of the pitch for a period of 3 months, corresponding to 12 matches. The players were monitored using video analysis. Their game success was recorded using notation methods. Statistical data analysis was used to evaluate the collected data. The aim of the work was to determine the success of the players in resolving game situations according to their laterality and playing positions. Their success was also compared and conclusions were drawn from the results. The results of the work showed that players playing on their non-dominant side excel mainly in shooting and passing statistics. Players playing on their dominant side showed significantly better results in centering. It was also found that both groups of players showed minimal percentage difference in the frequency of using their non-dominant limb. Preference boxové řady v závislosti na aktuální mléčné užitkovosti dojnic holštýnského plemene
Trněná, Iva
The aim of this study was to clarify the preference of the pit row based on the current milk yield of cows of Holstein breed. Experiment took place in a particular breeding station in winter and summer. The factors included: current milk yield (kg milk), order of lactation (n) and stage of lactation (days). The object of observation was one section with 59 pits arranged in two rows. Row 1 - closer to the feeding table (n = 29), row 2 - situated closer to the perimeter wall of the stable (n = 30). Dairy cows located in pits were monitored for frequency of standing and lying down. Lying dairy cows, were then monitored for the preferences of lying on the left or right side (laterality). Entry was done during a direct monitoring of dairy cows to a precise diagram of the section by group photoshots. The results demonstrated statistically high probative value that all cows most filled the row located closest to the feeding table. Furthermore, it was found that cows with the yield of 30.1 - 40 kg of milk preferred the row that was closer to the perimeter wall of the stable (P <0.01). For cows with milk yield below 15 kg and over 45 kg of milk was then observed balanced preference of both rows. The order of lactation had statistically significant effect on the preference of the pit row when the row 1was preferred by a greater extent by the cows at first, second and third lactation. On the contrary cows in 5th lactation occupied this row the least. Dairy cows above the 90 days of lactation prefered statistically higher the row closest to the feeding table and the least a row located closer to the perimeter wall of the stable (P < 0,01). Next, in all studied factors (efficiency, order and stage of lactation) was detected a higher prioritization ratio to lay down on the right side (P < 0,01).
