Analysis of study applicants behavior on the website Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague.
Matička, Petr ; Souček, Martin (advisor) ; Jarolímková, Adéla (referee)
This thesis aims to clarify the issue of web analytics in general and at the same time offer its own analysis of Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague website. Each visitor leaves behind some trace - information that can be retrospectively analyzed and used for purely commercial purposes or for further improvement of the site. For purposes of my research I used two instruments. Analytical tool provided free of charge by Google - Google Analytics and method of questionnaires. With the first method I examined individuals interested in studying at the Faculty of Arts in a given period of time, which represents the period of the highest interest in terms of searching information about studies during academic year. The second method was then applied to narrower group interested in studying Information Studies and Librarianship during the preparatory course. Based on the analysis I came to conclusions that led to several final recommendations for possible website optimization.

Mgr. Lenka Němečková An analysis of research support in engineering with the emphasis on a university environment and based upon a survey of information behavior and information needs at the CTU in Prague and UCT Prague (dissertation thesis) Analýza informační podpory uživatelů z oblasti technických oborů a věd s důrazem na vysokoškolské prostředí a opírající se o výzkum informačního chování a informačních potřeb provedený na ČVUT v Praze a VŠCHT Praha (disertační práce) Abstract This thesis is focused on the analysis of researchers' information behavior and information needs in engineering in academia and in industry. It is aimed at identifying trends in research support by university libraries based on research of information behavior and information needs that has been conducted at the CTU in Prague and UCT Prague and by a brief insight into industrial environment. Initial parts of the thesis provide an overview of classification schemes in engineering. It also describes brief differences between university and industry environment with the aim at defining the differences in user information needs. It further provides brief summary of theories and models of information behavior and identifies differences between information needs of students and researchers concluding in defining research skills as basic...
Subject Information Gateway Musica (MUS)
Mapping of physiotherapy techniques terminology in scientific databases
Novák, Michal ; Kučerová, Helena (advisor) ; Jarolímková, Adéla (referee)
in English This Bachelors thesis is dedicated to the major bibliographic databases in physiotherapy and mapping concepts between them. Firstly, based on the amount of important scientific journals, the most important bibliographic databases were identified and then they were analysed. That brought basic information about individual databases and about system how there are documents organised. These knowledge organisation systems were examined further with increased emphasis on concepts related to physiotherapy, especially physiotherapy techniques. Each concept was mapped across the analysed bibliographic databases and presented in a scheme, which can help to make information retrieval in those databases more efficient or as a principle for further investigation of those concepts and their relationship in medical bibliographic databases.

Theory and praxis of medical professionals' information behaviour
Jarolímková, Adéla ; Papík, Richard (advisor) ; Vlasák, Rudolf (referee) ; Špála, Milan (referee)
There were huge changes in spreading and use of scientific medical information in last fifteen years due to development of new information and communication technologies and changes in medicine as well. The research described in this thesis adresses possible changes in information behaviour of physicians and other healthcare workers both abroad and in the Czech Republic. Foreign studies were reviewed and summarized. A survey method was used for the Czech research, the survey was spread with the help of medical libraries and information centers both in print and online version. 228 valid answers were collected. Several factors were supposed to influence information behaviour (age, sex, affiliation, healthcare occupation, job description), but only the influence of affiliation and occupation was confirmed. There were significant differences between information behaviour of physicians and nurses and between research workers and hospital employees. It can be said that information behaviour of healthcare workers is influenced by the character of their occupation, that entails responsibility for life and that demands both a lot of information and lifelong education. On the other hand the high workload does not offer enough time to saturate information needs. Emphasis is placed on reliability of resources, but...
