The Srebrenica massacre as Dutch national trauma: Discourse analysis of selected daily newspapers
Ratajová, Klára ; Žíla, Ondřej (advisor) ; Šístek, František (referee)
Although more than 23 years have passed since the event known as the Srebrenica massacre, it is still a live topic in Dutch society. The Dutch troops who served on a UN peace mission in Srebrenica have been blamed for not being able to prevent the death of such a large number of innocent people. Moreover, the survivors of the killed Bosnian Muslims are still suing the Netherlands over compensations. The aim of the thesis is to find out who was blamed for the Srebrenica massacre by the Dutch society - the soldiers who served the mission, their commanders, the Netherlands, the international community or other sides involved. To reach the aim, discourse analysis was applied on articles published over a period of ten years in two influential Dutch newspapers - De Volkskrant and NRC Handelsblad. The time period from June 2007 to June 2017 was selected for the analysis as a number of key court cases took place during this particular period. The cases had a major influence on the development of the discourse of blame, which is studied in the thesis in detail. Apart from the analytical part, the thesis also includes a contextual part where historical events leading to the Srebrenica massacre are dealt with as well as the role of the Dutch peacekeepers.

Háša, Marek ; Zezulková, Markéta (advisor) ; Klimeš, David (referee)
New technologies such as social media or mobile games are often listed among the main contributors to the ever-increasing obesity rates among children. Paradoxically, the same technologies also bring potential to enhance the effectivity of healthy lifestyle interventions targeted at children. This thesis investigated the approach of the creators of such interventions towards the use of new technologies. The author devoted his attention to downstream social marketing interventions realised in the Netherlands because of the country's low youth obesity rates and exceptional position in the latest innovation rankings. The central objective of this instrumental multiple case study research was to reveal the benefits and limitations of the researched practice as perceived by the interventions' creators. Studying available documents and conducting four semi-structured interviews with the creators enabled the author to reconstruct the contexts and strategies of four Dutch healthy lifestyle interventions promoting exercise and healthy sleep and nutrition among children. The results indicated that the creators indeed regarded new technologies as a threat to children's physical and mental well-being; nevertheless, they also accepted them as an inevitable part of today's media environment and aimed to...

Mamrilla, Filip ; Kuklík, Jan (advisor) ; Skřejpková, Petra (referee)
Legal Forms of persecution of citizens in the Protectorate 1939-1945 in comparison with the occupied Netherlands In 1939, Czechoslovakia was destroyed by Nazi Germany without a single shot. Less than a year later, the Netherlands was conquered by the German army in the course of Blitzkrieg in the West. Both countries remained under occupation for almost six years, while their citizens faced an unprecedented persecution. Since these countries share a lot of commonalities, concerning size of their territory, wartime development and the form of occupation, they proved to be an ideal example to provide the comparison of the Nazi occupation regime in Western and Eastern Europe. Bohemia and Moravia joined the Reich as a protectorate, an institute of international public law that was very rare in the European context.
