Comparison of Cultural Values of University Students Based on the Hofstede's Dimensions in Selected Countries (the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic and Austria)
Morávková, Hana ; Drbohlav, Dušan (advisor) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (referee)
The master thesis is focusing on Hofstede's cultural dimensions in Prague, Bratislava and Vienna. There were 174 students who filled-in the questionnaire called "Value survey 1994". The aim of this work is to verify results of Hofstede's cultural dimensions and discuss obstacles of his methodology. One of the challenges is to create a comparable sample of respondents. Their characteristics should be as similar as possible except for nationality. The sample of 160 students was tested by Kruskal-Wallis test and groups were not significantly different. The interesting finding was the age of students. Although students in Austria enter university when they are 18, it is one year earlier than in Czechia and Slovakia, the student were same age. The results were litle bit different from Hofstedeho values because of university surrounding/enviroment. As this model is obsolete, today's cross-cultural researches are using cluster analysis which compares countries from made up graph of vaules which tend to group based on cross-national differencies. Hofstede's model was used because of his availability and simplicity. In addition, this work is trying to utilize Hofstede's model in Social Geography. However, this work found cross-cultural research very usefull for characterizing countries with possible use in...
Spatial Distribution of Immigrants in Italy
Pavelková, Lenka ; Drbohlav, Dušan (advisor) ; Siwek, Tadeusz (referee)
This thesis focuses on spatial distribution of immigrants in Italy. In the beginning, it presents three migration theories used in the thesis (network theory, Human Capital Model, institutional theory) and related hypothesis for the research. Then it summarises the migration history of Italy since the Second World War and the current situation. After that, the tex proceeds to the examination of the spatial distribution of immigrants in Italy. The examination is done in two ways. First, there is analysis of statistical data by correlation analysis which tries to find factors which explain the immigrants' distribution in Italy. Second is the analysis of the results of a survey done in Trieste, Italy, between March and June 2011 among the two largest groups of immigrants living in the province of Trieste (those with citizenship of Serbia and Romania). The main results are that one of the most important factors for the immigrants' distribution are the job opportunities and better earnings for themselves and for their families. Interestingly, the network theory wasn't supported by the research, especially for Romanians who seem to prefer provinces with less Romanians (and foreigners in general) already present. After the analysis, the results are compared with the situation in the Czech Republic. For further...

Jelínková, Marie ; Čabanová, Bohumila (advisor) ; Drbohlav, Dušan (referee) ; Muhič Dizdarevič, Selma (referee)
In the period between the years 2006 and 2008, a significant increase in the migration of Mongolians to the Czech Republic could be seen. The Mongolians came to the Czech Republic mainly through formal and informal intermediary agencies and most of them worked as unskilled labor. With a few exceptions, they originally arrived to the CR with work and residence permits, yet a large part of them lost their permits during their first two years of stay. Even those who managed to live and work in the CR legally faced frequent violations of their rights. The research on Mongolian migration presented in this doctoral thesis was carried out as a case study. By looking at this specific problem area, fundamental problems posed for Mongolian migrants by the set-up of the Czech migration and integration policies could be analyzed. This work does not address these policies only and the ways they are set up, but also the manner of implementation and the specific impact of these policies on the life of the monitored migrants. It shows that major problems in the way migration policy is set up and regulated are encountered already by the visa applicants still in Mongolia. The results of the research also show that Czech migration policies put a large part of the Mongolian respondents into positions of dependency on their...

Immigration and Integration Policy of France - at the Supranational, National and Local Level
Seidlová, Markéta ; Drbohlav, Dušan (advisor) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (referee) ; Rozumek, Martin (referee)
The thesis analyzes immigration and integration policy of France at the three different levels (supranational, national and local), while the choice of France was inspired by the fact that this country has among the European ones the longest tradition of receiving immigrants. The work is based on theoretical and conceptual approaches to international migration as well as on immigration and integration policies. In case of theoretical and conceptual approaches, it was mostly inspired by the concept of Heckmann' four dimensions of the process of social integration (Heckmann and Schnapper, 2003; Bosswick and Heckmann, 2006), by the Entzinger' and Biezeveld' (2003) assessment of integration as the resulting state and especially by Alexander's (2007) classification of policies implemented by local authorities, which allows as one of rare concepts to compare policy-making at the national and local level. From the methodological point of view, two regions which best suited the preliminary requirements on different share of immigrants in population on each territory and the difference between "city in rural area - metropolis" were chosen: Paris (or more precisely its 14 districts) and seven cities in the region of Basse-Normandie (Caen, Hérouville-Saint-Clair, Cherbourg-Octeville, Flers, Alençon, Argentan...
