Photo galleries and video journalism in Czech online media

This thesis deals with means of online journalism, specifically photogalleries and videojournalism. Theoretical part of the work is devoted to the phenomena of digitization and media convergence that significantly influenced journalistic work, including photography and video. In practical part, the author uses four case studies to examine how Czech online media work with image material and how they use means of videojournalism. This work maps use of galleries and video in four domestic media: iDNES.cz, ihned.cz, Aktuálně.cz and Echo24.cz. The author describes hierarchy in individual editorial staffs and user interface of the photogalleries and videoplayers. In addition, the author charts the presence of photogalleries and videos in the concrete server over a period of one week. The work is based on scientific literature and interviews with photographers, editors and reporters of selected media. Other information sources are the actual websites. The work is supplemented by visual attachments and transcriptions of the interviews.
Cyberbullying and its correlation with gender

This thesis deals with the issue of cyberbullying and it examines the differences in its perception depending on gender. In the beginning the thesis describes transformation of communication based upon time and technologies used to communicate. It is followed by the comparison of cyberbullying and bullying where similarities and differences are shown. After this theoretical part comes the practical part of the thesis which is started by the justification of the chosen research method - qualitative research, individual interviews with grammar school children in the age 10 to 15 years. The following part describes the construction of the research - creating the scenario of the interviews followed by the description of the interviews which were afterward transcribed and analyzed. The interviews were analyzed by open coding and showed that there are differences regarding cyberbullying and gender but they also showed that there are similarities in the usage of communication media. The results proved that in the selected sample of children girls are more likely to take part in cyberbullying than in bullying. The credibility of news in the world of data journalism

The term crisis of journalism is widely discussed nowadays. This paper examines whether journalism is in crisis, or whether it is a development caused by changes in the digital world. It also examines possible causes of this crisis and transformation in the digital world. One of the main causes of this is a perceived loss of credibility of the information given to the public. Therefore, there is a deeper interpretation of what trust and trustworthiness is and what can dis/trust cause in the society. In the context of the changes which journalism faces today, it describes the transformation of the role of the audience to active self-editor and outlines how the audience must orientate in the news itself. Otherwise, the media focused on earnings will continue to thrive on sensationalism and moral panics that will negatively effect social reality. In the empirical part this paper deals with the case of Břeclav in 2012, which is an exemplary example of moral panic with consequences.
MediaGuru.cz news site and its reporting on printed journals causes in 2013

Every day, MediaGuru.cz news site brings its readers the latest pieces of information about media, marketing and advertising. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to introduce this medium and analyse its functioning in 2013. Specifically, it deals with the agenda of printed journals, especially it focuses on the space dedicated to this topic. Analysis is performed in the three specified categories - topics related to print journalism (readership, copies sold, the new/cancelled titles, ownership changes, personnel changes, content changes and advertising), different styles of the articles (neutral, evaluating, positive, negative and adapted) and genres of the articles (news, news with quotation, interview, analysis and list of top x). Articles from Print section released in 2013 are classified into individual categories and pursuant to achieved data and interview with editor in chief Martina Vojtěchovská, the bachelor thesis brings more information about news site MediaGuru.cz and its functioning.
The influence of electronic distribution of periodicals on print journalism

The bachelor thesis named The influence of electronic distribution of periodicals on print journalism deals with the specifics of electronic distribution, its position among other new media and its relation towards traditional media. This document focuses mainly on the question whether electronic distribution while combining principles of both internet and print journalism can influence the future of print media - its form or even existence. Other hypothesis presented by this document inspects the possibility of utilizing an electronic periodical for saving an unprofitable print version of given periodical - film monthly Svět filmu is used as an example. Both principles of electronic distribution and Svět filmu functioning are being inquired with support of depth interviews with major Czech electronic distribution services representatives and Svět filmu representatives respectively. In addition this work offers a overview of Czech electronic distribution services and examples of digital periodicals. In order to provide complete context a brief description of situation of electronic distribution in other countries is included and listed hypotheses are supplemented by interviews-based prognostic speculations concerning electronic distribution's future and impact on print distribution.
Ethical aspects of interaction: Qualitative Study of Reception of Computer Game Mass Effect 2 as a System of Moral Decisions

