Commented translation: Selected poems by S. T. Coleridge
Eliášová, Johana ; Beran, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Pilný, Ondřej (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to present a new translation and a translatological analysis of four selected poems by the English Romantic poet Samuel Taylore Coleridge, i.e. Dejection: An Ode, The Nightingale, Frost at Midnight, and Love. The analysis is based on the presented translation and on the previous translations of the same texts by Václav Renč (first published in 1965) and Zdeněk Hron (published in 1999). The thesis is divided into the translation and three following parts. The first part covers the understanding of the texts and the philological problems that might impede it. There is also a description of semantic differences between individual translations. These differences originate in diverse interpretations of the texts by their translators and in inadequate choices of Czech equivalents. The second part consists of my own interpretation of the poems which is based on Coleridge's concept of Imagination and Fancy described in his Biographia Literaria. The third part deals with the problems that arouse from the attempt to translate the poems into Czech, which is mainly the matter of Czech iambic verse. A brief historical outline of its usage is presented, as well as the prominent translatological strategies, i.e. the use of dactylic incipits and feminine endings. There is also a...

Kotšmídová, Alena ; Mravcová, Marie (advisor) ; Heczková, Libuše (referee)
This bachelor degree thesis deals with various forms of disillusion and maturing in novels "Santa Lucia", "Ivův román" and "Stříbrný vítr". All three books are considered to be novels of disillusion and maturation. On example of main characters, the thesis shows the impulses leading to constitution of illusion, the reason for disillusion formation, the course of disillusion formation and the results of disillusion itself. Although all three novels could be classified as novels of disillusion and maturation, they differ from traditional form of storyline. There is also a dissimilarity among their main characters and composition. Apart from interpretations of disillusion of the characters, the thesis also contains comparative chapters, in which the parallels and differences between characters are drawn. At the same time, comparation enables us to point out the change in thinking, which has taken place between the end of nineteenth and the beginning of twentieth century. This change is noticeable in different way of solving similar problems and it determines the difference between two generations of the Czech moderna. key words: the novel of disillusion, illusion, disillusion, emotions, imagination

The development of art and its attitude to society in work of Friedrich Nietzsche and Theodor Adorno
Váňová, Veronika ; Holeček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Paulíček, Miroslav (referee)
1 Abstract Friedrich Nietzsche's work is interwoven with his idea that all art is formed by two deities, the two elements, Apollonian and Dionysian. Apollonian element, the world of individuation is a beautiful picture and a dream world, Dionysian element, the world unity, is the thunderous roaring tone music. Top art was in the form of Greek tragedy, it was perfect harmony of both elements. The art was at that time, the most perfect from all its parts of development. However, there have been thoughts, uncomprehending beauty of both forces and wanted to destroy them. All aspects of life events have been understood historically, critically, objectively, everything has been secular. Newly created form of the art, which can not be regarded as true art, because it lacks the elements of art, was called attic comedy. Contemporary culture is based on ideas that belong among others to Socrates and so it is called Socratic. Culture has the opportunity to recover and help the rebirth of true art, just listen Dionysus singing, which is already awake and must be just detected and informed. Theodor Adorno speaks about the mass society, which, through monopoly controls all that happens in it. The society is doing exactly what monopoly wants. Society is material, without imagination, the ability to experience, ability to...

Solution: I applied qualitative method of interviewing children about the read fairy-tale for my survey. Continually, I used the method of participant observation while monitoring the interest in artwork contained in books. Subsequently, children selected the favourite books. The method of participant observation was applied again in this part. Results: Through the realized survey, I found that a classic fairy-tale is an unsubstitutable element in children development. However, it must be presented in such a language form which is comprehensible for children. Illustrations accompanying the story are very useful. Author's fairy-tale affects children very significantly so it is necessary to choose topics of appropriate quality. Both types of fairy-tales are indispensable factors for proper development of intellectual, emotional and ethical part of child's character and they are interesting and stimulating for children.
