Spectral analysis of Streicher and Bösendorfer pianos in the works of J. Brahms and F. Liszt
Pokorný, Marek ; Jirásek, Ondřej
This paper demonstrates the use of signal analysis methods, spectral analysis in particular, to illustrate the differences in musical timbre using two historical pianos from different eras and one contemporary piano as examples. The historical pianos in question are two 19th century grand pianos similar to those used by world-famous Romantic composers such as Franz Liszt and Johannes Brahms. The spectral analysis was performed using the MATLAB computing environment software in conjunction with the Steinberg Wavelab digital audio editor, and the grand piano samples were taken from the Pianoteq instrument VST plug-in developed by Modartt, which efficiently samples the real instruments for a near-identical piano sound and experience. The methods described in this article are suitable for analysing isolated tones as well as complex harmonies; depending on the specific application, the results can be interpreted in a number of ways.

Low return rates for women after maternity/parental leave: a case study of a selected organisation
Majtaníková, Denisa ; Šťovíčková Jantulová, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Moree, Dana (referee)
The thesis is a case study of a selected organization that deals with the issue of low return rate of women after maternity/parental leave. The theoretical framework is based on the identification of the key factors affecting women's return to work, including the Work Life Balance concept, C. Hakim's Preference Theory, the concept of employee turnover, R. A. Karasek's Demand-Control Model and J. Siegrist's Effort-Return Imbalance Model. The empirical part of the research relates to the research question identifying the factors that influence the low return rate of women to the mentioned organization. The research is based on two sources of data - analysis of selected documents, complementing the context of in-depth semi-structured research interviews. The sample consists of selected women of the mentioned organization. With regard to theories and other relevant documents, three significant factors influencing the low return of women to the said organisation were identified - the difficulty of the work, low financial remuneration and the nature of the work. The fourth less significant factor was the lack of communication from the organisation after women go on maternity leave. The research concludes with a discussion and a conclusion.
Big Five personality traits and chronic diseases: Who is more prone to suffer from chronic diseases?
Tkáčová, Andrea ; Votápková, Jana (advisor) ; Bertoli, Paola (referee)
Chronic diseases are a growing concern for older adults, impacting their health and well-being. This thesis explores the link between personality traits and chronic diseases in this population, utilizing logit and multinomial logit mod- els to analyse risk factors. Three increasingly complex models were employed, progressively incorporating factors like residence country and generational dif- ferences. Inborn personality traits were used as an exogenous instrument for mental well-being as mental health is often endogenous to health status. Re- sults reveal neuroticism, a personality trait characterized by negative emotions and stress management di culties, as the strongest predictor of chronic dis- eases. This finding emphasizes the critical role of mental health in overall health. Individuals high in neuroticism are more likely to engage in unhealthy behaviors that increase their risk of chronic diseases. Additionally, the influ- ence of demographics, health behaviors, socioeconomic factors, and education was explored. Chronic disease risk soars with unhealthy habits like excess eat- ing resulting in overweight and drinking alcohol, but plummets with exercise and staying smoke-free. This emphasizes the critical role of healthy behaviors throughout life. The findings highlight the importance of...
About brigands and bandits. Elaboration of a textual tradition.
Raabová, Kateřina ; Jančík, Jiří (advisor) ; Fučíková, Milena (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to introduce the phenomenon of brigandage, its origins, but also its development in time and space, and above all in the context of textual tradition. Robbery is examined from a literary scientific perspective, emphasizing its belonging to both the real and the fictional universe. Representatives of this phenomenon, both from the French and the Czech environment, are not neglected in the research. The tales and legends related to these selected heroes are then subjected to a comparative analysis, which takes the optics of Vladimir J. Propp's fairy tale morphology and does not forget the study of motifs by Adam Votruba. At the same time, selected motifs and themes, are also identified in this work. The detailed analysis aims to determine whether the brigand stories are completely individual and unique or whether they are just certain variations on an identical theme and thus a kind of regional updating of a single model. At the same time, the thesis focuses on the reflection of the brigand theme in culture, specifically in literature, film, music and visual arts, without neglecting its overlap with contemporary times. In the appendix section of the thesis, stories of individual brigands are selected at the end, which may help the reader to better understand not only the...