This thesis is focused on ethical aspects of interaction between players and virtual computer game worlds, specifically on reception of situations where player faces possibility or necessity to make a moral choice that influences the future development of the game. The goal of this thesis is to find out how seriously players approach these decisions, whether they take their impact on the game world into account, what criteria they apply when deciding and what other influences affect their decisions. Another related theme is identification with the game avatar and its influence on moral decisions. This work is based on qualitative research realized with a group of five players of computer game Mass Effect 2. During the research they answered questions regarding their decisions in particular situations as well as their general approach to decisions in the game. The research is based on recent works on the related topics of game studies. Outcomes of the research are analysed by the grounded theory method. Using its procedures the answers are decomposed into basic concepts which are then put together again in mutual context. As a conclusion of the thesis the grounded theory formulated based on these analytical procedures is presented. Future thematically related research areas are also suggested.
Development of the Czech mobile communications magazines market

The bachelor work deals with magazines on mobile communications that were published in the Czech Republic between 1996-2011. This bachelor work focuses on 8 unique titles published during that period. The first part is devoted to the development of the telecommunication market as well as the mobile phone market. One of the important parts involves a description of the published titles. The magazine called Mobility was the longest-published magazine on mobile communication and therefore, it is discussed in more details and in addition quantitative content analysis is also provided in this study. Other titles are briefly introduced. For all magazines the additional information such as year of publishing, publisher's name and sample of cover page is provided. The development of the market for mobile communication is described in three time periods. These periods are as follows: from 1996 to 2003 when only two titles were published, from 2004 to 2008 when all monitored titles were published, from 2008 to 2011 when only magazine Mobility was published. The final section deals with the development of printed and online media and compares the readership and audience size of these two platforms. Trailer-targeting a potential audience

How can movie production companies speak to their potential audience thru movie trailers? Which means do they use and what is the public reception? How does a viewer interpret a movie trailer? What can we learn about viewers from movie trailers? This thesis is offering all the answers to questions mentioned above in two different parts - in the first part the concepts of movie trailers are introduced and explained, the second part analyses the outcomes of a research which studies the affects of movie trailers on potential audience. Collected data through quantitative methods of two uniform groups on the topic of movie trailers were studied by focus groups. This thesis focuses on understanding the approach of viewers on movie trailers and is trying to clarify when the movie trailers can act as a decision maker in order to change the approach and behavior of the audience. Thesis aims to offer a broader overview to the relationship between movie trailers and viewers and propose a guide how to read audiovisual works critically. Relation of political activism and journalism in the reflection of the leading Belarusian and Polish newspapers

Resumé In the modern world, the media has become a part of the political system of each state. Print media have the ability to influence public opinion in different ways of manipulating with information. The media, as it turns out, is not only the servant for broader swath of the population, but also for different social groups and individual, which are often seeking for the greater political influence. The media activity brings serious socio-political and public implications, because the nature of the information directing at the public specifies the relationship to reality and forces the public to certain decisions, which could affect the social level of the individual, then the whole state. Models, by which the editorial teams of newspapers Gazeta Wyborcza and Savieckaja Belarussija are leaded, are in many ways contradictory. In Belarus, as well as in the countries of the former USSR still remain preacher, agitator and propagandist for major political force. History of the Production and Context of Adventure Computer Games in the Czech Republic

The thesis deals with the historical development of computer adventure games in the Czech Republic. It focuses on the period that started in 1994 with the production of the first commercial PC game Tajemství Oslího ostrova (The Secret of Donkey Island), and ended in 1998. It also touches an earlier period and factors that influenced the production of the adventure genre in the nineties. Researched titles belong to the genre of 2D point-and-click adventure. The paper brings the analysis of the games according to the theories of game studies, context of their production, information about their producers and analysis of the feedback in the press that focused on computer games. The thesis tries to identify the common features of the first commercial PC games thanks to which the games became very popular in the nineties and also describes the obstacles that the first producers had to overcome in the post socialistic country. At nearly twenty titles the paper tries to reveal the new elements that showed in the historical development of the adventure games and also to describe the differences among monitored titles.
