Reflection of the Genocide of Czech Jews from 1945 until Present Times in the Light of as yet Unpublished Archive Documents (The Analysis of the National Stories of Holocaust Survivors Host Countries and Influence on Their Individual War Testimonies)
Roubínek, Jan ; Novotný, Lukáš (referee)
(in English): My goal is to demonstrate that witnesses of certain historical events can describe their experiences in a variety of ways without distorting actual facts. The subject of my research is a reflection of the Czech Jewry Genocide through the eyes of a generation born during the so-called first Czechoslovak Republic. On the day of their liberation, Czech Jews who had survived Shoah were mainly unified in the fundamental aspects of the perception of their past in Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camps, regardless of whether their native tongue was Czech or German. What's more, any ideological differences that could have possibly existed between them in pre-war years, ceased being important under the influence of a common fate. It is fair to say then, that from the viewpoint of Czech Shoah Survivors in 1945, they constituted a relatively unified group but not for much longer. After the end of WWII, these people returned to the newly established Czechoslovak Republic and the point of view within the groups gradually began to vary. For some, the new regime had fulfilled their expectations. The majority of Czech Jews however, chose to emigrate after the Communist Coup d'etat and in time began to share their war experiences. The Jews in the Czech Republic began telling their stories as well....
The issue of the German ethnic group status in inter-war Czechoslovakia shown in the Nejdek distric example
Andrš, Pavel ; Čechurová, Jana (advisor) ; Kvaček, Robert (referee) ; Novotný, Lukáš (referee)
The subject of this dissertation thesis is investigating the issue of the German ethnic group status in inter-war Czechoslovakia shown in the example of the Nejdek political district with the emphasis on the major and crucial aspects of social life - politics, economic and social issues while the assistance and support elements include: demographics, border issues, the presence of the Czech ethnic group, a preview of own (German) history and the development of churches and religion. The Nejdek political district is set within a framework of regional history with regard to the historical context of the development of Czechoslovakia, or even of the world in some cases. The regional history presented here in the form of a probe from the perspective of great historical events and partly through micro-history aim to build on the broad source base and capture the impacts and effects of national policies on shaping of the Nejdek region and its inhabitants. In some ways, when possible of course, research methods are applied. Overall, the work is to fill the so-called white gaps in the regional historiography, since the books or studies published so far have been focusing only on partial, closely regionally defined topics and only comprehensive work, which the author of this paper attempts, could therefore...
Synthesis and characterisation of flavonoids as potential anticancer agents
Novotný, Lukáš ; Pour, Milan (advisor) ; Kučerová, Marta (referee)
Charles University Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Inorganic and Organic Chemistry University of Limoges Faculty of Pharmacy Laboratory of Natural Substances Chemistry Consultants: prof. RNDr. Milan Pour, Ph.D., Dr. Christelle Pouget Student: Lukáš Novotný Title of Thesis: Synthesis and characterisation of flavonoids as potential anticancer agents With more than 3 million new cases and 1.7 million deaths each year, cancer represents the second most important cause of morbidity in Europe. Search for new anticancer agents is one of the most important ways to improve treatment and management of cancer. At present, around 50 % of drugs against cancer are natural compounds or have a natural origin. Flavonoids, 2- phenyl-1,4-benzopyrones derivatives, are known for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, vasculoprotective, antimicrobial and anticancer properties. This project focuses on flavonoids with open C ring, named chalcones. The synthesis of two original molecules is described: one bichalcone and a combined chalcone-polyamine, prepared for the purpose of screening antiproliferative effect on cancer cell lines. The chalcone derivatives were made using Claisen- Schmidt condensation and Suzuki reaction. Different synthetic approaches are discussed. Presently, the two products are...
Dissolution of the Law Faculty of the Masaryk University in Brno
Novotný, Lukáš ; Míšková, Alena (advisor) ; Hnilica, Jiří (referee)
This diploma thesis explores the dissolution of the Law Faculty of the Masaryk University in Brno, which took place after the 1949/1950 academic year. The cancellation of the faculty was finalized by the new Higher Education Act no. 58/1950 Coll., which was passed on May 18, 1950. The act also ruined all traditional academic freedoms in the Czechoslovakia. The Communists claimed that there is no need to have so many lawyers in the new socialistic country. Therefore the legal studies remained only in Prague and Bratislava. Several faculty members were dismissed from the Law Faculty of the Masaryk University right after the overturn in 1948 due to their activity during the previous regime. Those who remained could stay at the university only for two more years. However, after the cancellation of the faculty even those professors were not allowed to pursue their life mission. A majority of them ended up working in the Academy of Sciences. The Law Faculty of the Masaryk University remained cancelled for 19 years.
The Social Democratic Party of Germany 1998 - 2013: From Triumph to Crisis?
