The aim of the thesis is to compare the system of social services in the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. The author's purpose is to focus on ongoing reforms of both systems and to analyze how successful they are in achieving their targets. Therefore, the main research method used in this work is the method of comparative analysis. The work finds out that Czech and Slovak enactments of social services have some common features. It is obvious that they are based on the common ground. They bring new precautions which should lead into an increase in quality of social services. These precautions can be mainly seen as positive, despite the fact that they have a few shortcomings. But the systems of social services have still lot of serious weak points. The economic inefficiency seems to be the main problem of the...

Špirková, Petra ; Potůček, Martin (advisor) ; Nekolová, Markéta (referee)
The thesis "Analysis of the influence of demographic development on employment and employment policy of elderly people in the Czech republic" focuses on the specific position of elderly people in the labour market. In the event of redundancy, they tend to be under threat of long- term unemployment more often and to a greater extent than other groups in the labour market. The thesis describes in detail the current state of employment of elderly people in the Czech Republic and the European Union with respect to demographic trends, which - in addition to other consequences - also have a strong impact on the labour market. The aim of the thesis is to determine the main obstacles preventing greater involvement of elderly people in the labour market in the Czech Republic, and the direction employment policy should take in order to achieve greater efficiency. The basic hypothesis of the thesis is the idea that the implementation of an active employment policy in the Czech Republic is not effective enough in solving the unemployment issues of the elderly. Using four theoretical frameworks, the main deficiencies of the currently implemented employment policy with respect to elderly people and the causes thereof are identified. Theoretical foundations are also applied in discussing possible solutions to the...

Potential of Social Capital for Rural Development
Skála, Vít ; Potůček, Martin (advisor) ; Kalous, Jaroslav (referee)
The topic of this thesis seems to be very actual and demanded. The active role of all the participants confirms it. It was proved the countryside has to solve a lot of serious problems. The mayors are those, who have to carry this burdens and responsibility for solutions. Nevertheless they don't have enough resources especially financial, personal and social to effectively solve the problems. Thus they are more under pressure of actual problems than on the place of strategic planning. Meeting this disappointing conditions there are some problems at some villages satisfactorily solved. The big role is assigned to active inhabitants, which have their own inner motivation not connected to any material reward. Building relationships with them and proclaiming proud that they are inhabitants of "our" village is one of the ways how to build social capital. The important is not to depress these people by huge bureaucracy. The LAGs should be a good organization for covering activity of such people. They can add some material resources and also strategic dimension to these activities. But the LAGs contribution to the municipalities' development was not unambiguously proved. There are not too big results of the LAGs in Czech Republic because of very short LAGs history over here. The actual policy at this area doesn't...
Work-family balance as a problem of social policy
Duškov, Ivan ; Potůček, Martin (advisor) ; Kotrusová, Miriam (referee)
The submitted text represents updated and extended version of my MA thesis "Work-Family balance: Solving Dilemma". The main objective of this paper is to present the results of empirical research and analyses of causes and consequences which affect and disturb straight-through connection between work (e.g. paid job) and family responsibilities (especially childcare). In the theoretical part of this paper was used a theory of the welfare state, the equal opportunity theory (especially between men and women) and the concept of human potential. Culture and gender stereotypes are probably the most considerable causes of difficult reconciling work and family duties. Some of the EU member states altogether with the Czech Republic are still keeping so-called breadwinner model, which maintain traditional status between women and men in the society. According to this model women are mainly responsible for childbearing, childcare and household keeping while men should care about economical aspect of family life. An analysis has shown close-knit connection between type of welfare state, welfare state policies and relevant implications on the field of work-family balance and quality of life. Liberal, Traditional and Latin type of welfare state are characterized by low rate of women employment, gender inequality, low...

UNIVERZITA KARLOVA V PRAZE FAKULTA SOCIÁLNÍCH VĚD Institut sociologických studií Užívání nelegálních drog z pohledu aktérů české drogové politiky Perspectives on Illicit Drug Use in the Czech Republic Abstrakt / Abstract Studijní program: Sociologie Studijní obor: Veřejná a sociální politika Autor: Mgr.

My diploma thesis was focused on evaluation of degree of success of project "Education of Humanities at BUT" within a scope of Operational Programme Human Resources Development 2004 - 2006 implementation. I presupposed from formulation of the paradigms using theoretical concepts of public policy, education and management to practical analyses Project phases. I put the cardinal emphasis on the implementation phase, which I remeted to research. I evaluated the Project implementation as extraordinary successful on the base of outputs of expert interwiews, focus group and questionnaire within a scope of the research. I tried to compare this Project with another one, similar project settled in any other Member Strate of the European Union. I reached that similar projects in other Member States have not been realized, the only comparable one was Portugese Project in the programming period 1994 - 1999 focused on increasing competitivness of students of high schools. This finding led to conclusion that the Project realized at BUT was unique and its successful realization could be considered as a leading case in the area of Structural Funds of the European Union in the Czech Republic.

Kopečný, Ondřej ; Potůček, Martin (advisor) ; Novotný, Vilém (referee)
Diploma thesis Transformations of the European Welfare State under the Pressure of Globalization focuses on transformation of social policies in European countries which are caused by globalization. The thesis considers welfare state in the broader sense of the human rights. It assumes that the welfare state have played important role not only when protecting the social rights of an individual but also regarding the economic and political stability of the society. While analyzing the relations of globalization and welfare state the thesis relates to the theory of decomodification and related Esping-Andersen's typology of the three basic welfare regimes. Regarding the transformations of the welfare state the thesis focuses not only on changes caused by globalization in the economic field, but it also analyses the processes in society and political systems which have also very strong influence on the shape of the social system. At the close the thesis concentrates on how the changes in the economy, society and political system influence specific welfare regimes and to which extend do they support the process of recomodification of social rights. The work has the ambition to capture a more comprehensive view, which does not perceive the welfare state as a passive victim of (economic) globalization but...
