Data journalism aimed by Datablog IHNED.cz

Now when information is abundant, practice of Data Journalism is quickly becoming a core technique of the 21st century newsrooms. The diploma thesis "Data Journalism aimed by Datablog IHNED.cz" is focused on introducing Data Journalism as a genre responding to the changes in the society and the technology development. The theoretical part concerns with the history of the subject, the workflow of Data Journalism in the newsrooms and the limitations; such as inappropriate business models, difficult process of collecting data or the lack of training. The main goal of the research is to map the work of the Czech data team in the IHNED.cz and compare the results with the work of teams in Australia. The research methods are combination of quantitative and qualitative analyses. The main source of information are interviews conducted with data journalists from the Czech Republic and Australia. On top of that the research gives deeper understanding of how the integration of data journalists in the newsrooms affect the way journalism can support the existence of media organizations and contribute to the public good. The last part offers predictions of the future of Data Journalism.
The development of czech sport's photojournalism from the middle of 20th century

The paper deals with the development of the Czech journalistic sport photography from mid 20th century until recent time. Conditions that influenced the work of sports photographers are mapped, whether it was technical equipment, political constraints or other relevant facts. The paper mentions key events that have had importance in the Czech sports photography. The very beginnings of the Czech sports photography are described, too, to add context with the period followed. Furthermore, some noteworthy cases are mentioned, such as career change of a professional sportsman to a sport photographer. Ethically doubtful practices, once quite frequent, are followed, too. Another infrequently studied area of interest is discussed, which is the phenomenon of successful pictures of neglected events. The paper also provides the reader with a list of the foremost Czech sports photographers, a quantitative analysis of sport photos in the Rude Pravo daily (name later changed to Pravo). Main moments of change are studied from the point of view of the extent of the sport photography on the pages of Czech dailies. Media image of the Workers Party during Janov events on the pages of Mlada Fronta DNES and Lidove Noviny

Diploma thesis "Media Image of the Workers Party During Janov Events on the Pages of Mlada fronta Dnes and Lidove noviny" deals with the manner how two chosen Czech newspapers referred about the commotions in Janov, which is a part of Litvinov, Northern Bohemia. In autumn 2008 members and supporters of ultra-right Delnicka strana (the Workers Party) clashed with police and local Romany after they tried to break through to the Janov housing estate. According to them, their aim was to support and protect the local non-Romany inhabitants. The methods of the thesis are quantitative and qualitative analysis of the media content. Thanks to them it is able to compare the amount of space which two chosen newspapers used to refer about these events and if their news were balanced and in which manners did they differ. There is also a theoretical part, in which a development and rise of Czech rightwing extremism after the Velvet revolution is described and summed up, focusing on the political parties who represented the Nazis in the 1990s and now - the SPR-RSC (Republicans) and Delnicka strana.
Visual aspect of local election campaigns in 2010

This bachelor thesis is titled Visual aspect of local election campaigns in 2010 and it concerns the visual aspect of election campaigns before elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in 2010. Text is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part introduces concept of the complex communicate and his specifics, describes cooperation between image and text, concerns photography as a mean of political advertising communication, manipulation, retouch, objectivity and perception of photographs. The practical part describes the visual aspect of election campaigns of five political parties: Czech Social Democratic Party, Civic Democratic Party, TOP 09, Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia and Public Affairs. These political parties gained more than five percent of electoral votes and therefore they have their representatives in the Chamber of Deputies. Campaigns took place in spring 2010. Thesis focuses mainly on the outdoor advertisement like billboards, citylights, posters and leaflets. Visual representation of migrant crisis in Czech online media

The diploma thesis is focused on the European refugee crisis and its visual representation in czech online media. The first part of the thesis introduces causes, development and wider context of the crisis, focusing on its reflection in czech society. In addition, the thesis analyzes issues of media representation and defines main theories covering the issue. The thesis also describes other concepts of media studies, such as stereotyping or agenda setting. Moreover, it explains the principles of framing and gatekeeping in the media. All mentioned theories are applied on the field of visual communication. On top of that, the thesis focuses on the importance of photojournalism in the production of news content, defines its essence and changes which occurred after the adaptation of the digital technologies in the media. The next part of the thesis provides information about editorial routines associated with the production of photographic materials in the media and the organizational specifics of the work. The analytical part of the thesis subsequently provides an image content analysis of the czech news websites iDNES.cz and Blesk.cz. Comparison of Motivation of Instagram and Polaroid Users

The diploma thesis deals with the motivation of users of Polaroid and Instagram, under the assumption that both media have nearly immediate result and may have a very similar visual stylization. The theoretical part of this thesis is devoted to a brief summary of the history of photography and philosophical opinions on that topic. It introduces Polaroid and Instagram and outlines the possible motivations of their users, using both the scientific literature, as well as personal blogs, articles and interviews. The practical part of the thesis describes the design and process of the original research, which consists of a standardized questionnaire, and its results. With its help we confirm or disprove our hypothesis.
Visual representation of Africa in Magazine Tyden and Rexlex

The diploma thesis "Visual representation of Africa in magazine Týden and Reflex " deals with visual representation of African continent. Africa does not appear in Czech printed media very often although the readers are interested in this topic. We live in the time that is intensively influenced by visual perception on human being. Photography is the medium capable of emotively showing the everyday life in Africa. This is the reason why this diploma thesis analyses the visual images (the photographs) with African themes which were printed in the magazines Týden and Reflex in 2005 and 2009. The main part of thesis is an analysis of the photographs describing the way how these magazines represent life in Africa. As a method of work I have chosen quantitative content analysis of photographs printed in magazines Týden and Reflex in 2005 and 2009. The theoretical framework of this thesis is summarized in the first three chapters. The first chapter deals with classifyig Africa . The second chapter is devoted to the photographic image in the world today and the history of depicting Africa by Czech photographers.
