Current trends in teaching listening
Vognarová, Jana ; Gráf, Tomáš (advisor) ; Quinn Novotná, Veronika (referee)
The present thesis is concerned with the current trends in teaching listening as they have been presented through a number of articles in various journals and mainly in the book by John Field: Listening in the Language Classroom who urges for a process approach, and ascertaining if these new methodological recommendations are finding their way into the classroom practice nowadays through an analysis of a number of frequently used language textbooks. The approach to teaching listening has been developing as a part of many methods used for teaching foreign languages over the years and it has gone from a completely omitted skill through a position of a rather neglected one up to its today status of causing major problems to students who complain that the speakers on the recordings speak too fast or that they cannot understand every single word. It is often the case that students manage to master listening in the confines of the language classroom, learn to cope with typical textbook listening exercises and understand their teachers and classmates, but when confronted with real-life listening outside the classroom, they frequently run into a kind of glasswall and are simply not able to deal with it. The analytical part is based on the analysis of the listening exercises in the very first and newest...
The issue of constructions on the land of another
Novotná, Veronika ; Drobník, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Franková, Martina (referee)
Diploma thesis deals with the issue of constructions on the land of another. At first the thesis focuses on definition of basic terms, i.e. the construction and the building plot. In the following text is concerned about permission to build. Attention is focused on three types of titles of use - lease, easement and of peripheral importance, loan of land, which is not given a full explanation, but only focusing on issues related to the topic of work. To the previous issues link two institutes which deal with third and fourth chapter - authorized and unauthorized construction. Authorized construction is current problem in the future and therefore it is very noticeable lack of explicit rules that must be compensated for general rules of unjust enrichment. The chapter on unauthorized construction is divided into sections according to the character of each "type", i.e. whether the construction is movable thing or realty and whether the authorization to construction lacked from outset or dropped out after the construction was built. Last but not least the work deals with public-law issues and also the role of public law in the formation of conditions for the rise of construction - in the chapter devoted to building plot, and also issues permission to build as a public-law act, which makes possible to...
Development of Method for Determination of Endocrine Disruptors in Environmental Samples
Novotná, Veronika ; Bosáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Čabala, Radomír (referee)
There are many substances of natural and anthropogenic origin at present called endocrine disruptors which may influence endocrine system of animals and humans. A complex analysis of endocrine disruptors in environmental samples is important for knowledge of their behaviour in living environment and for their risk estimation. A complex method has been developed in this thesis for an analysis of bisphenol A, 17α-ethinylestradiol, irgasan and 4-nonylphenol in activated sludge and soil involving ASE extraction, sludge extract cleaning with silicagel and GPC and subsequent GC/MS and HPLC/UV samples quantification. These final extraction conditions of ASE have been settled: extraction mixture DCM:acetone (3:1 v/v), temperature 60 řC, pressure 1700 psi, 3 extraction cycles. ASE yield during soil extraction has been settled in range of 93,0-116,3 % with RSD 2,7-5,7% by HPLC/UV analysis and 93,3-106,0 % with RSD 9,3-15,6 % by GC/MS analysis. The whole method yield including the cleaning steps has been settled in range of 78,2-111,2 % with RSD 4,1-10,6 % in HPLC/UV quantification and 74,6-88,9 % with RSD 3,7-18,2 % in GC/MS quantification. The method application on the artificially contaminated sludge and soil samples analyzed after five months of storage has provided the yield of all analysts in range of...
Learner goals and attitudes to mistakes from an ELT and ELF perspective
Dunková, Jiřina ; Quinn Novotná, Veronika (advisor) ; Gráf, Tomáš (referee)
The present research focuses on students' attitudes and preferences towards English language learning at Czech private language schools. Existential quantifier "some" in determinative and pronominal functions, and its translation equivalents in Czech
Řenčová, Andrea ; Šaldová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Quinn Novotná, Veronika (referee)
This thesis deals with existential quantifier some and its compound forms someone, somebody and something. The English pronoun some has two basic functions: pronominal and determinative. In Czech the grammatical category of definiteness is missing. The lack of the category of definiteness is reflected in the use of the translation equivalents that are manifold. In many cases there are no explicit correlates. The pronunciation of some in determinative or pronominal function is also the subject of this paper as well as the occurence of some in assertive or non-assertive contexts. The use of someone and somebody differs stylistically. The English pronominal compounds are also compared with the Czech translation correlates. By means of ParaConc, a parallel concordance software, the total number of 105 examples of some, 30 examples of something, 30 examples of someone and 9 instances of somebody was gathered. The collected material is based on both American and British English, the main sources being A Widow for One Year by John Irving and The Holy Thief by Ellis Peters.