The Phenomenon of Climate Change Denial and Its Impact on Donald J. Trump's Environmental Policy
Geigerová, Eliška ; Sehnálková, Jana (advisor) ; Kozák, Kryštof Přemysl (referee)
The phenomenon of climate denial has been a major driver that has greatly influenced the environmental debate in the Republican Party in the United States. This paper examines President Donald Trump's policies and the impact of his actions on environmental protection. The main objective is to demonstrate that Trump as president has followed the trend of the Republican Party and with that, he has targeted the deregulation of environmental policy that has been visible in the Republican Party since the 1980s. The content analysis was conducted through an examination of the various executive powers that the president could use to interfere with the political scene. For this reason, the practical part of the thesis focuses on a cross-section of each area in order to outline the process of influencing the severity of the climate crisis in all major areas. The enumeration mainly involved executive orders, presidential proclamations, the appointment of influential persons to the main cabinets of the government, and by extension the international aspect - the Paris Agreement. What is evident from the results of the paper is the strong alignment between the Republican Party and President Donald Trump, who has clearly advocated economic growth at the cost of environmental rollbacks.
The Party of Regions as an instrument of Russian soft power
Shkurat, Ivan ; Mlejnek, Josef (advisor) ; Kubátová, Hana (referee)
The bachelor thesis focuses on the analysis of the pro-Russian Party of Regions in the context of Russian soft power and the promotion of Russian interests in Ukraine. The bachelor thesis is dedicated to demonstrating Russia's influence on the Party of Regions and the party's efforts to represent a pro-Russian position. The theoretical part of the thesis is based on the theory of soft power of the American political scientist J. Nye. Last but not least, the thesis will examine the Party of Regions' position on selected issues where Russian interest was present, especially on issues related to the expansion of the status of the Russian language and support for an oriented Russian Orthodoxy. In the context of the support for the Russian narrative, I will approach the Party of Regions' governance in the period 2010-2014. The practical part of the paper discusses the party's position on the issues outlined. The paper uses a qualitative approach, in particular content analysis of data. The thesis attempts to determine whether the functioning of the Party of Regions as an instrument of Russian soft power can be identified and how the Party of Regions as an instrument of soft power functioned.
Tectonic pattern and thermochronology of the late- to post-Variscan events in the southwestern Moldanubian Zone (Bohemian Massif)
Kalinová, Radka ; Verner, Kryštof (advisor) ; Franěk, Jan (referee)
The southwestern part of the Moldanubian Zone including southern flank of the Western Moldanubian Unit, Bavarian Unit and "Transitional Zone" located in between reveal a complex tectonic history as the result of late-orogenic exhumation and several post-Variscan tectonic episodes in Permian to Neogene era. New multi-mineral K-Ar dating reflects the cooling up to ca. 150ř C and later stages of crustal exhumation in the southern flank of the Western Moldanubian Unit at ~339 to 334 Ma. In contrast, the "Transitional Zone" and the Bavarian Unit underwent the exhumation and similar cooling history in range ~330 to 315 Ma and ~300 to 280 Ma, respectively. These events were driven by fading ~N(NNW)-S(SSE) oriented compression (up to 325 Ma) and subsequent increasing role of ~ENE-WSW oriented extension. In this context, a prominent right-lateral to oblique normal slip along ~WNW(NW)- ESE(SE) shear or fault zones and simultaneous left-lateral to oblique normal slip along ~NNE(NE)-SSW(SW) were active. Following "post-orogenic" (post-Permian) episodes were mainly associated with (a) additional thermal input (re-heating) between Jurassic (~170 Ma) to early Cretaceous (~140 Ma), accompanied by ~NE-SW oriented extension (transtension) and (b) upper Cretaceous (~105-82 Ma) crustal uplift and cooling under...
