Democracy and Islam: Muslims in France - impacts of immigration and integration policy
Krausová, Hana ; Šánová, Lucie (advisor) ; Fínková, Eva (referee)
For liberal-democratic country of Western Europe such as France it is difficult to accept immigrants, who bring different traditions, culture and especially religion, which carries with its specific demands. Above that strong nationalism, patriotism and pride of its own cultural traditions are typical for France. Therefore the communication and tolerance for significantly different and inadaptable citizens may be difficult. The proposed thesis will focus on Muslims living in France. From a historical perspective it will devote to the period from the end of the World War II up to now, when the numbers of immigrants of Muslim origin have begun to rise rapidly. France is trying to deal with it on its own, but today, in general, the criteria for granting citizenship and universally the claims for adaptation increase both in the legislation, and also significantly in the approach of French citizens to immigrants. For a more accurate understanding of the topic it is necessary to clarify the differences between various groups of Muslims in terms of their time of arrival in France, the country of origin and the type of professed Islam. In my thesis I will describe the diversity among Muslims, who live in France, furthemore I will examine impacts of the immigration and the integration policy exactly on...

Děkanovská, Kateřina ; Kropáček, Luboš (advisor) ; Hošek, Pavel (referee) ; Štampach, Ivan (referee)
The thesis deals with the topic of Christian-Muslim dialogue in some European countries. The first part gives a theoretical understanding of Christian position towards other faiths and the dialogue with them. The author presents some theological questions and practical topics of Christian-Muslim dialogue, because they directly influence, if the Christian community (Church) starts the dialogue or not. This part also introduces to the immigration process of people from Muslim countries to Europe and presents the results of current sociological surveys, both in relation to their integration and creation of identities, and in relation to changes in Muslim religiosity within European space with the aim to show the variability and inner complexity of the Muslim presence in Europe. By giving an overview of the cooperation of Muslims with European and international institutions in the second part it proves, that the 2001 affairs completely changed their political will for the dialogue with Muslims. By an overview of the cooperation of Muslim groups with European ecumenical organisations and the Roman-Catholic Church it shows the general maturity of the dialogue, but also its limits set by structures and low measure of reflection at the grass-root level. The thesis outlines the current life situation of Muslims in...
Media representation of muslim women in mlada fronta dnes, and its development in time
Poulová, Radka ; Macků, Lucie (advisor) ; Vrbová, Lenka (referee)
Though the objective of news reporting in mass media is to retain neutrality, the reality has showed us that this aim is never completely fulfilled: several factors enter the news creating process which result in the final picture being deformed and misrepresentations and stereotyping are created. In the following text, we first outline the basics of these mechanisms, as well as the basic characteristic of islam and the position of women in it. Later on, we look particularly at how the media portrayals of muslim women are being created. We analyse the portrayal of muslim women in Mladá fronta DNES, the largest Czech national serious daily paper, during the course of the years 2001 and 2011. We try to figure out what a common perception of a muslim woman in the news stories is, and in which areas the muslim women are missing. We use both quantitative and qualitative analysis and focus on both written materials and pictures.

Záhradníková, Lea ; Filipová, Lucie (advisor) ; Dimitrov, Michal (referee)
The thesis compares the measures of integration policies of Nicolas Sarkozy and Angela Merkel in the period 2005/2006-2011. Main attention is paid to Muslim immigrants and their immigration to France and Germany and especially their integration to these societes. The work confirms the hypothesis that the French integration policy during the presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy showed more restrictive elements than the German one in the period of the governments of Chancellor Angela Merkel. This thesis is further examining similar and different features of the integration policies of these two actors.

Nonetheless, radical Islamic movements have some only small support among Crimean Tatars and their organizations. Research also indicates that topic of Islam is often misused by Muslim and non-Muslim political...

The Muslims and the Civil Society
Bürgerová, Zuzana ; Moree, Dana (advisor) ; Muhič Dizdarevič, Selma (referee)
This thesis aims to analyze the relationship between the Muslim community and the civil society. The community is narrowed down to practicing Muslims and three organizations in which Muslims unite. Churches and religious societies have a special status within the civil society due to their missionary work and the content of their religious activities. Do the religious organizations of the Muslim community stand on the verge of the civil society or do they strive for cooperation with the major public within the frame of common activities? Czech society fears this minority due to a negative media picture of Muslims. Are those fears well-founded and can the religious community change this way of perceiving them? This negative perception can relate to an insufficient integration process which I also target in my thesis. Muslims founded their first religious organizations on Czech territory during the First Republic, but it lost its legal validity after 1989. This thesis also deals with the legislative aspects of functioning of the selected organizations, mainly the Islamic foundation based in Prague and Brno.
Saladin and Richard the Lion-Heart - what divides and what unites them
Hromas, Jakub ; Veverková, Kamila (advisor) ; Lášek, Jan Blahoslav (referee)
The third crusade could be likened to a chess game, taking place between the English King Richard I and the Muslim Sultan Saladin. The game that eventually ended in stalemate because neither Richard nor Saladin were able to gain an advantage over his opponent, which would lead to the final turn. The attitudes of both men were very different and this is obviously reflected in their ruling and military capabilities. The question which therefore arises is, how were Richard I and Saladin linked? The answer is simple. The King of England and the Muslim Sultan were on a larger scale linked with a right to the Holy Land and in the narrow scale to Jerusalem. If we try to understand Saladin and Richard we must focus on the period in which they lived, the situation in the Holy Land and minds of Christians and Muslims. This goal is also subject to the methodology of the work, descriptive method with contextual analysis and structure of the thesis were chosen.

Deseyve, David ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Váška, Jan (referee)
The bachalor thesis is focused on the development of mutual relationships of the Muslims immigrants and majority society in England in the period after terroristic attacks in London in June 2005. The description of multicultural society in England and comparison of its development from the view of social-cultural coexistence with majority is an integral part of this study. An inseparable part of the analysed issue is also a level of education and other social indicators of Muslims minority position in society, which speaks volumes in mutual coexistence. Part of the described social issues is Islamic radicalism as well. In this context I describe terroristic attacks in London and consequent reaction of citizens, media and Muslims organizations. The political representation of the country had to react to the given situation as well, especially by approval of new legal norms for more effective struggle against terrorism. In the context of analysed Islamic radicalism, I focus on current state of terroristic safety threat and especially on the fact, whether this threat is so actual and socially dangerous how it is often presented in mass media.
The end of Maur's Granada
Terešková, Barbora ; Opatrný, Josef (advisor) ; Binková, Simona (referee)
The present thesis deals with the end of Moorish Granada. The work starts in the year 1232, when the Emirate of Granada, also known as the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, was established by its first emir Muhammad ibn Yusuf ibn Nasr, also known as Al-Ahmar, The Red, founder of the Nasrid dynasty; and it finishes with the taking of Granada by the Catholic Monarchs, Queen Isabella I of Castile and King Ferdinand II of Aragon. In any case, it doesn't limit itself to the moment when the last Arabic fort (the Alhambra) was taken, but it continues until early the 16th century, since the aim of this paper is the comparison of both Nasrid Granada and Catholic Granada. This paper further deals with the history of the Nasrid Emirate and the Nasrid dynasty, since I deem it impossible to engage in the study of Nasrid society, economics and art without getting first a knowledge about the historical events previous to the taking of Granada. During the 250 years of existence of the Nasrid Emirate, more than 20 emirs took a turn in power, being this the cause of instability in the political system. A kingdom which is not able to solve internal problems and to get united against the enemy cannot get big chances to win a war. In 1492 Isabella and Ferdinand took the last fort, Alhambra, thus bringing an end to the process...
