Social-ecological linkages in the practice of Czech development cooperation
Suchá, Lenka ; Dušková, L. ; Seidlová, Aneta ; Schlossarek, M. ; Harmáček, J. ; Bubák, Š. ; Harmáčková, Veronika Zuzana
The Western Province of Zambia is one of the priority regions for Czech development cooperation. However, until now there has been a lack of comprehensive socio-ecological research carried out in this region, which would enable the actors of the Czech development cooperation to better work with the complex socio-ecological context within their projects. The research synthesis report presents in one place a comprehensive summary of the methodological approaches used and the results of their application. In this respect, the research synthesis report presents a unique perspective on socio-ecological linkages in the Western Province of Zambia. The research synthesis report also contains a simplified project methodology so that it can be used by Czech development actors themselves for planning and implementing development projects, if applicable. The research synthesis report also includes a summary of the main implications of the Coop4Wellbeing research for development practice, as well as a set of recommendations for Czech development donors.
Hydrogeology of the Prague Castle area
Harmáček, Jakub ; Weiss, Tomáš (advisor) ; Hrkal, Zbyněk (referee)
The thesis deals with the hydrogeology of the Prague Castle area and focuses on its III. courtyard, where there is an important archeological site hidden under the concrete slab of the courtyard itself. Due to the present groundwater and its influence on the microclimate under this slab, archaeological monuments are endangered and it is necessary to choose the right conservation or restoration interventions. Despite the importance of the influence of water on monuments, the exploration of the area from the point of view of hydrogeology is small and most of the data come only from construction reports, which deal with hydrogeology only marginally. The aim of my work is, in addition to a comprehensive search to extend field measurements, to expand this knowledge and better describe local hydrogeological conditions. In the theoretical part I focus on completing the existing knowledge about hydrogeology and the way humans impact this hydrogeology. The research is followed by a practical part, where with the help of hydrodynamic test and hydrochemical analysis I classify the origin of water and the way it flows in the soil. The literature and measurements show that the water is located in the area in two aquifers: a shallow Quaternary aquifer in the backfills and water flowing in the Ordovician layers....

Harmáček, Jan ; Mücke, Pavel (advisor) ; Wohlmuth Markupová, Jana (referee)
The subject and aim of this diploma thesis is to capture the life story of (Czech) Slovak soldier Anton Malinovský (1922-2011). The greatest emphasis will be placed on the period of his youth and military experience from the Slovak National Uprising, but the other phases of the life of Anton Malinovský will be also reflected. Anton Malinovsky, as a soldier of the Slovak army, participated in the Slovak National Uprising, from where he was captured and used as a forced labor in Bratislava. After the WW2, he became a professional soldier. He served in various departments in Slovakia or in the Infantry School in Milovice and from 1953 until his retirement he worked in the Military Training Center in Nové Město nad Váhom. The work will be chronologically ranging from birth to the death of Anton Malinovský in 2011. From a methodological point of view, the work will use methods of qualitative and historical research, from a typological point of view the concept of biography will be a science-historical life story with elements on the border of an artistic and scientific biography. The work also exploits the concept of sociological imagination. The basis for research and development of the life story will be the memories of Anton Malinovsky, captured by sons at the end of his life on recording equipment,...
Theoretical Approaches and Practical Solutions of the Socio-economic Problems of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs)
Harmáček, Jaromír ; Jeníček, Vladimír (advisor) ; Kašpar, Václav (referee) ; Varadzin, František (referee) ; Foltýn, Jaroslav (referee)
The thesis focuses on theoretical and empirical analysis of economic growth and its implications for economic and social development of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs). The thesis proceeds from the assumption that economic growth is the necessary (but not sufficient) condition for economic, social and human development of societies and nations. In context of the LDCs, this assumption can be modified: it is assumed that it has been the low average rate of growth in the long-run that is associated with the complex social and economic issues of LDCs. The primary objective of the thesis is to verify this association within the LDCs, then to investigate factors that have been the major determinants for economic growth in (African) LDCs. From the perspective of theory the thesis is grounded in theories and models of economic growth that are crucial for researching factors of growth and its implications for development. The thesis focuses also on in-depth analysis of the LDCs both from the classification and statistical perspectives. The latter one is based on comparisons with selected groups of states within the World economy.
Energy dependency of the EU with focus on Russia
Braunová, Marie ; Vošta, Milan (advisor) ; Harmáček, Jaromír (referee)
The European Union is becoming increasingly dependent on energy imports. Especially oil and natural gas imports are rising as their production in Europe declines. The most important energy partner of the EU is Russia, which delivers the biggest volumes of oil and natural gas to european countries. The highest rate of energy dependency on Russia can be observed in eastern and central Europe, where diverzification of energy supplies is one of key issues. It is necessary to reduce the energy dependency on russian gas, but at the same time, it is important to build a stable partnership with Russia, which is striving to become a leader at the global energy market, where demand for fossil fuels is rapidly rising. Apart from searching alternative suppliers to russian natural gas in order to achieve higher energy independence, an important role could play alternative energy sources, energy savings or rebirth of nuclear energy.
