Contemporary Diet Culture in the light of Michel Foucault's Analyses
Muratova, Polina ; Váša, Ondřej (advisor) ; Švantner, Martin (referee)
(in English) Nowadays various formerly silenced topics have appeared under the spotlight of public's attention: specifically, mental health awareness has put forward body image concerns as being an incentive for most lethal forms of mental distress such as eating disorders. Despite body image issues are the subject of research for various academic fields, mainly psychology, this thesis attempts to study body image from a different point of view. That is in relation to contemporary diet culture; the thesis focuses on the application of Michel Foucault's theoretical concepts of disciplinary power and "care of the self" practice on the contemporary diet culture. Hence, discovery and review of diet culture controlling mechanisms that might be later internalized by individuals will be in the scope of this work, alongside with the study of diet culture discourse reinforced by influential YouTube content creators. Mainly, the thesis is focused on how dietary practices refer to disciplinary practices, conceptualized by Foucault, while, simultaneously, act as enabling for the subject, mimicking Foucauldian "care of the self" practices. Key words: Michel Foucault, diet, diet culture, care of the self, eating disorder, self- transformation.

Biskupová, Kateřina ; Sloboda, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Martinová, Marta (referee)
This thesis describes the relation between eating disorders and the patients' or their relatives' interpretation of family environment. The author aims to reveal differences in the educational philosophy applied in the upbringing of patients with mental anorexia or mental bulimia. First of all the terms "family environment" and "educational style" are defined using the Lewin typology. It is based on the assumption that mental anorexia is aligned with strict education causing strict behaviour when being on diet while mental bulimia is associated with less strict education reflecting itself in an imperfect compliance with the diet plan. The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis summarizes current knowledge of eating disorders with focus on social factors and family. The practical part is based on the author's own qualitative research based on an analysis of twenty narrative interviews with the patients, their mothers and one stepfather. Kaválková, Kristýna ; Kolářová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Ezzeddine, Petra (referee)
Eating Disorders from a gender perspective: disease, or part of life? Bc. Kristýna Kaválková ABSTRACT This dissertation deals with a problem of "eating disorders", which are defined in medical literature, media and magazines as psychological disease, which relates to pathological way of dealing with food, body and himself/herself. It shows that that this area is not neutral from the gender point of view; eating disorders are usually women's matter. Based on semi-structured interviews within the framework of qualitative research, this work analyses opinions of women, who have experience with this, especially their experience of their physicality and daily life. It is also focused on how women perceive the presentation of eating disorders, which concerns them, in media, medical publications and society and how they interpret their status as those who are recovering from this illness. Women's testimonies point at the fact that their surroundings look at them as persons defined through their illness, as persons, who are exclusively connected with pathology and stigma. This view of surroundings, media and specialists, however, omit the diversity of human identities. It shows that women alone can interpret their experiences in different way. They perceive their eating disorder in the context of dominant discourse...
Nursing Specifics in Paediatric Patients with Gastrostomy
POHLOVÁ, Světlana
Gastrostomy is one of the access routes enabling enteral nutrition support to children with eating disorders. It is a method of choice in situations where real assumption of enteral feeding by a nasogastric probe longer than six weeks exists and with undamaged functional digestive system. The possibility to perform enteral feeding outside health care facilities is the most advantageous aspect of gastrostomy for children and their parents. Optimum nursing care is one of the main preconditions of long term functional gastrostomy. This why suitable education of parents and their children in the nutrition support method is necessary. The aim of the work was to map awareness of the issues of gastrostomy in children patients among parents and to propose a unified educational programme aimed at easier insight into the issues. Qualitative research method was applied to the problems. The techniques of study of healthcare documentation and semi standardized interviews with respondents in their home environment were used for data collection. The results of the healthcare documentation studies, which defined the sample of the children with applied gastrostomy, were processed into graphic form for better transparency. The interviews with the respondents in the form of audio recording were transposed into written form and quantified by means of tables enabling the research conclusion to be drawn. The research results showed that practical training of gastrostomy treatment and awareness of possible complications and their solution was the weak point of the education. The above results have confirmed the necessity to elaborate a unique educational programme related to the issues of feeding tube insertion, the care for gastrostomy, support of food, medicines, and possible related complications in terms of learning the ability to prevent complications, identify and solve them.
