Interactive narrative in the era of the digital storytelling
Kohutová, Radka ; Kraus, Jiří (advisor) ; Jirák, Jan (referee)
Stories are the cornerstone of common cultural understanding, creativity, and even socialisation and language. They surround us and stimulate us, entertain us, engage us, and even horrify us. We tell them every day and even participate in and create them just by living our lives and interacting with others. Being human simply means being part of a narrative on our journeys through life-right from infancy with the exposure to fairy-tales that afford us the chance to understand and decode our first stories along with language that introduces us to basic concepts like right and wrong. In fact, Tilley claims that "We are socialized through narrative forms, which offer stories to moderate behaviour ('Don't do that or...'), to develop language ('Mary, Mary, quite contrary...'), to engage the imagination ('Beware the wolf in the forest...') or to make us laugh ('This little piggy went to market...')." (Tilley, 1992: 53) Here is also where we are first introduced to the traditional structure and organizing principles behind the phenomenon of storytelling-narrative. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Modern lingual tendencies of czech music journalism
Morochovičová, Eliška ; Kraus, Jiří (advisor) ; Vedral, Jan (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the infiltration of modern tendencies into Czech music journalism. These tendencies represent a wholly new approach to the general standards of journalism, its language and stylistics. Young authors analyzed in this thesis prefer to take rather individualistic approach to music and its reflections. Based on the study of the New Journalism and gonzo journalism in American journalism and literature, and with the application of the general standards of Czech journalism I look into the particularities of those new tendencies, describe their development in various media and analyze the written language of a number of authors. In my thesis I concentrate on various music media dated from the 1990's until now. I analyze a couple of music magazines for interest groups, the modified forms of modern tendencies in music sections of the mass media and the contemporary form of individualistic journalism in music media on the Internet.
Wonderland behind the looking-glass and its touch
Brdička, Vojtěch ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Kraus, Jiří (referee)
This work is the structured indictment of mediality in us. It argues that media do not satisfy us, nor we are controlled by them. We are much rather satisfied and at the same time controlled by the mediality inside ourselves. Mediality phenomenon is postulated here in the spirit of Jean Baudrillard's theory, not as a mediator of the relations between people, but as their killer. The expansion of digital media doesn't bring us closer to others, but it separates others from us in time and space. The others are transmitted to us only in the form of selected mosaic of images. This alienation is the result of a desire for our own particular worlds, not the conspiracy of power. Efficiency, speed, focus on result and positive thinking are the values that define the orientation of media development. The result is not imitation, but perfection. That's why we use the media. It lures us by the promise of immortality, but in conclusion it only creates a lifeless sign from us. Every human desire is ambivalent, and the desire to create our own post-mortem images can become in its hypertrophy the fatal fulfilment of the death instinct.
