Role of skin stem cells in aging and regeneration
Hlaváčková, Tereza ; Nešporová, Kristina (advisor) ; Procházka, Jan (referee)
Skin is a natural and effective barrier of the body against the adverse effects of the external environment. Which, however, requires its constant regeneration and, in the event of damage, repair. Stem cells stored in the epidermis, hair follicles and dermis contribute to this. As with other stem cells, these are characterized by so-called stemness, ie the ability to self-renew and differentiate into other cell types, thus providing a source of cells for skin renewal. During aging, due to internal and external factors (mainly due to oxidative stress and DNA damage), the integrity and functionality of the skin barrier are lost. This process is related, among other things, to a reduction in the number and function of skin stem cells. Today several therapeutic approaches are being developed that use stem cells, but at the same time, it is clear that their origin also significantly affects their use. Therefore is necessary to have a good understanding of the specific properties of the function of skin stem cells to modulate the properties of the skin. This work aims to create a review of scientific literature, which covers the topic of skin stem cells, their role in the processes of regeneration and repair and their role in aging. The work will also address the issue of the skin or other types of stem...
Czech community in Australia in transnational perspective
Hlaváčková, Tereza ; Šatava, Leoš (advisor) ; Jakoubek, Marek (referee)
This study deals with Czech speakers in Australia, focusing on their use of the Czech and English languages as tools of belonging to a community. Its aim is to discuss the situation of Czech speakers on the continent from the perspective of a small Czech language in an English-speaking country. The starting point for the study is scientific publications on bilingualism, multilingualism and transnationalism issued in the Czech and English-speaking environments. Another source is books about the history of the immigration and language policies in Australia and about the Australian identity. Finally, the methods involve field research based on participant observation of groups of Czechs in social networks and during Czech church services in Sydney in November 2015. Fieldwork is also based on semi-structured interviews which took place in Australia between August 2014 and January 2016. They were intended to study the reality of Czech speakers in Australia and to illustrate the theories on the use of language by bilingual speakers in the Australian context. The first part of this study gives the theoretical background to the notions of transnationalism, belonging to a group, bilingualism and changes in language use. The second part focuses on language and immigration policies of the states of Australia...
Effect of deep foot massage on postural stability in patients with spinocerebellar ataxia
Hlaváčková, Tereza ; Pospíšilová, Mariana (advisor) ; Čech, Zdeněk (referee)
Introduction: Spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) is currently defined as a group of diseases with progressive cerebellar syndrome, which manifests distinctively by ataxic stance and gait. In patients with SCA, deterioration of postural control occurs due to changes of pathophysiological degenerative nervous system. Control of postural stability is significantly influenced by somatosensory afferentation of soft tissue of foot. The work objective is to determine the effect of deep foot massage on postural stability in the group of patients and to compare obtained results with experiments without deep foot massage. Methods: Seven patients of the Clinic Rehabilitation at the Faculty Hospital, Prague Motol (average age 51.9 ± 13.9 years, 5 men, and 2 women) with SCA and clinical signs of cerebellar ataxia were participated in this study. All patients were examined using posturography before and after application of deep foot massage. Measurements were conducted on a firm surface, foam pad with open and closed eyes. Length of COP trajectory, COP area and COP velocity were measured. Results: Significantly lower values of the length and COP velocity were found on the foam pad with closed eyes, when the deep foot massage was applied. Experiments without applications of the deep foot massage did not show any...
