THE TRANSFORMATIONSOF THE RELATION BETWEEN AND READER AND BOOK IN THE YEARS 1990-2009

Bachelor thesis "The Transformations of the Relation between a Reader and a Book in the Years 1990-2009" aims to describe and clarify the development of book reading in the Czech Republic from post-revolution years to the present days with an extension to the 80s. Mapping of this subject-matter is based on an analysis of a range of readers' surveys which addressed the relation between a reader and a book, reading habits, behavior on the book market, libraries, preferred literary genres and authors etc. This thesis covers all these aspects. It also deals with international researches of reading literacy among teenagers (PISA). In the beginning it offers several readers typologies in search of the most suitable definition of a reader. It treats the significance of the book for human society and explains the changes on the book market since the fall of the communist regime. Then it characterizes sociological research and its requirements as well as its possible limits and deficiencies. The most extensive chapter describes individual readers' surveys, from information about how they were carried out to their most important findings which are then put into context. Interaciton between speech and motion of a schoolgirl with developmental dysphasia

Final work "Interaction between speech and motion of a schoolgirl with developmental dysphasia" is focusing on finding in which way are speech and movement skill interacting specifically in the case of a school-girl with serious developmental dysphasia. In its theoretical part I'm focusing at first on the term disturbed communication ability, development dysphasia, its symptomatology and then at the term verbal development dyspraxia. Important information concerning this dilemma are also listed in second chapter which focuses on the problem of reading, process of mastering of reading and writing with understanding. The third chapter of the theoretical part is focusing on characteristics of terms as movement, motoric acts, coordination and also dyspraxia. I based the practical part on testing of children of the third grade at usual basic school as well as at the basic logopaedia school, which is attended also by the school-girl with serious development dysphasia I've been observing and monitoring. I created two different tests. First about reading with understanding and then second one about movement abilities. Their goal was to find in which way are reading and movement abilities interacting. Books potential as resource of cognitive cultural capital: effects on educational attainment and socioeconomic status

The thesis The potential of books as a source of cognitive cultural capital: the impact on educational attainment and socioeconomic status deals with the socio-cultural phenomenon of reading that is understand as a cognitive skill whether is closely linked to the child's basic needs and habits of operating and learning. The aim of this study is to explore the mechanism of cultural activities (such as a specific type of cultural capital) that is shaped by family and school and forms the individual abilities of human beings. From this perspective it is determinate prerequisite for success in life. The theoretical part describes the life stages of reading with a clearly defined reading's habits and built up the relationship between child and book. Afterwards this part of thesis outlines the concept of cognitive cultural capital and summarizes the importance of external determinants for emergence and development of interest in reading. Contemporary condition of patient's libraries in hospitals and possibilities of their next development

This diploma thesis deals with the current state of libraries in hospitals for patients and their potential future development. At the beginning deals the work with patient's libraries in historical context. The following part introduces to communication processes in hospitals and bibliotherapy. An integral part of the work are evaluated data collected during the survey among hospital patients. End of the paper offers some solutions and directions in which the library for patients in hospitals could go in the future.
Acquisition of reading using alternative methods and problems of minority groups

This master`s thesis deals with a topic of literacy and mainly with teaching reading. The research phase of this thesis defines literacy, minority groups, teaching reading methods and acquisition of reading skills. The practical part is based on a long term research under the authority of the Czech Science Foundation between 2009 and 2011. The thesis describes only one part of the research namely in the Hanspaulka primary school in Prague. The research deals with readiness of children for learning reading in the beginning of schooling when the phonics approach is being applied. The level of reading ability of children at the end of the first class was compared. The level of the relation between the good or the risk readiness for reading and the reading level at the end of the first class of primary school was being examined.
Development of literacy using the RWCT methods

The thesis comprehends the topic of reading literacy development using methods of Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking (RWCT) at the first stage of primary education. The background of RWCT program is described in the first part of the thesis, along with defining the field of reading literacy. Several methods of the program are more thorougly analyzed, including their positive impact on development of the individual aspects of reading literacy. The research part examines the possibility of various constituents of reading literacy to be developed using RWCT methods, and the circumstances that have to be met in order to achieve it. The main focus of analysis lies in the benefits of reading workshop technique, and its application in overall development of reading literary and reading itself.

This thesis focuses on general questions of speech ontogeny, it presents an overview of the ontogeny as a sub-discipline and describes the development of speech and language of an individual. The thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical part and research. The theoretical part provides a general description of speech ontogeny and related sciences. It also includes the outline of stages of speech and language development. The thesis deals with biological factors, social environment and family environment important for speech and language development. It also deals with vocabulary related with speech and language development. The research part describes the relationship between reading and the extent of vocabulary, focusing on pupils of secondary schools, aged 12-14.
Classic and authorial fairy tale in kindergarten

Aim: My thesis shall reveal which form of fairy-tales is the favourite one for preschool children. My effort is to find out which styles of fairy tales children return to. Solution: I applied qualitative method of interviewing children about the read fairy-tale for my survey. Continually, I used the method of participant observation while monitoring the interest in artwork contained in books. Subsequently, children selected the favourite books. The method of participant observation was applied again in this part. Results: Through the realized survey, I found that a classic fairy-tale is an unsubstitutable element in children development. However, it must be presented in such a language form which is comprehensible for children. Illustrations accompanying the story are very useful. Author's fairy-tale affects children very significantly so it is necessary to choose topics of appropriate quality. Both types of fairy-tales are indispensable factors for proper development of intellectual, emotional and ethical part of child's character and they are interesting and stimulating for children. Benefits of the thesis: The results of the thesis allow organizing and realizing activities in nurseries in a way that is suitable and valuable for children. It shows the way how to handle the fairy-tale genre within education for preschool children.
Message of magic fairy tales for contemporary children

The work focuses on how children are introduced to magical fairy tales. It examines what message children take from such fairy tales and how useful the tales are to them. The theoretical part deals with a fable as a unique literary genre and analyses its deeper division. The work captures the emergence of fairy tales associated with previously negative concept and furthermore the ways in which we can introduce children to a fairy tale. The authors analyse whether a fairy tale has a deeper meaning and a psychological effect on a child. The practical part consists of a research, conducted in the form of interviews, the aim of which is to find out how children understand fairy tales if they are read to them and which considers several issues. Children are asked questions in a way they understand so that they can answer them accurately. During the interviews, children share their observations, impressions and feelings they experienced while listening to the fairy tale. In another part of the research, children are asked to imagine and draw themselves as one of the characters, making it possible to carry out a comparison and to answer one of the questions: "Which of the characters in the fairy tale would you like to be?" The work summarizes the world of magic as seen through the eyes of a child, as well as the attitude which the child has in respect to these tales.
