Pejšová, Petra ; Vaska, Marcus ; Schöpfel, Joachim ; Fürstová, Iveta ; Polčák, Radim ; Mach, Jan ; Frantíková, Bohdana ; Karlach, Petr ; Dolanský, Jindřich ; Svoboda, Martin
The book Grey Literature Repositories provides information about the concept of grey literature, its development, types, and producers in the European context, with a focus on the Czech Republic. The example of the National Repository of Grey Literature, practically implemented in the National Technical Library, is given to illustrate how such a repository may be built. The most important factors in the success of such project are cooperation and legislation. The book presents the components necessary to construct a repository from a practical viewpoint, namely analysis, selection and implementation of software, creation of the metadata format and audit of repository credibility.

Application of metadata in business intelligence systems
Andrle, Ondřej ; Pour, Jan (advisor) ; Omacht, Jiří (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on metadata as important means which are able to stop a trend of increasing costs of development, operation and maintenance of decision support systems -- Business Intelligence. The theoretical part of the thesis is elaborated based on such assumption. Its goal is to produce an extensive analysis of the term metadata -- starting with a general definition of the term, then dealing with the categorization and analyzing the issues and benefits. Further on, the term metadata management is discussed as well as metadata repository which is the key element of metadata solutions. The aim of the practical part of the thesis is to analyze the selected commercial metadata management solutions and answer the question whether there is currently a suitable comprehensive solution which would suit the needs of a chosen financial institution, Komerční banka. Furthermore, another question is discussed in the thesis and that is if a suitable solution is to either purchase a commercial solution or decide for own development. The analysis in both parts of the thesis, theoretical and practical, is mainly based on foreign sources, above all articles by specialists in the area of data warehousing, and numerous consultations with an expert on metadata from Komerční banka, Mr. Jiří Omacht.
CERIF - Common European Research Information Format: An Introduction
Dvořák, Jan
CERIF (Common European Research Information Format) is the model of the research domain. It includes the base entities of Publication, Project, Funding, Person, Organization Unit, and many others. Every entity instance can have any number of type or subject classifications. The facts are kept in temporally bound, role-based M:N relationships between entities in the model. Both roles and types are kept in the Semantic Layer that allows for formal syntax and declared semantics. Text attributes can have values in multiple languages. CERIF has been recommended by the European Commission as the standard for building CRISs (Current Research Information Systems). The stewardship of the data model has been entrusted to euroCRIS, the not-for-profit non-government association of research information management professionals.

CDS Invenio for National Repository of Grey Literature: transition to version 1.0rc0
Müller, Tomáš
Until the beginning of the year 2011, the National Repository of Grey Literature used the system CDS Invenio, version 0.99.1 as its digital repository. At the end of the year 2010, CERN released CDS Invenio, version 1.0 release candidate 0. This version has so many useful features for NRGL, that we decided to take that brave step and introduce this still testing version into the main run.

Archiving of digital photos and SW testing
Lubojacký, Roman ; Šedivá, Zuzana (advisor) ; Žid, Norbert (referee)
With growing number of digital photos, there are also growing problems with archiving. The aim of the work is to create a compact review about possibilities of archiving and along with it to test and choose the most proper application software for its administration. The first part of the work is focused on chosen technologies, which are used in archiving. The second part of the work is dealing with testing and comparing three programs for administration of photos, based on chosen criterias. Benefit of the work is in summarizing problems of archiving digital photos with ranking of the most proper possibilities.
Metadata and searching information on the Internet
Hlaváčová, Tereza ; Sklenák, Vilém (advisor) ; Pinkas, Otakar (referee)
The aim of this work is to analyze the relationship of metadata and searching on the Internet. In the first part are presented metadata, namely meta tags, metadata schemas and two related projects - digital libraries and the Semantic Web. In the second chapter is introduced the history and development of the Internet search engines. Two search engines are analyzed in detail: Google and Seznam - especially their history, development and how they evaluate pages. The last part is devoted to the summary of the importance of metadata for searching on the Internet and possible future development of digital libraries and the Semantic Web.
GL Transparency: Through a Glass, Clearly
Jeffery, Keith G. ; Asserson, Anne
GL (Grey literature, interpreted here as grey objects) is very heterogeneous in content, form and quality. Most GL objects evolve through a workflow. Some of these phases involve some form of evaluation or peer review, commonly internal within the management structure of an organisation and possibly involving external advice, including from ‘friendly peers’ via an e-preprint mechanism. Unlike white literature the evaluation process commonly is unrecorded and undocumented. This leads to accusations that grey literature lacks quality and transparency.
