The Reflection of Edvard Beneš in The Czechoslovakian Press in the Selected Periods of 1948-1988
Svatoš, Jiří ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Groman, Martin (referee)
In my diploma thesis I came to the conclusion that the frequency of mentions about Edvard Beneš fluctuated in the monitored media. From the examined periods, Rudé právo, Lidová demokracie and Svobodné slovo most often wrote about him in 1968 (a total of 37 mentions), in 1958 there were 32 mentions and in 1978 and 1988 there were 25 mentions. On the contrary, in sum of all the examined periods, there were only a few mentions in some years - for example, in 1983 there were 4 mentions, in 1948 there were 8 mentions and in 1973 there were 10 mentions. Rudé právo most often wrote about Edvard Beneš (96 references in all), in Svobodné slovo 47 and in Lidová demokracie 37. This can be explained by the fact that during the Communist regime Rudé právo had more pages than the other two newspapers and it also paid more attention to politics. In the researched media, Edvard Beneš was most often mentioned in connection with the February coup d'état anniversaries. In the qualitative analysis, I came to the conclusion that the studied newspapers mostly wrote about Edvard Beneš neutrally (57 percent of all mentions), negative references were 35 percent, and 8 percent were positive. During the 1950s, the analysed media was mostly critical to Edvard Beneš. However, in 1963 I noticed 50 percent of neutral references....
Transformations of Miloš Forman's media image in contemporary press
Řápek, Jan ; Šobr, Michal (advisor) ; Novotný, David Jan (referee)
This master's thesis is devoted to the changes of Miloš Forman's media image, more precisely how period press noticed both his career and work. Miloš Forman is the most acknowledged and most famous czech film director. His story is connected with story of czech cinematography and story of its changes. The thesis wants to find out, why Forman wasn't destroyed even though he left the country, despite his emigration. It is trying to prove that his media image never been strictly negative and Forman itself never became taboo. Forman's person is beyond all standards. He is proof, that if the work is not strong crtitical against regime, it arouses respect despite all the ideology. He was reflected in the various stages, but still in relatively good light. The thesis examines the perception of the media in three life stages: work in Czechoslovakia before going to the United States, working abroad and finally after the Velvet Revolution. Although Forman has participated in many films, thesis focused only on his feature-length work. And because Miloš Forman is a person who transcends the borders of Czechoslovakia, or the Czech Republic, media abroad reflected his career as well, althought the view there was slightly different from the domestic one.

Abstract This master's thesis maps the development of advertising in the Czech press during the First Republic, specifically between 1927 and 1937, on the example of two illustrated weeklies - Pestrý týden and Prague Illustrated Newsletter. It looks at the period under review in the context of the country's economic situation, social settings and lifestyle, where the middle classes have formed the country's economic and social balance, helping to bring new products to mass consumption. Pokorný, Jiří ; Emler, David (advisor) ; Smetana, Vít (referee)
The theme of the bachelor thesis is the influence of the 1936 Summer Olympic Games on the foreign policy of Nazi Germany and its image in the international community. The thesis aims to verify whether the Nazis managed to use the Olympic Games to improve the image of Nazi Germany abroad and then to leave the unfavorable foreign policy position in which it was located. The bachelor thesis is divided into two well-arranged parts, in the first one the author deals with the starting position of Germany in the international community and his foreign policy before the Olympic Games. In addition, in this section he deals with the Olympic Games themselves. In the second part, based on newspaper articles and an internal report produced by the Foreign Office, the author investigates the influence of the Olympic Games on the image of Germany abroad and later on its foreign policy. The Nazis sharply opposed the Olympics at a time when they were assigned to the fragile Weimar Republic as an award for their efforts to return the country to the cultural society of modern states. However, they realized in time what opportunity they had been given, and after joining the power they organized with great effort spectacular and, in many ways, progressive games that predetermined the direction the Olympic Movement would...

This bachelor thesis 'Media Portrayal of Czechoslovakia's Velvet Revolution in Czech Press' focuses on the period between November and December 1989. During this time, Czechoslovakia was undergoing a transformation. The focus is on the press of the time, specifically on Mlada Fronta, Rude Pravo, Lidova Demokracie a Svobodne Slovo. The introduction of the thesis is focused on the basic historic background and then each newspaper is introduced briefly. The main body of the thesis then analyses each newspaper, with focus on various articles related to the events around Velvet revolution and democratisation of the Czechoslovakian society. This thesis can offer an interesting insight into how particular media portrayed the events around Velvet revolution, how the media gradually went from censorship to freedom of speech and opened up for a political dialogue. The formation of current society and how media dealt with the new situation can be seen through the Czech press from the times of Totality.

Bednařík Štefl, Aneta ; Štoll, Martin (advisor) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee)
This thesis compares two selected editions of a programme journal Czechoslovakian Television Weekly, specifically years 1989 and 1990. This journal had been issued between years 1965 and 1990 and used to be one of the main sources of a television programme of the Czechoslovakian Television, which was daily watched in many households. Except for the television programme, the journal also dealt with society-wide questions and this made it even more attractive to readers. As a result there was no shortage of readers, nor viewers of the television. Thanks to the vast popularity among readers as well as a close link to the Czechoslovakian Television, the journal was one of the tools to influence the public opinion. The objective of this thesis is to analyze the level of influence of changing political-economical- social situation in Czechoslovakia to journal editions of years 1989 and 1990. After the theoretical foundations that guide readers to understand examined documents and society-wide circumstances, the thesis identifies sections of the journal that are relevant for the analysis and subsequently in the practical part introduces the analysis of relevant sections of the journal. For each section, there is an analysis of both examined editions of the journal and by comparing them is reached a...

The crucial part of the work is the analysis of selected periodicals, in which I`ve pointed out the most important articles, which have been published in connection with the intervention and subsequent occupation.
