The Function of Speech in Husserl and Merleau-Ponty
Puc, Jan ; Novotný, Karel (advisor) ; Čapek, Jakub (referee) ; Janoušek, Hynek (referee)
The Function of Speech in Husserl and Merleau-Ponty The submitted doctoral thesis is an attempt to describe the development of the intentional function of speech in Husserl and Merleau-Ponty. The intentional function is defined as the change of expressed meaning that is engendered by the expression itself. We trace Husserl's position from the Logical Investigations and the first book of his Ideas pertaining to a pure phenomenology and to a phenomenological philosophy, where he describes speech as the non- productive mirroring of other kinds of intentionality, to the late text The Origin of Geometry, where he discerns two functions of speech: it provides thought its ideality, which is different from the ideality of species; and it provides thought its objectivity, i.e. the form of object that lasts in history as identical. In The Phenomenology of Perception, Merleau-Ponty adopts Husserl's late position with several profound modifications. The starting-point ceases to be the linguistic sign, and speech becomes a kind of gesture. As a consequence, the difference between linguistic and non-linguistic ideality disappears. Furthermore, Merleau-Ponty holds that the expression accomplishes the meaning of what it expresses. In this way, speech becomes creative and ceases to be just an empty intention of...
'NERV' its functioning and activities towards government
Sršňová, Lucie ; Hejzlarová, Eva (advisor) ; Musílková, Markéta (referee)
This paper points out to ambiguous relationship between the government CR and The government's National Economic Council (NERV). The reason for such defined relationship was indefinite establishment of NERV as an advisory body in 2009; Government political instability and lack of government on socio-economic recommendations during the boom period. The members of NERV were one of the best experts in the field of economics, finance, banking etc. providing the advisory services voluntarily. The Council was working in two phases, the first phase (2009) during the Topolánek's reign and the second one (2010 - 2013) during the Nečas's reign. In case of the Topolánek's reign NERV was not statutorily established and its task was to find the solutions for the Czech Republic at the beginning of the economic recession. In case of the Nečas's reign, The Council was appointed by the government resolution. During the second phase of NERV, there was prepared a document for the Czech competitiveness strategy. This paper offers more detailed description of NERV in terms of the four selected comparable advisory bodies, as well as the analysis of the interviews with former members and assistants from NERV in connection with the analysis of government documents and materials. The marginal aim of this paper is to...

Temporality by Maurice Merleau-Ponty. From perception to a historical subject
Turínek, Tomáš ; Novotný, Karel (advisor) ; Zika, Richard (referee)
The aim of the presented treatise is to give an account on the temporality in the early work of a french phenomenologist Maurice Merleau-Ponty, mainly in his principal peace of work Phenomenology of Perception. Merleau-Ponty understands the time here as a movement of temporalization which is coextensive with the existentential movement of the subject itself. On perception, intentionality or memory we will try to demonstrate in what meaning Merleau-Ponty perceive the subject and at the same time what is the role of time in his perceptive, corporeal, pre-reflective relation with a world. Subsequently we will be asking in what sense and to what extent can the time appear to a subjekt, i.e. in what manner can the subject apprehend himself as a historical existence.
