"Oi! Warning" and "Dazlak - Skinhead" - Skinheads as a threat for German society?
Koryntová, Eva ; Lizcová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Zelená, Alena (referee)
This thesis deals with the German skinhead subculture in the 1990s and its presentation in the contemporary films Dazlak - Skinhead and Oi! Warning. Firstly, the theoretical part describes the origin and attributes of the skinhead subculture in Great Britain and its evolution in Germany. Afterwards, it focuses on the two films, puts them into the context of the history of the skinhead movement in Germany and introduces their storyline and characteristics. Furthermore, the presentation of skinheads in these films is analysed. The basis of the analysis are four theses, which the specialist literature defines for the skinheads characteristic: tendency to right-wing extremism, violence and aggression, the working-class origin and specific lifestyle characterized by listening to skinhead music, drinking alcohol and attending parties and concerts. Most of these statements are confirmed by the two films. However, both of them present the subculture in a different way. The black and white film Oi! Warning does not focus on the issue of right-wing extremism but on violence, aggression and skinhead lifestyle. For its overall aesthetics, tragic ending and the negative character of the "real" skinhead Koma, it can be argued that this film presents the subculture in a negative way. Dazlak - Skinhead tries to disprove...
The supervillains and their motivations in Marvel Cinematic Universe movies
Navrátil, David ; Hrdina, Matouš (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
This thesis deals with the villains' depiction in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. By examining the first 20 movies of the series, I try to find out how are the villains depicted in the MCU movies and what are their motivations. This is achieved through combination of studying relevant literature that deals with the topic, qualitative content analysis of the movies and narrative analysis, which is based on the monomyth structure of Joseph Campbell and its reinterpretation for movies and television by Christopher Vogler. In this thesis I first shortly describe the history of superhero movie as a whole and the specifics of the shared Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the theoretical part I describe Campbell's and Vogler's narrative structure. Then I describe the methodology, which I then use to describe the findings and their interpretations. In this part I examine the villains' motivations, which are divided into several categories, and examine their story arcs through the prism of the Hero's journey structure. Here it is shown that the villains in the MCU movies are depicted in an overwhelmingly Manichean way. In the discussion, I describe possible issues with my research and suggest potential directions of further research. In the conclusion, I then summarize the findings of both the theoretical...
Changes in the Portrayal of the Velvet Revolution within the Czech Cinemathography
Peřinová, Eliška ; Spalová, Barbora (advisor) ; Moskvina, Yuliya (referee)
My thesis is focused on exploration of the portrayal of the Velvet Revolution within Czech Cinematography. I am examining this problematic through the theory of the collective memory. In particular I am using a methodological concept developed by Irena Řehořová in her study Cultural Memory and Film: How the Image of Post-War Displacement in Czech Film Has Changed. I have chosen three films - each representing one period of time and by conducting a qualitative content analysis I am trying to identify the key means of expression that are used to represent the concept of the Velvet Revolution during each of those particular periods of time and what overall image of the Velvet Revolution creators of the movies are trying to show to their viewers. At the same time, I am focusing on the reaction of professional critics and regular viewers to check how the Czech public reacts to the representations of the Velvet revolution shown in the films. My thesis is divided into four parts. The first, Theoretical Chapter is based on the theory of the collective memory with a focus on the Czech specifics and non-documentary movie as medium of collective memory. Following is a description of the historical context of the Velvet Revolution and its today's position in the Czech public discourse. Then there is the...
Re-presentation of August 1968 in film production
Patová, Viktorie ; Spalová, Barbora (advisor) ; Wladyniak, Ludmila Maria (referee)
The thesis focuses on the connection between social memory and film reproduction of the past. Through selected examples of film production, the thesis explores how filmmakers dealt with the theme of August 68 and how their approach to the subject changed. The aim of the thesis is to explore "images" through which the film representation construct the events of August 68 and how they are or are not accepted by the public. Selected films for analysis were Pelíšky (1999), Anglické jahody (2008) and Jan Palach (2018). The analysis of the films was carried out by a qualitative content analysis taken from the work Cultural Memory and Film: How the Image of Postwar Displacement in Czech Film by Irena Řehořová. Film representations are explored through six categories: film form, themes and stories, the social world of film, cultural-historical memory, the seen X the unseen, the reception at the time of introduction and now. The analysis suggested that with increasing distance from the Velvet Revolution, the films began to criticize more the behaviour of Czech society during the occupation. Also, authors's declaimed aim of the work especially underwent a significant change. Another finding is that the formal components of the film used to display August 68 are primarily the toning of the image and the sound...

Hezinová, Jana ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
From the beginning of the twenty first century vampires begin to appear in other genres other than the horror and their image in popular media starts to change. The changes begin not only in the image but also the perception of vampire in popular media shifts into new directions. These changes are interconnected and influence each other. The thesis will analyse the ways vampires are portrayed in films and TV series from the end of the twenties century until recent times. The changes happening will be explored across different genres and across time. The thesis will then attempt to examine whether there is a pattern of trends within the observed forms, and whether these trends are common across the different genres.
The scenic realizations and adaptations of Strakonický Dudák by J. K. Tyl (1918-2017).
LAFATOVÁ, Alžběta
The diploma thesis concerns 1918-2017 stagings and adaptations of Strakonický dudák. We continue in the bachelor´s thesis Character of a bagpiper in 19th century Czech literature, a comparison with Pitinský's 2013 staging of Strakonický dudák. The aim of the diploma thesis is to show the changes in the attitude towards Tyl´s drama Strakonický dudák (1847) during the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century. On the basis of the interpretation of Tyl´s text we analyse chosen adaptations and stagings and we compare the main topics with Tyl´s version. In the first part we are concerned with interpretation of film adaptations of Tyl´s drama from 1937 to 1955. We examine different approaches to the theme and the way it is affected by socio-political situation. In the second part we deal with theatre stagings of Strakonický dudák. First, we deal with the position of theatre since the 1950s and with the demands on the adaptation on Tyl´s play. By means of interpretation of 1980-2006 stagings of Strakonický dudák we follow the shift from the adaptation based on Zdeněk Nejedlý´s thoughts to distinctive and original adaptations which offer current topics

Rovenská, Ivana ; Pražák, Pavel (referee) ; Smetana, Matěj (advisor)
Diploma work reflects the issue of psychospiritutarian transformation. In this way, a local specific video installation was created aimed at the sensual experience of the viewer. The Film has approximately thirteen minutes and contains four parts, which arose from the archive of the recorded audiovisual material spinning on the camera with a fixed 50mm lens from May 2018. A special role plays a visual relationship that is traditionally linked to this phenomenon.
