Mirvald, Lukáš ; Stracený, Josef (advisor) ; Hauser, Michael (referee)
In my thesis I analyse the issue of democracy in antiquity. Research includes practice and theory. At the beginning I will focus on the analysis of the real functioning of democracy in the Athenian polis (how the idea of democracy arose, what were the political institutions, who had or did not have a share in the controlling of the polis etc.). Emphasis is placed on the history of Athens in the 6th to 4th centuries BC. The core of this chapter is the time of Pericles when Athenian democracy reached its peak. The second part of the thesis describes how democracy was viewed by leading ancient thinkers - Plato and his disciple Aristotle. One of the aims of this thesis is to understand their criticism of the democratic establishment and what alternatives governments offer as better. The third part of the thesis is a comparison between political reality in ancient Athens and political theory in the works of Plato and Aristotle.

Dubská, Hana
The thesis focuses on didactic and historical analysis of history textbooks used during the Communist totalitarian regime at secondary schools in Czechoslovakia republic between 1948-1989. The theoretical part consists of brief political development and development of education in Czechoslovakia in observed period. The practical part deals with the analysis and the comparison of textbooks from totalitarian and present era with emphasis on didactics and content. Textbooks were also focused on slavery issue, especially their hard life and described passed slave rebellions. This is most obvious in textbooks published in the 1950s. Keywords: history textbooks, antiquity, secondary school, communism, Czechoslovakia, education, 20th century

Ancient Greeks in Gaul
Patočka, Petr ; Kalfiřtová, Eva (advisor) ; Listíková, Renáta (referee)
The objective of the thesis is to briefly map the history of the French territory during the periods of relations with ancient Greece. Most of this work is dedicated to the South and South-East of France (in French known as the Midi), as the Mediterranean coastline of today's France was the main area to be colonized by the ancient Greeks. The first chapter introduces the prehistoric inhabitants of France before making contact with ancient Greece. The thesis focuses on the period which begins with the Grecian colonisation of southern Gaul and ends with its conquest by ancient Rome. Later development of the Midi is outlined in the final chapter. The topic of the history of France in antiquity was subject to many studies in the twentieth century, however, most of them have been forgotten. Therefore, I would like to "revive" some of these studies in my thesis. Keywords - France, antiquity, ancient Greece, Phocaea, Massalia
"...Zeus… of Iscariot" Transformations of concepts and depictions of classical mythology throughout art's history and it's transfer to new generations.
Šik, Jiří ; Čech, Viktor (advisor) ; Bláha, Jaroslav (referee)
In my thesis I focus on classical Greek mythology and its origins and meaning in the life of an individual. The thesis deals with its interpretations, understanding and treatment across various periods in the history of art and on the transformations of classical figures within new contexts, since the antiquity untill the present day. In the didactic part, I present my concept of an educational project intended to mediate the classical myths to the new generations, with the help of important works of Western art as the visual base. Realisation of this project has proven that stuends actualy are eager to learn this subject. The practical part of the thesis describes the potential of modern media for educational purposes and the spread of knowledge of classical mythology. It offers a draft of my educationally-artistic project in the Czech environment, which makes use of this potential. The series of paintings serves as the first step towards the creation of such project. Deepening of knowlidge of classical mythology is instrumental for growth of individual and with him of society. It would be short sighted to push this theme somewhere to the background and forget about it. After all, its representation in art only proves that it was allways source of inspiration.
