Reflections on the Nuclear Taboo in Selected Foreign Affairs Articles Published between 2009-2020 in the US

This bachelor thesis examines the reflection of the nuclear taboo in selected Foreign Affairs articles from 2009 to 2020 in the US. The aim is to determine whether there has been a weakening of the taboo during this period or a change in the atmosphere in which the taboo exists. The articles were analyzed using a content analysis method, particularly to determine whether elements of the nuclear taboo were challenged. At the same time, the change in atmosphere in these texts was examined to see whether there was fear or pessimism about the future. Identifying these phenomena is essential, as both may signal a change in attitude towards the nuclear taboo. The main finding of the analysis is that the nuclear taboo is not weakening in the period under review, or rather, the thesis concludes that the nuclear taboo is under pressure and facing significant challenges but is not weakening overall. On the contrary, the change in the atmosphere has been confirmed, as there has been an apparent increase in the fear of nuclear weapons during the period under review, whether due to new proliferation, the arms race, or the threat of nuclear war. The Great Powers and the Winter War: Approach to the Soviet-Finnish Conflict

This thesis deals with an approach of Great Britain, France, Germany and the United States to the winter war. A military conflict between Finland and the Soviet Union, which began without any declaration of war on 30th November 1939 and ended by the Moscow peace treaty on 13th March 1940. The aim of this thesis is to analyze power interests and motivation of mentioned great powers in ongoing crisis. The analysis is followed by their comparison based on analysis of primary and secondary sources. This comparison implies that even though mentioned states found common ground, like England and France did in the case od nordic intervention, or their approach was similar by chance, their motivation was different and was influenced by different factors.
Czechoslovak-Cuban Relations in the 1980s

This thesis analyzes the development of Czechoslovak-Cuban relations in the eighties of the 20th century. In the first part the author is shortly showing development of mutual relations after the Cuban revolution in 1959 and the role of Czechoslovakia in the process of consolidation of the regime of Fidel Castro. Later the author is concentrating on the core of the paper, which is divided into four chapters. These chapters are analyzing in detail particular areas of mutual relations - political, economic, scientific and technical cooperation and cultural. In the political area author is investigating the changes in international relations in connection with advent of Ronald W. Reagan and Mikhail S. Gorbachev and its influences on the relations between Czechoslovakia and Cuba. In the eighties the core of relations had been shifted into the economic sphere and trade, loans and investment units which were often discussed and also were sources of disputes. Scientific and technical cooperation and culture were traditional forms of mutual relations and also during the eighties the cooperation was intense. In the end the author states that the relations in the reporting period are best described by the word "stability" because in the comparison with the years after the Cuban revolution lost it is own dynamic.
Warfare and Institutional Communication on Social Media in 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict

The thesis concerns with communication of Armenian and Azerbaijani Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Ministries of Defence on Facebook in relation to 2020 Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The official institutional accounts were used to bolster one sided narratives of the conflict, often by emotional appeals and misinformation targeting international and domestic audence. By analyzing FB communication of the named institutions, it aims to identify the key narrative-building tools utilized by state institutions in communication practice and how these tools are used prior to and during wartime. It also aims at comparing the communication practice across the institutions and in between the countries by analyzing Facebook posts of named ministries over period of 100 days using a dataset generated via Crowdtangle.

The British Conservative Party in the 1950s: Continuity or Change?

In this bachelor thesis the author will focus on the analysis of the activity of British Conservative Party in the 1950s. In particular he will study a reaction of Conservatives on the failure in the general election in 1945, the Party's reforms and revival and victorious elections in 1951. Further author will focus on the analysis of functioning of the Conservatives as a Party-in-Government, i.e. on the analysis of the realization of the election programme of the Tories, on their approach to the Welfare State made by the Labour Party and to Labour Party itself, on the analysis of the government's activities in home and foreign affairs, and last but not least on the analysis of the causes and consequences of achievements in elections in the 1950s.
The Foreign Politics of the State of Israel and Czech- Israeli Relations

The bachelor thesis focuses on the analysis and evaluation of the current state of relations between the Czech Republic and Israel with regard to important historical events. The first part discusses the foreign policy of Israel and its development since 1948. The second part is devoted to Czech- Israeli relations determined by historical, economic and cultural factors. The last part of the thesis deals with the influence of other players in the field of foreign affairs on the mutual Czech-Israeli diplomatic relations.
