Mineralogy in the School curricula

This bachelor thesis is focused on teaching geology and mainly mineralogy on grammar schools. Questionnaire was made for purposes of this bachelor thesis. Objective of this questionnaire was to ascertain information about organization teaching geology and mineralogy on these types of schools and their inclusion in the school curricula. The questionnaire results showed that each school is very different in organization of teaching geology. Mineralogy is most often taught in first classes of four-year, or an equivalent multi-year study. Mineralogy is at some schools taught only in classes corresponding to an elementary school. Optional subject in which is the geology taught students may choose only to nearly forty percent of surveyed schools. Schools use a lot of sorts of material - textbooks for elementary and secondary schools, university textbooks, professional books and Internet resources. The most common tools used in the teaching of geology are collections of samples. Very frequent are also models of crystals and the geological maps. Fewer common are paintings, photographs and films with a geological theme. Science field trip to the "Český kras" area for the secondary school

The aim of this bachelor thesis is the design and development of natural science model school excursion, using the "Český kras" as an area in which it would take place. Also, creation of the worksheets and methodological recommendations for a smooth running of the excursion.
Volcanics of the southeastern flank of the barrandian Neoproterozoic in vicinity of Dobříš

Diploma thesis deals with geological, petrological, structural and geochemical studies of the most probably neoproterozoic volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Pičín belt in the area NW from Dobříš, approximately between the villages Trnová and Chouzavá. Volcanics of Kozí hory area, which are demonstrably included into Davle Formation have beeen used for comparison with the Dobříš area. One of the major part of the work includes geological mapping on scale of 1:10 000, which served as a base for a more detailed petrological, structural and geochemical studies. Some lenses of lava and volcanoclastic breccia and minor layer spilite were newly discovered, areal extent of some cherts bodies and basaltic dykes were modified. Basalts, andesites and dacites bodies have been reclassified against the basic geological map of 1:25 000 (Havlíček, 1985; Mašek, 1987). Basalts in the Havlíček's (1985) map actually represent a very fine-grained rhyolites (ignimbrites) with disseminated ore minerals with layers of pyroclastic rocks (ignimbrites, volcanoclastic breccia). Areal extent of andesites and dacites bodies were modified and new body of trachyandesite was detected. The Evaluation of the Geological Educational Program and its Comparison with the Teaching in the Classroom

The thesis is concerned with appraising the educational program of the Geology Teaching Center Říčany, in particular its influence on the pupils' attitudes towards geology. The benefits of field trips and outdoor education have been observed many times; however, mostly pupils' knowledge or skills were taken into consideration while their attitudes have been investigated fairly recently. Moreover, geology is regarded by pupils as 'the more boring part of nature' and hence I was interested in whether (and how) the non-standard form of education can change the pupils' attitudes towards geology. The objectives of the thesis were 1) to investigate what the pupils' attitudes towards geology are, and 2) to decide whether (and how) the specific geology field trip affects these attitudes and to compare this influence with the one of standard class education. The third, last objective consisted in stating whether the field trip in question will help pupils to understand how sundry topographic features were created. The influence of geology to the diversity of molluscan assemblages

Molluscan populations are influenced by various factors of environment where they occur. In my work I am taking particular atention of soil properties, which are directly influenced by the geological substrate, and of course other factors which are with soil properties either directly or indirectly related. The important benchmarks are especially moisture, pH, calcium content and vegetation cover. This bachelor thesis also deals with utilization of calcium salts. Geological substrate is closely linked with the diversity and abundance of molluscan populations. Various pedochemical factors affect molluscan communities whether it is the amount of calcium in the soil or a pH value. In the past different authors found different dependencies between environmental factors, species composition and diversity of molluscan communities. Most of the studies were focused on very specific habitats and locations. In this thesis I tried to organize our knowledge about the specific effects of various environmental factors, especialy compositíon of geological substrate on malakofauna. A correspondence seminar as a motivation for secondary school students to study Geology

Master thesis is focused on how to promote secondary school students' interest in the next study of Geology as a subject of their future professional specialization. The convenient motivational tool seems to be the use of special correspondence seminar to gain and expand their knowledge. Experimental part of this thesis consists of the application the correspondence seminars through the current communication media (e.g. web portal or social network), directly in secondary schools. Scientific expeditions to Tibet and Qinghai since 1973

The thesis deals with scientific expeditions to the Tibetan plateau carried out by Chinese scientists from the 1950s. The whole thesis is framed by two models of the spread of Western science to an unknown land. Is it or is it not the spread of Western science into Tibet the form of colonial control? We will use these two models to answer this question. The thesis tracks the interests and the meaning of expeditions to China and Chinese science. It deals with the development of Chinese Academy of Sciences, which organized the Chinese expeditions. It also describes and summarizes the work and results of Chinese scientists which were presented at the international conference on Tibet in 1980, and examines their contributions to the Chinese and Western science. Part of the thesis deals with the reflection of otherness in the published interviews with participants which we use as primary sources for the thesis. Phylogeography and population structure of two loach species (Teleostei: Nemacheilidae) in Southeast Asia

The freshwater fish species Schistura robertsi and Paracanthocobitis zonalternans belong to the family Nemacheilidae, which is distributed across whole Eurasia and with one species in northeast Africa. P. zonalternans occurs in lowland habitats through western Southeast Asia from Central Myanmar until northern Malaysia. The distribution area is of biogeographic interest, because it crosses several known biogeographic barriers, namely the border between Indian and Indochinese freshwater fauna along the Salween River, the Isthmus of Kra, the Krabi - Surat Thani line and the Kangar - Pattani line. In the present study, around 250 specimens of P. zonalternans from 62 localities across the whole distribution area were investigated using genetic (nuclear and mitochondrial sequences), morphologic and geologic data. The genetic data reveal the existence of seven major clades within the analysed material, each of them with a distinct geographic distribution area and only few cases of overlap, but with occurrence of some cases of secondary contact. Divergence time estimations suggested that P. zonalternans is about 18 my old, and a biogeographic analysis located the region of origin in the Tenasserim region (nowadays southern Myanmar).
