Energy transition

This thesis deals with energy transition and its environmental, economic, social, and political impacts. The objective was to present the current state of the energy system and examine the reasons for its ongoing change. The thesis is divided into four parts - Types and Uses of Energy, Energy and the Environment, Economic Aspects of Energy Transition and Energy Politics. The first chapter classifies energy source types and renewable energy. The second chapter stresses environmental problems arising from energy production. The third chapter focuses on the economic and socio-economic aspects of the energy transition and the last part analyzes important energy markets and describes their cooperation. Each chapter is based on the review of diverse scientific and popular scientific literature.
Strojové překlady odborných textů

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá a následně testuje způsoby pro hodnocení dvou strojových překladačů, a to od firmy Google a Microsoft. Na základě stanovených kritérií hodnotí jejich chybovost. Při hodnocení překladačů se práce zaměřuje nejen na to, zdali daný překladač dokázal přeložit soubor textů správně pravopisně a stylisticky, ale i zda odborná terminologie spolu s myšlenkou věty odpovídá původnímu textu. Na závěr ze získaných dat chybovosti je možné usoudit, pro jaké využití bude daný překladač způsobilejší.
The Co-operative Principle in technical texts

The thesis analyses the usage of the Cooperative principle in technical texts as well as concepts related to it. The Cooperative principle specified by Grice is one of the most prominent theories in pragmatics, and its usage can be observed or neglected almost in every communication. With that in mind, the author of the thesis analyzes technical texts and describes various pragmatic aspects related to this principle. Furthermore, the thesis describes the Politeness principle, which is related to the Cooperative principle, demonstrates its appliance and describes various politeness strategies used in technical texts. The pragmatic aspects of the technical texts are explained in this thesis as well, and their usage is shown in the text. Lastly, the series of technical texts are compared with texts non-technical and the difference in usage of the Cooperative and Politeness principle is observed and described.

This thesis is concerned with the full description of the process of translation of the first chapter of ČVUT electro-engineering textbook. This text will be used by future ERASMUS students coming to Prague to study electro-engineering. This thesis consists of an explained list of translation theories, the translated text itself, demonstration of mentioned theories and conclusion with personal experience.
Comparative analysis of professional English texts

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to compare three professional English texts which describe humanoid robots, each from a different perspective. The first text is taken from a scientific magazine called ‘Science Robotics‘ and represents the popular-scientific style. The second text is taken from the book ‘Humanoid Robots, Human-like machines‘ and it is an example of the scientific prose style. The third material used for the analysis is a video that was released on a YouTube channel of company CNET. It was necessary to convert the video to written form, before starting to analyse it. Certainly, there are considerable distinctions between these texts because they are intended for different types of readers or listeners. The bachelor thesis describes the contents of these three texts and explains their styles. Moreover, the thesis focuses on the comparison of spoken and written discourse, the language functions of the texts according to the linguist Roman Jacobson, and the register levels of the analysis.

The subject of intellectual property can be very complicated. This bachelor’s thesis focuses mainly on intellectual property from a scientific and industrial standpoint and the discourse of patent documentation. This thesis aims to provide an overview and a quick guide for any potential applicants for patents or any other types of intellectual property described in this thesis - be they from the public or scholarly. This thesis is further focused on the analysis of the language of the patent documentation, which is very nuanced, and caveats encountered during the creation of patent application, during the grant procedure, or even after the patent was granted.
Is the Language of Science/Technology Manipulative?

This bachelor thesis aims to describe the manipulation of language in political discourse. In modern society, political speeches may be manipulated as they cover a vast amount of social issues. Therefore, this work investigates the importance of the control of public discourse that is crucial for the reproduction of manipulation in politics. It also attempts to discover the aims and means of manipulation. Finally, the analysis of manipulative strategies of Donald Trump serves as a tool for the successful identification of manipulation. The main aim of this work is to determine whether the language of politics is and how such manipulation manifests itself.
Technology and Society - Online Addictions

The aim of this work is to study the problems of online addiction. The work itself is divided into 3 parts: introduction, main article and conclusion. The introduction explains the global shifts in communications technology and their negative and positive effects. In the main part, I look at certain types of online addiction and ways to deal with them. In conclusion, I summarized thesis of cause and effect relationships of online addicted people.
Commented Translation – New Trends in Air Transportation as Presented in Media

The purpose of the semestral thesis is to translate a text or more texts related to new trends in air transportation as presented in media from Czech into English and analyze the differences between both languages in translation. The work presented is divided into three main parts: theoretical introduction, translation of the technical text and translation analysis. The theoretical introduction deals with the types of translation and classifications. In the last part, the language phenomena and characteristic features of the English and Czech languages are analyzed on the examples of the translated texts.
A corpus perspective on engineering terminology in popularization

This work focuses on the corpus-based approach on the study of technical terminology in popularisation. This is achieved by contrasting the popular contexts with the scientific and academic contexts a term appears in. This work also gives a brief introduction to the concept of corpus linguistics.
