Detention and its role in international migration of foreigners in the Czech Republic
Kubát, Jan ; Drbohlav, Dušan (advisor) ; Janská, Eva (referee)
Detention and its role in international migration of foreigners in the Czech Republic Aims of thesis are evaluation of detention, its influence and role in migration processes of foreigners in Czech Republic, as a restrictive action against irregular migration which is applied within common homecoming politics of EU countries, followed by analysis of conditions and informal structures which are related to irregular migration issues in Czech Republic. Individual aims are accomplished in two steps. At first is discussed present knowledge of detention, its part in migration processes, and theoretical definition of irregular migration's and detention's issues. In theoretical section of diploma project is considered mainly the detention's function in migration process from the point of view of migration concepts, negative impact of irregular migration, smuggling and trafficking, client system, EU migration politics' approach to irregular migration, migration politics' restrictive instrument and measures leading to criminalization, securitization and extraterritoriality of irregular migration, law regulation of detention and its application within detention facilities in Czech republic. The second step comprises survey aiming on detention's function and influence in migration processes of 42 foreigners...
Query by Pictorial Example
Vácha, Pavel ; Haindl, Michal (advisor) ; Drbohlav, Ondřej (referee) ; Geusebroek, Jan-Mark (referee)
Ongoing expansion of digital images requires new methods for sorting, browsing, and sear- ching through huge image databases. This is a domain of Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) systems, which are database search engines for images. A user typically submit a query image or series of images and the CBIR system tries to find and to retrieve the most similar images from the database. Optimally, the retrieved images should not be sensitive to circumstances during their acquisition. Unfortunately, the appearance of natural objects and materials is highly illumination and viewpoint dependent. This work focuses on representation and retrieval of homogeneous images, called textu- res, under the circumstances with variable illumination and texture rotation. We propose a novel illumination invariant textural features based on Markovian modelling of spatial tex- ture relations. The texture is modelled by Causal Autoregressive Random field (CAR) or Gaussian Markov Random Field (GMRF) models, which allow a very efficient estimation of its parameters, without the demanding Monte Carlo minimisation. Subsequently, the estimated model parameters are transformed into the new illumination invariants, which represent the texture. We derived that our textural representation is invariant to changes of illumination intensity and...
Migration policy of Czech republic and Great Britain, with a view to a labour-migration
Bártková, Vendula ; Schroth, Jan (referee) ; Drbohlav, Dušan (advisor)
This diploma paper deals with the migration problemacy and it primarily focuses on one of the most important elements, which affect migration - i.e. migration policy. We may polemize about the actual influence of migration policies on the final size and structure of migration flows, about the effectivity in fulfilling of their objectives; however we must agree on the fact, that migration policies represent an important factor, which affects migration movements. In this work we therefor aim to explain how migration policy arises, what influences its formation and shape and what kind of instruments we may subsequently use to value its fruitfulness. Seeing that in current time the labourmigration is the most common type of the total migration, we focused on the actual situation in the labour-migration policy and we were trying to find out which kind of instruments are used in this area as well as what types of programmes are offered. We pay attention to this problemacy not just from the view of Czech republic, but furthermore from the position of Great Britain, because we presume, that because of its history Britain has multiyear experience in this area, so thus it can be a great source of inspiration for Czech republic. Armed Conflict in India - geographical aspects and factors
Drbohlav, Jan ; Tomeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Havlíček, Tomáš (referee)
Armed conflicts in India - geographical aspects and factors This thesis is focused on the geographical aspects and factors of armed conflicts in India. The main aim is to describe a typology of these particular conflicts in India after the country gained independence in 1947. It also deals with the characteristics of their cause and spread. The author also stresses the historical influence and cultural heritage of the longstanding British colonial supremacy in India. Other aspects are also studied, such as the great cultural heterogeneity of the Indian population, in terms of religion, ethnic, linguistic and social-economic differences among Indian regions. The first chapter deals with historical conflicts related to specific conditions of the forming of the new state on an unstable Indian subcontinent. These conflicts are also related to the consolidation of Indian territory after gaining independence, to the administrative development of India and international relations with the surrounding states. The second and more extensive part focuses on current armed conflicts, that are divided in four basic cathegories - separationist movement in the federate state of Jammu and Kashmir; separationist and religious movement in North-east India; terrorism supported by maoist ideology in tropical rain...
Study of Reversible Adsorption of Nucleic Acids on Solid Surfaces
Trachtová, Štěpánka ; Zendulková,, Dagmar (referee) ; Drbohlav,, Jan (referee) ; Rittich, Bohuslav (advisor)
Magnetically driven separation techniques using magnetic solid carriers are one of modern methods to speed up and facilitate the previously used separation and purification procedures. The use of magnetic particles in biology imposes strict requirements on physical, and chemical properties of the particles, including low toxicity, biocompatibility and non-interference with the chemical environment in diagnostics. The aim of this study was to evaluate carboxyl-functionalised magnetic non-porous P(HEMA-co-GMA), P(HEMA-co-EDMA), PGMA, silica-coated lanthanum manganese peroskvite La0.75Sr0.25MnO3 and thermosensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) microspheres – P(NIPAAm) for DNA isolation from different types of complex food and environmental samples containing PCR inhibitors. The solid-phase reversible immobilisation (SPRI) of nucleid acids on microsphere surface and the release of adsorbed DNA were optimised. DNA from real samples (milk products and probiotic food suplements, mouse faeces) was apparently adsorbed on solid particles from the aqueous phase system composed of 16% PEG 6000 and 2M NaCl. The conditions of the subsequent release absorbed DNA to the elution buffer (pH of elution buffer, temperature and time of elution) were optimized. The quality of eluted DNA and the presence of target DNA were examined by PCR and q-PCR using domain-specific Bacteria and genus-specific Lactobacillus primer set. Real-time PCR was used for an estimation of the PCR interference by comparing the amplification efficiencies of purified DNA containing solid nanoparticles with the DNA standards free of any nanoparticles

International Dimension of Immigration Policy
Novotná, Markéta ; Veselý, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Eichler, Jan (referee) ; Vlček, Dalibor (referee) ; Drbohlav, Dušan (referee)
The relation between the immigration policies and state sovereignty in the European Union (EU) is both a most topical and controversial issue. The dissertation is conceived as a disciplinary interpretative study based on the concept of four types of sovereignty by S. Krasner. This approach allows to interpret the seeming contradiction between a state perceived as a sole actor in the area of immigration policy and the communitarization of the immigration policy at the EU level. By using the analysis of discourse as well as of practice, this thesis acknowledges shifts of power to the EU, but stresses that these shifts represent strengthening of other factors of power and control at the same time. Thus, in certain, particularly security, aspects, European harmonization of immigration policy can reinforce state sovereignty. It applies to the external as well as internal dimensions of the EU immigration policy that a part of the policy remains to be decided at the national level. Nevertheless, also the communitarized area offers the member states a significant room for discretion. Thus, there is still considerable tension between the idea of solidarity between member states on one hand and their national interests on the other and the common European immigration policy remains to be achieved in future.
