Crystal chemistry of pyralspite garnets
Soumar, Jan ; Skála, Roman (advisor) ; Ulrych, Jaromír (referee)
Bohemian garnets have been known as a jewellery stone for many centuries. There is still a lot of interest in them, however, the reserves in traditional locations are getting smaller. That is why search for alternative source of similar garnets in gem quality started. Shavaryn Tsaram deposit in Mongolia is considered as one of the potential sources. Pyrope samples from eight Bohemian localities of two areas (České středohoří [The Central Bohemian Uplands] and Podkrkonoší [The Giant Mountains]) and from Shavaryn Tsaram deposit in Mongolia were analysed using electron microprobe, LA-ICP-MS, ICP-OES, Mössbauer spectroscopy and x-ray powder diffraction. The data were compared with the conclusion that the Mongolian garnets from Shavaryn Tsaram deposit are so different from the Bohemian ones that it will not be possible to use them as a gem material of similar qualities. Bohemian garnet can be characterised as a red garnet with refraction index 1.747 (+/- 0.001) with dominant pyrope component of the average composition Py78Alm17Gr5 and Cr2O3 content above 1 wt.%. The data were also evaluated from two classification schemes point of view. The schemes by Schulze (2003) and Grütter (2004) are used in determining source materials and in diamond prospection. The Becomings of Narrative: Transformation and Transmutation in the Tibetan and Mongolian 'Enchanted Corpse' Cycle
Mikos, Rachel ; Oberfalzerová, Alena (advisor) ; Zikmundová, Veronika (referee)
The goal of this thesis is the investigation of the narratives of the originally Indian cycle of tales of the Enchanted Corpse (Sanskrit: Vetālapañcavinśati, Tibetan: ro sgrung, Mongolian: siditu' kegu'r-un u'liger) in their translation and cultural transmission to Tibet and Mongolia. Primarily, this work addresses these tales from a theoretical standpoint based on the writings of French philosopher Gilles Deleuze, whose idea of "nomadology" appears highly suitable for investigating the striking differences of all of the various linguistic mutations. In particular, Deleuze's analysis of language, nomadic space, "becoming" (devenir), the body without organs (corps sans organs), speech and silence, can be very effectively applied to the interpretation of these tales in the new cultural environments of Mongolia and Tibet.

Turbat, Batbayar ; Janda, Karel (advisor) ; Leová, Simona (referee)
The theoretical literature on Microfinance claims that Microfinance methodology can help alleviate the poverty. Mongolia is one of the countries where Microfinance is implemented and said to be successful in building a deeper and broader access to financial services. The purpose of this paper is to investigate how well Microfinance is being implemented in Mongolia and what the current practice is and, most importantly, how well the microfinance methodology works. In order to answer the last question, data collected from the proximity of the Central Asian Region including Mongolia was used. Nowadays there are number of microfinance institutions operating Mongolia such as Xacbank, Credit Mongolia. Despite the previously informal microfinance bodies such pawnshops, it appears that there was still some room on the market for Microfinance to fit in. The achievements of these Microfinance institutions are remarkable given Mongolia's extremely low population density and weak infrastructure. Research on the effectiveness of microfinance methodologies are in demand. Therefore, this paper offers research on microfinance practices such as group lending, rural lending and targeting women as well. A panel data of 90 microfinance institutions in 8 countries from the region was used. The result is rather mixed. Targeting women and lending to the rural customers seem to be working. However, group lending is found to be increasing portfolio risk and while having no effect on the financial revenue and the profitability.
