Hrabec, Ondřej ; Chrz, Vladimír (advisor) ; Klusák, Miroslav (referee)
FLOW EXPERIENCE IN VIDEOGAME GENRES ABSTRACT: The thesis Flow experience in videogame genres focuses on the critical dialogue with Csikszentmihalyi's concept of the flow phenomenon. The flow is a standard term for the optimal mental state during playing videogames. The author of this text discusses the original conception of flow as a universal state in all types of activities. He acknowledges a high probability of various ways of experiencing that occurs in relation to different genres and types of activities. With help of qualitative research inspired by the narrative methodology based on eight interviews with videogame journalists, he aims to present a revised dimensional model of flow experience. This thesis indicates three basic types of flow - climax, ilinx and ludic trance - that can be examined on the basis of the ten dimensions of flow (interactivity, intentionality, challenge, exploration, time urgency of executive operations, attention, level of consciousness, experience of power, source of stimul ation and value). The author opines that the revised model of flow is the first step towards a deeper understanding of the diversity of involvement in videogaming which can serve a further research of the optimal experience and categorization of playing styles corresponding with these three different...

Petrů, Vít ; Chrz, Vladimír (advisor) ; Smetáčková, Irena (referee)
The object in this thesis is to investigate why a television series House M.D. is so popular. Television series is conceived as a widely shared pop-culture artefact, which is a major proof how the human mind is shaped by and expressed through culture in terms of cultural psychology. The question of mechanisms, offers or content that are causing the popularity of this series is examined from the perspective of several psychological concepts. The popularity of the series was examined by the analysis of the artefact itself and additionally from the perspective of the viewers. This examination led to the conclusion that the popularity of the series House M.D. lies in several different aspects. The first aspect is seen in innovations this series brings to the viewer due to the traditional established form of medical drama. The second aspect is based on identifying, describing patterns and representing certain offers for various components of viewer ("products for the mind"). The third aspect lies in interpretation of the series as "sociodrama" that solves certain imaginary opposites. The fourth aspect is loosely based on Bamberg's theory of narrative positioning that on three levels shows how the character of doctor House is attractive to the viewer, what it provides and how the series reflects the...

This is way of their perception and experience of surrounding world, how they apply significance and how they think about it. Part of this profile is idea of role and participation within the frame of this world. Next goal of this research is explanation of delinquent behavior as part of intentional profile. Research took place in youth detention center. It consisted of narrative and discourse analysis of four fifty minute long autobiographic interviews with four boys sixteen or seventeen years old with delinquent past. In interviews was emphasized independent selection of subject by respondents themselves. Result of analysis was formation of so-called theory of egocentrism. This theory has been compared with other theories and research and embodied in context of social sciences in second part of this paper. Egocentrism is compared with splitting defense mechanism according to M. Klein. In conclusion of this paper were formulated psychotherapeutic recommendations for employees of youth detention centers for work with juvenile delinquents based on findings of performed research.

Langová, Tereza ; Viktorová, Ida (advisor) ; Chrz, Vladimír (referee)
The material that I received, and which became the basis for my thesis, is an intimate nature and captures the most intimate experiences of girls who are interested in very specific ways ztvárňovat their life experience. Although this experience is inherently subjective and totally unique, bringing us insight into the world of people experiencing psychological problems and are diagnosed with any mental disorder, in this case, borderline personality disorder. Although his work also deals with the symptoms and causes of this disorder, the focus of my work lies elsewhere. I am not not so much a description of its manifestations, which can be found in the diary very much, but rather the way this girl with these difficult balances, and last but not least, some sebeuzdravující mechanisms, which in the course of their individuation learns. The boundary between "normal world" and "mentally disturbed world" is often given by the sum of flags, numbers and quantitative data. But I would like to turn our attention to such manifestations of the psyche of the individual, enabling him to escape from the room as if it encircled his diagnosis. Not all symptoms that the dynamics of individual personalities emerge as a result of his mental disorder must be seen as something negative, a clear deterioration in its ability to...

Meditation of meaning in RPG
Pekárková, Kateřina ; Klusák, Miroslav (referee) ; Chrz, Vladimír (advisor)
The presented thesis is focused on the Role Playing Games (RPGs). These games developed from strategic war games in 70's in the USA, where they immediately gained a huge popularity and expanded to other countries. In the Czech Republic the first RPG called Draci doupe was published in 1990. In spite of robust expansion of these games, there is just a few scholarly papers about them, especially in the Czech Republic. Here, we find mainly students' papers, which are enthusiastic and well-oriented in RPGs but not enough interested in science. This thesis aspires on scientific framing of RPGs. There are many appealing topics in the RPGs - e.g. cooperation between players, collective construction of game world and events, personality traits of heroes played by players and their relationship to players' identities. In our research we adopt the approach of cultural-historical psychology from Vygotskij, Leontjev and Engestrom, and therefore we focused on the interactions between game participants and on the artifacts which modulate these interactions. Due to the specific structure of the investigated game group we revealed an educational relationship between the players and Game Master, we concentrated on this relationship and tried to analyze it. We revealed the meaning as the main topic in RPGs. We describe the...

The objective of the work is to understand the experience of individuals with schizophrenia diagnosis using the hermeneutic-narrative approach. The theoretical foundation for the research is conception of "narrative structured experience", which is understood as way, how to understand and describe connections and meanings within an autobiographical narration. The methodological foundation of the work is the hermeneutic-narrative approach and its assumption that the human experience is narratively structured. Thus, if we want to study, what it is like to "become a schizophrenic individual", it is possible to explore the way, how this experience and the relevant understanding are structured in a narration. Using the life-story analysis we can explore, how the individuals acts in their life experience, how they cope with psychotic states of their consciousness and how their life is reflected by them and by others. Analysis also reveals connections between influence of their family environment, communication patterns and "giving the meaning" to the experience within their life. The research sample consists of 8 service users of shelterd community housing for people with psychotic experience (in two different towns in Czech Republic). The data collection methods were the narrative interviews facilitated with the...
The experience of autistic child parents
Ryšánková, Gabriela ; Chrz, Vladimír (advisor) ; Sotáková, Hana (referee)
The objective of work is to try to describe the experience of parents of children with autism (how these parents perceive this experience and live through it and what this experience means to them). The research progresses from the problem approach (autism as a diagnosis and psychology of the families with children with autism) to the choice of narrative approach as the way of approach to this experience and moreover to the origin of the narrative analysis cathegories. The narrative approach has been chosen for this research as the human experience is also narratively structured. So if the experience of parents of children with autism is to be studied the narrations can be percieved as the means of researched experience approach. Based on the life -stories analysis we can better describe and understand how the parents face to troubles and to their uneasy fates. For the collecting data process three main steps have been used. The first step includes the process from the data to the repeated topics. It also consists of categories of narrative analysis which contents two major terms - agency and positioning. These categories as the higher level terms lead to a number of categories, which mean a framework of the research. The interview analysis from the point of view of the recommended categories are the main...
