Ethics of dialogue in the works of Michel Faber
Vizina, Petr ; Červenková, Denisa (advisor) ; Štica, Petr (referee)
The thesis analyzes ethical aspects of intercultural dialogue in the context of postsecular society and Western philosophy, as depicted in the novels and short stories of Dutch author Michel Faber. Analysis focuses on the theory of dialogue as presented in the works of Charles Taylor, Terry Eagleton, Olivier Roy and Ulrich Beck. The literary works of Michel Faber can be seen as examples of applying ethics in the context of personal and social narratives in contemporary culture. Faber does not proclaim his belief in Christianity; however, he works with religious motifs in the context of the postsecular situation of the globalized world, in which religion returns to take part in the public debate and affirmation of its legitimacy. Faber respects the legitimacy of religion the ethics of otherness, typical of the characters in Faber's works, is therefore the ethics of relationship quality, basic value orientation, and the search for the horizon of the meaning, which corresponds with the ethics of dialogue within the Christian tradition.

Emmy Destinn as a writer and composer
Matějková, Marie ; Saláková, Magdalena (advisor) ; Volavá, Iva (referee)
Emmy Destinn was the most famous Czech operatic soprano, who achieved fame in the whole west world. Not only did she engage in singing but also in writing and composing. Several pieces of work came out during her lifetime. This thesis deals with the output of the writer and composer Emmy Destinny with a brief description of her life at the beginning. A collection of poems called Sturm und Ruhe was published in German in 1902. Five years later another collection Der galante Abbé also in German followed. Only the first collection of poems is analysed in this thesis. Emmy Destinn also wrote several plays: Pod praporem umění, Dvojí hřích, Rahel, Tůně, U Cíle, Kruh měsíců a Nadarmo. For the lack of literature the plays are described only generally. During her engagement in the Berlin State Opera she was trying to finish a novel Pan doktor Casanova, which, however, ended as two unfinished versions of a description of life in the State Opera. Her most crucial work is the chronicle novel Ve stínu modré růže with a subtitle Román zašlých vášní, in which she is describing the Leonhardi dynasty, which owned the castle in a town Stráž nad Nežárkou. On top of that, Emmy Destinn wrote two short stories Mladá paní stará and Strom zrazené lásky, which were inspired by the lives of people living in the surroundings...
The Position od Graffiti in Czech Art After 1989
ZRNA, Adam
The senior thesis comprises a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part deals with the artistic expression of graffiti in Czechia after the year 1989 and its connection with the official Czech art. It describes graffiti as such and talks shortly about the roots of this phenomenon; both its birth in the US and its later spread across the Czech Republic. It mentions crucial moments in the development of graffiti and their reflections in the expression itself. It introduces the most important artistic personalities who were inspired by graffiti in their later work and thereby shifted significantly the position of graffiti in Czech art. The practical part contains the creation of a model of a statue inspired by graffiti together with its suggested placement in public space.
Vlasta Javořická and Two Totalitarian Regimes between 1938 and 1953. Municipal Chronicle of this Writer as an Ego-Document
BARTUŠEK, Petr
This paper deals with the problematic of ego-documents as historical sources. The following study is based on one example of these sources regarding the municipality of Studená during the first half of the 20th century. It is mainly focused on the local chronicle depicting the period of 1938-1949 written by the native of Studená and writer Vlasta Javořická. The important part of this work is an edition of this chronical completed with the comparaison with its almost identical copy. The chronical is characteristic of a noticable amount of specificities. It is predominantly an ego-document rather than an institutional and commemorative source. Through the analysis of local chronicles (ie. ego-documents) and the study of additional sources this paper aims to contribute among others to the theoretical problematic of the criticism of the historical sources. At the same time, it shall extend the existing findings regarding the study of the society and the reflection of some periods of the 20th century thanks to the official local chroniclers as well as the authors of different sources having a similar character. The main problematic of this paper is the question whether it is possible to fully use the ego-documents for the factual learning or rather for the research of the history of mentalities, dailyness, cultural and social history, ethnography, etc.
