Rhyme in 16th-Century Hungarian Historical Songs: A Pilot Study

This article presents a computer-based stichometric analysis of 26 Hungarian historical songs from the 16th century. We explore the validity of comments made by Albert Szenci Molnár in 1607 about the poor quality and simplicity of stanza structures in the poetry of previous generations. The study shows how rhyming changed in this poetic genre between 1539 and 1598. In this respect, it is the first work to explore these changes through a quantitative analysis. We find that during the examined period, there was a marked decline in the frequency of rhymes based on the repetition of the same word. At the same time, the tendency to maintain a rhyme across multiple stanzas did not change significantly.

The Life and the Early Works of Josef Mach

The Abstract The Bachelor work is based on the interpretation of life, early work and import of writer Josef Mach. According to these criteriors the work is devided to three thematical spheres. The first part represents the Mach's biography, which gets out of original information from his work, from his correspondence and from the documents of instituitons, which his life was connected with. The second part of the work analyses Mach's early two poem digests from the formal point of view and mainly from the semantical point of view. The last part of the work takes aim at representative secondary literature about Josef Mach and at development of publication and adapting of his work. The aim of this work is first effort of completing of information about this czech poet, who influenced home literature and literature abroad, and second to give the elementary thematical view of his early work.

František Hrubín's poetry for children

This bachelor's thesis is about František Hrubín's poetry for children. There are his three collections: Říkejte si se mnou, Dvakrát sedm pohádek and Sviť, sluníčko, sviť. The first chapter deals with the development of Czech poetry for children until the mid-twentieth century, folk literature and especially folk poetry. The second chapter introduces us to Hrubín's life and his total works for children. From formal, thematic, rhythmical and verbal points of view are these three collections studied in the third chapter. Four selected poems are analyzed in the fourth chapter. František Hrubín belonged to the most important Czech writers in the twentieth century. Besides literature for adults Hrubín was devoted to poetry for children wholeheartedly. He is recognized as a great creator of modern poetry for children. A basis of his poetry is folk poetry - especially rhyme. His poetry is compositionally and thematically diverse. It is full of joy and hope.

Working with Poetic Texts at Primary School

The diploma thesis focuses on work with poem mostly in lessons concerning reading and literary education and also cross-curricular usage of it in elementary school. The theoretical part is dealing with findings from the field of literary theory and didactics focusing on work with poetic text, its basic terms and poetic tools. There is also a brief development of Czech authorial poetry and reference to folk´s literature. The questionnaires of the research part are focused on usage of poetic texts in teaching in elementary school, the attention is especially put on the way how it can be applied and the degree of its application. The practical part offers a database of activities for work with poem and samples of handouts which were verified by pupils of elementary school. Methodical double-sheet for teachers is attached to the handouts for pupils.

The Possibilities of Poetry Translation - The Translation of Jan Skácel's Poems into Russian

anglicky: The Bachelor thesis The Possibilities of the Translation of Poetry deals with the current problems surrounding the theories of translation, with the translation of poetic texts and then specifically with the translation of the poetry of Skácel into Russian. The aim of this thesis is to provide a complete overview and a critical analysis of one of the two currently published collections of poems translated into Russian, and then to offer my own translation. In the first section, the thesis in its first two chapters discusses the state of modern translation, analyses the issues surrounding the translation of poetry, and specifically of rhymed texts, and discusses the terms adequacy and equivalence in translation. The following practical section presents a critical analysis of the Russian edition of a collection of some poems by Skácel, translated by A. Kushner and A. Purin. My own attempt at an adequate translation is also presented as part of this thesis, complete with commentary and comparison of some selected key passages with the published translation. My complete translation itself is appended at the end.

Translation Variations of Apollinaire's Zone

The main goal of this dissertation is comparison of different translations of the poem Zone in the czech languague. The key part of this work is an analysis of the translation of selected passage od Zone. The summary which describes each translation of the poem is elaborated on the basis of this part. We can divide the translations of Zone into three basic streams: Karel Čapek and Petr Kopta hold the reproducing style of translation. Petr Skarlant and Karel Sýs prefer a less precise translation enriched with their own invention. Gustav Francl tends rather to the reproducing concept, but we would describe his style more as modernizing. To create sufficiant information foundations for the analysis of translations, the whole first part of the dissertation is dedicated to the theory of artistic translation, the personage of Guillaume Apollinaire, the analysis of Zone and the personages of the Czech translators. The monographic thesis mainly solves poetry and prose of Josef Mach, the Czech writer, journalist and clerk. It watches literary progress of his poetics according to the era context, influenc of places, historical and social events and inspirations of other artists who surrounded him. The work look into the texts and lyrics by a diachronic and synchronic way. The section about his original works is followed by a chapter about translations of several novels, because he acted even on this literary field. Then the general outline of the reception of Mach's personality and works since the time of his life until today. The whole thesis is introduced by Mach's biography to which it returns in many topics because his works have an empiric character and it is closely connected to the life. The object of the thesis is to sum information about all these topics and give it as a base for future expert research.
