From the Battlefield to Psych Ward. War on Terror and Its Impact on Mental Health of U.S. Soldiers
Miková, Zuzana ; Kozák, Kryštof Přemysl (advisor) ; Smetana, Michal (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the psychological problems of American veterans from the war on terror. This work aimed to find out what mental effects soldiers take away from the conflict and what main reasons led to their creation. The bachelor's thesis briefly describes the context of the war on terror and new methods of combat used in this conflict, as well as the psychological consequences veterans are facing upon returning home. It introduces programs offered by the American government and ministries to assist affected individuals. The result of the research concludes with serious psychological consequences found among veterans of the war on terror, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder. This represents the highest number to date among all conflicts led by the United States. The major issue is the "unrecognized" cost of the war, such as increased rates of alcoholism, violence, or family breakdown. These consequences also negatively impact the wider society. There are several reasons for developing mental health issues from the war on terror, but the main ones include the prolonged duration of the conflict, new methods of combat and technologies, society's gradual shift towards war rejection, and a negative attitude towards veterans. However, it is also important to note that...

Bullying as a pathological phenomenon in the workplace
Hejzlarová, Alice ; Štefko, Martin (advisor) ; Tomšej, Jakub (referee)
Bullying as a pathological phenomenon in the workplace Abstract The thesis paper examines the pathological phenomenon of bullying, focusing on its occurrence in the workplace in connection with employee mental health, a topic that until recently has been relatively neglected but which in recent years has increasingly moved to the forefront of general public awareness. Each chapter of the paper analyses the manifestations of bullying in the workplace, the people to whom it relates, as well as its consequences on mental and physical health. The issue of bullying in the workplace is further described de lege lata and opens up the possibility of regulation de lege ferenda. It examines the risks and threats associated with this issue and provides a brief overview of the history of bullying, its types and forms. It also presents possibilities of defence from the victim's point of view and focuses on specific environments where bullying occurs, such as in the security forces and military, health care or education. It also discusses national and transnational initiatives in this area, as well as currently functioning practical examples of their application from abroad, which could in many ways serve as inspiration for future Czech legislation. The work reflects relevant case law and describes and adds to the...
Epidemie eboly a její ekonomické a jiné dopady na země západní Afriky
Benešová, Lucie
More than 30,000 people have been infected with this disease since the first Ebola outbreak in 1976. The largest and most fatal was the fifth Ebola epidemic, which especially hit three West African countries in 2014–2015: Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. This Bachelor Thesis examines the economic and other consequences of the fifth epidemic in these three countries. The impacts on the economy of these three countries were analysed based on available data: gross domestic product (GDP), unemployment and international trade. It was found that the composition and development of GDP of all studied countries changed in connection with the epidemic. Real GDP growth slowed to 0.1% (2015) in Guinea, 0.7% in Liberia (2014) and -21.5% (2015) in Sierra Leone. The unemployment rate was not affected and the negative balance of international trade deepened in all three states. Other impacts on affected countries and their populations have been reflected in the mitigated travel and tourism and mental health of survivors, relatives and citizens living in impacted regions.
