Psychological aspects of negotiation
Mertin, Tomáš ; Bahbouh, Radvan (advisor) ; Boukalová, Hedvika (referee)
The theoretical part of the paper presents key topics of negotiation research - definition issues, phases of negotiation, distributive and integrative negotiation, negotiation - related variables (personal, emotional-motivational, cognitive, and interpersonal) and finally methods and approaches of studying negotiation. The empirical part of the paper consists of two related studies. The first part maps relations between variables in model negotiation. It pilots two tools - the Individualistic Orientation Inventory (IOI) and the Subjective Value Inventory (SVI - new Czech version). The second part uses 30-second segments of mute video recording from the beginning of the model negotiations in the first part of study. Naive judges then evaluate these thin slices of communication and guess the result (agreement/disagreement). The naive judges are found to predict the future results on a significant level. The effect of additional information on nonverbal communication and negotiation was proven to increase effect of the ability of intuitive judgment.

The thesis deals with personality research in sport. The general aim of thesis was to prove coherence between personal trait and particular sport activity. Being specific we have tried to discover, whether the choice of sport activity has coherence with personal trait. The aim group was consisted of students of Faculty of Physical Education and Sport at Charles University in Prague. Those students were specialists at swimming, football, gym and athletics. This group of student was compared with control group of students who are do not attend sports actively. Generally, 179 informants took participate in this correlation research. As a research method was used a personality test 4Elements Inventory and the Questionnaire of sport actitvites. The results proved a statistically important coherence between particular sport specialization and the elements Fire and Water. There was no proof of coherence between particular sport specialization and any of Elements. We found coherence in a frequence of sport activity and Fire element. The examined group differes from population in Fire and Earth element. The thesis also includes enumeration and conjuctions of those sport activities that our informants attend to. Adaptation of military pilots of supersonic aircrafts on stress workload
Kloudová, Gabriela ; Bahbouh, Radvan (advisor) ; Štětovská, Iva (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with impact of stress on performance of military pilots of supersonic aircrafts. The theoretical part is based on definition of the term stress, his relating theories, the strategies of coping with stress and possible methods of objectivization of mental workload. This part also provides an overview of stress occuring during flight activity and specifics of the job of military pilot. The research is based on theoretical models and previous researches and the aim is to analyze the hypothesis about the dependence of stress on performance of the military pilot. This correlation was empirically verified by experimental study conducted in tactical flight simulator designed for a training on supersonic airplanes. The mental workload was investigated by physiological data and psychological questionnaires. The results are showing the most stressful and most difficult situations that appeared during tactical combat mission. There was a significant correlation between personality, resting heart rate and the effectivity of the performance. Key words: Stress, Military pilots, Performance, Mental workload, Heart rate
Egon Brunswik and contemporary psychology (from probabilistic functionalism to judgement under uncertainty)
Salih, Osman ; Bahbouh, Radvan (advisor) ; Kebza, Vladimír (referee)
This thesis is about the influence of the theory and thoughts of Egon Brunswik (1903- 1955) in contemporary psychology. The introduction of this work is important for a deliberation of his central ideas as they apply to probability in the history of man. By looking at this background, we can obtain a deeper understanding of the criticism of modern theories of judgment under uncertainty proposed by Kahneman and Tversky created by Brunswikian followers. The proposal of representative research design, the formation of the lens model, and the notion of ecological validity of cues and vicarious functioning are Brunswik's biggest contributions in psychology. With regard to the origin of this thesis, I was delighted to find information about the attempt to replicate Brunswik's experiments with perceptual constancy by a member of the Prague Psychology Department, Jaromir Kasparek, PhD, in the 1950's. Brunswik was a real inspiration for a number of contemporary psychological and other theories, from Hammond's theory of social judgment and the theory of cognitive continuum to Funder's innovative approach in personality judgment and the theory of probabilistic mental models and fast and frugal heuristics of G. Gigerenzer and the multiple cue learning theory.

Zvěřinová, Kristýna ; Höschlová, Eva (advisor) ; Bahbouh, Radvan (referee)

In the theoretical part, the thesis is devoted to measuring the effectiveness of coaching interventions, with a focus on finding connections with the concepts of self-efficacy, engagement and personality traits. The empirical part describes a quasi-experimental research verifying the assumption, that coaching had a significant impact on all monitored independent variables. The experimental group consisted of store managers of unnamed retail company, which were divided into experimental and control group. The experimental group attended six coaching sessions over six months, focusing on any topic related to their work life. The control group did not attend any coaching session. Both groups were tested at the beginning of the coaching program and afterwards. Respondents completed three questionnaires - General Self-Efficacy Scale, Gallup Q12 questionnaire for engagement and NEO five-factor personality inventory. Based on the collected data and statistical analysis, a statistically significant difference was found between the pretest and posttest...
The connection between chosen personal characteristics and health
Mikulová, Hana ; Bahbouh, Radvan (advisor) ; Šípek, Jiří (referee)
This work focuses on summarizing suspected and proven links between personality traits and health. First we recapitulate various theories linking personality traits and health - Type A personality, optimism, pessimism, five-factor model of personality, self-esteem, self-efficacy and more. Next we concentrate on the perception of this connection with doctors through interviews on the topic of "personality and health" in the empirical part. In the empirical part semi-structured interviews with doctors on the topic of "personality and health" were used to observe how doctors themselves percieve this connection. The aim is to find out where the doctors find that connection while working with their patients and how they use it in their medical practice. Keywords: personality, health, disease, medical practice

Janečková, Barbora ; Bahbouh, Radvan (advisor) ; Břicháček, Václav (referee) ; Hájek, Karel (referee)
The doctoral dissertation contains of a definition of spiritual emergency, differential diagnosis, description of kinds of spiritual emergency. It looks on the therapeutical possibilities in working with these states. Part of the dissertation is analysis of semistructured interviews with clients and therapists who work with these kinds of problems. In the analysis of the interviews with therapists I center on their experience with the dynamics of spiritual emergence, its manifestation and possible existence of similar traits of clients with this diagnosis. Important parts of the interviews are the most effective ways of working with these clients. I was also interested in their own perception on how spiritual emergence occurs and on the possible change in the quality of life of the client after this episode. In the analysis of the interviews with the clients I question when spiritual emergence occurred, how it started, how long did it last and what were the reactions from outside. Important part is centered on the interventions which the client experienced and their efficiency. Case studies demonstrate typical traits described at spiritual emergency, as quite dramatic beginning, complete recovery and also an important change in value system.
