Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) in Engineering Courses at Brno University of Technology
Denysenko, Valeriia ; Langerová, Petra (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
The bachelor’s thesis aims to frame the content and language integrated learning (CLIL) concept and analyse some factors influencing the successful implementation of CLIL in engineering courses at Brno University of Technology. The theoretical part of the thesis discusses the advantages of CLIL, explains Coyle, Hood and Marsh’s CLIL framework, and describes different pedagogical models and strategies used to integrate CLIL into a curriculum. It also provides a survey of selected CLIL research studies which has shown that the use of CLIL at universities has a significant influence on learning a content-based subject through the medium of a foreign language. The practical part of the thesis deals with research focusing on the current situation of CLIL in engineering courses in the study programme English in Electrical Engineering and Informatics at Brno University of Technology. The results of the questionnaire survey among teachers and students are discussed, and possible improvements in CLIL lessons are considered.
Discourse analysis of language of tabloids
Gazdošová, Sára ; Walek, Agata (oponent) ; Langerová, Petra (vedoucí práce)
In this thesis, various levels of language analysis are described. Lexical, grammatical, and stylistic levels as well as aspects of language such as cohesion, coherence and context are included. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first, theoretical part, provides an overview of more general information concerning discourse analysis, mainly theoretical information with examples. The provided information is useful when analysing the language of tabloids themselves later. An insight into mass media’s history and its types is present. The second, practical part of the thesis, analyses the language of the online versions of tabloid newspapers Daily Mail and The Sun. Their appearance and layout are briefly described. Chosen aspects of each language analysis level are shown and explained on examples from the mentioned newspapers.
Robots of the present and the future
Rehák, Jozef ; Langerová, Petra (oponent) ; Jašková, Jana (vedoucí práce)
This semestral thesis is concentrated on the topic of robots of the present and the future. The objective of the thesis is to introduce robots to a reader and theoretically describe the state of robots today and predictions for the future of robotics. At the beginning of the work is a brief description of the history of robots and explains the name they were given. Subsequently, the current state of robotics is described, and the robots are divided into groups that best suit their abilities. Moreover, predictions of the future of robotics are discussed together with the technological singularity. In addition, these discussed predictions show the potential of robotics to become part of the very existence of humans by becoming cyborgs or by digitizing their mind and uploading it to the cloud. In this way, the possibility of immortality or at least prolongation of life is presented. Lastly, there is possibly the first example of a product of the future, which will be mass-produced.
Integrace nabíjecí stanice do energetického systému rodinného domu s FVE
Smart Clothing Technology and Application
Popek, Dan ; Langerová, Petra (oponent) ; Ellederová, Eva (vedoucí práce)
The main goal of this bachelor thesis is to acquaint the reader with the issue of smart clothes and frame their concept. The thesis provides a brief historical survey to build a background for smart clothes including a few illustrative examples. The author classifies smart clothes according to their integration into garments, the position regarding the human body and he lists the groups into which smart clothes can be further divided. Next, he deals with the design of smart clothes, which depends on the end users’ requirements. He also describes the possible construction of smart clothes, discusses the communication architecture, which considers a smart garment as a system with an emphasis on the communication facet, and the importance of a layering system for smart clothes.
Ambiguity, Vagueness, Fuzziness in Technical/Scientific Texts
Šafránek, Dominik ; Langerová, Petra (oponent) ; Walek, Agata (vedoucí práce)
Ambiguity, vagueness and fuzziness are essential tools of our language. Many papers have been published on this topic, but there still are difficulties with distinction between these cases. In this paper, I will give you definitions of these terms, and demonstrate them on examples, as well as provide syntactic tests to distinguish them. Fuzziness differs from ambiguity and vagueness, as it does not imply two or more meanings, but it has no clear-cut referential boundary, and cannot be resolved by giving a context, i.e. by clarifying the intended meaning. On the other hand, ambiguous expressions differ from vague expressions in that, they have two or more meanings that are not semantically related, but the vague expressions imply two or more meanings whose senses are closely – semantically – related. Ambiguity and vagueness both can be contextually resolved, i.e. unintended meanings can be eliminated. Although ambiguity, vagueness and fuzziness imply uncertainty in our language, they are used in scientific and technical texts. I will show you a part of a scientific research on ‘Inhibitory effects of different hand sanitizers against the resident microflora of skin’ and analyse the text, looking for ambiguous, vague or fuzzy expressions and their interference in the context and I will suggest solutions to reduce or avoid uncertainty in the text.

Kubíčková, Klára ; Zmrzlá, Petra (oponent) ; Langerová, Petra (vedoucí práce)
The Bachelor’s thesis deals primarily with the use of 3D printing by a public which is not acquainted with the technology. The work is divided into two main parts – the first mentioning the theory and the second part proposing practical activities. In the first part, the terminology in connection with 3D printing is defined, the process of 3D printing is determined, and the historical evolution of 3D printing processes is outlined. Except for the 3D printing itself, the process of 3D printable model creation, as well as, the possibilities in the use of 3D printers are described in the first part of the thesis. Additionally, 3D printing pens are depicted. In the second part, the practical part, specific activities for children with the use of 3D printing pens or 3D modelling programs are proposed. All of the activities contain expected time duration, age group and the main objective.