Schmiedová, Petra ; Kunštát, Miroslav (advisor) ; Novotný, Lukáš (referee)
This bachelor thesis analyses the federal election result of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in 2009, in which the party scored its lowest post-war result. The author tries to describe the factors which caused this electoral disaster. From its establishment the SPD went through a lot of changes, as did the whole society. From a party of workers, who fought for their extended rights, the SPD became a party defending three fundamental values - freedom, justice and solidarity - for everyone. However, in the 1980s the party was forced to abandon the Keynesian economic model, to which she owed her success in the field of economics. It was necessary for the party to adapt to new neoliberal economic theories. After 16 years in opposition the SPD achieved a triumph in federal elections in 1998, when Gerhard Schröder became the new chancellor. Schröder was known as a supporter of the so-called Third Way. Under his leadership 1998 - 2005 the SPD was directed towards the political middle ground in an attempt to reach as many votes as possible. However, new political direction led to a crisis in the party and to a cleaving of the party left. Since 2005 the party has been dealing with several strategic problems, to which no answers have yet been found. This manifests in decreasing polling...
Germany, France and Euro Crisis. Will Germany and France find a common solution? Convergences und divergences in the German-French crisis management
Audiová, Kristýna ; Mlsna, Petr (advisor) ; Novotný, Lukáš (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the topic German-French cooperation on crisis management in the eurozone. Germany and France, represented by chancellor Merkel and president Sarkozy, cooperated together very closely during the crisis and contributed significantly to the further deepening of European economic and monetary union. The aim of this thesis is to analyze and compare the features of the German and French European policy and the German and French ideas about the functioning of economic and monetary union. Secondly, to examine the progress of the German- French cooperation on finding crisis solutions. And finally to define convergence and divergence in the crisis management of both countries. Due to different ideas about economic policy - the German ordoliberalism and French concept called Gouvernance économique - both countries were forced to make mutual concessions. The most important compromises within the anti-crisis measures are the bailouts to indebted countries, European rescue funds or tightening budgetary discipline of European countries by using the fiscal pact. Nevertheless, there are still areas in which both countries disagree, primarily the Eurobonds and other measures to support economic growth. The last part is devoted to the question of German models implementation into the EU and the...
Security policy dimension of arms exports - the cases of the Helmut Kohl and the Gerhad Schröder governments 1989-2005
Kufčák, Jakub ; Handl, Vladimír (advisor) ; Novotný, Lukáš (referee)
This thesis addressed the arms export control in the Federal Republic of Germany during the tenure of chancellor Helmut Kohl and Gerhard Schröder between 1989 and 2005. To this end this thesis elaborated an analytical framework, which analyses this phenomenon thought government arms export policy. Due to lack of preceding research in this area it was necessary to devote significant space for conceptual definition of the arms export policy and contextualization of analytical framework. It was argued that arms export policy of the Federal Republic of Germany should be analyzed as a passive sub-category within security policy. Analytical framework employed to analyze the period between 1989 and 2005 thus reflected four factors or standpoints that exert influence on arms export policy (foreign pressures, security policy, European coordination and legislative and institutional framework). This thesis designed as disciplined interpretive case study posited two hypothesis based on concepts that have been partially applied to arms export phenomenon in different context and time period. First hypothesis concerns the nature of change of arms exports control, which was supposed to change between periods restriction and relaxation of export control. Second hypothesis postulates the nature of change of arms exports...
Within the limits of legality? NPD under constant threat of ban.
Žáček, Martin ; Konrád, Ota (advisor) ; Novotný, Lukáš (referee)
This study follows the development of the extreme right political party NPD or more precisely the development of all relevant events that led to the attempt to ban the party in 2001. Which factors contributed to make a decision to make a motion to ban the NPD? How did the trial look like and what consequences the decision of the Constitutional Court will have for the future? Answering these questions is the aim of this study. There were several factors that led to the trial in 2001. Firstly it was the very possibility of banning a political party and the whole concept of the militant democracy as it is anchored in the "German constitution" (Grundgesetz). The second factor was the historical transformation and the resulting radicalization of the NPD. The third and at the same time crucial factor was the relatively hectic political discussion in 2000. The trial in 2003 ultimately failed due to secret confidants. However the possibility of banning the NPD was not excluded. As a result of that, the NPD did not get rid of the threat of the ban.
The Attitude of Great Britain and Its Dominions on Constitutional Questions within the British Empire, 1917 - 1931
Valkoun, Jaroslav ; Kovář, Martin (advisor) ; Skřivan, Aleš (referee) ; Novotný, Lukáš (referee)
This thesis is focused on the analysis of constitutional relations between the mother country and its Dominions. The constitutional problems along with foreign and economic policy formed one of the most significant and interesting chapters in British imperial history. The thesis analysed the formation of the first Dominions, the question of the constitutional position of the Dominions, a gradual change of the then used imperial terminology (the term British Empire vs. the term Commonwealth), and a working of system of Colonial (Imperial) Conferences in connection with the significance of the second influential imperial institution - the Imperial Defence Committee. The thesis deals with establishment of the Imperial War Cabinet, and organising the Imperial War Conference. A constitutional resolution was adopted that once and for all rejected the vision of the federalisation of the Empire and launched post-war discussions on the modification of constitutional relations between individual autonomous countries of the Commonwealth, which culminated during the Imperial Conference of 1921. The circumstances and discussions that accompanied the Chanak Incident, the Lausanne Conference, the British- Japanese alliance, the Imperial Conference of 1923, the Geneva Protocol and the Locarno Pact, all were...
