Immersion into Spirit and Fire: Exegesis Mt 3:1-12
Perner, Jan ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
The purpose of the thesis is to try to suggest an understandable translation of the text of Matthew 4:1-12 focusing on the secondhalf of the eleventh verse which is the top of the whole part. It deals with the appearance of John the Baptist in the desert. The most important part of his speech is the description of coming Messiah. The character of Messiah described by words "that one, who..." brings some problems in understanding , especially tthe function of initation. The work tries to describe it analytically and find a solution. Except for exegesis of this text, there is the view of new testament on baptism in general, the baptism in Holy Spirit, and baptism by fire including the description of some ways and opinions. The thesis looks for resources in modern commentaries and biblical lexicons, and also it compares other passages from bible with this topic, and last but not least, there is given my own view of understanding the text. In the last part there is a summary of the whole topic and some application for the church of today. It is possible to use it for Sunday service or for pastoral care in personal spiritual growth. The Interpretation of the Baptism by the Apostle Paul
Paluchník, Štefan ; Pokorný, Petr (advisor) ; Roskovec, Jan (referee) ; Brož, Jaroslav (referee)
The dissertation entitled as "The interpretation of the baptism by the apostle Paul" deals with the New Testament passages about the baptism written by the 4 apostle Paul - first of all in Romans 6 (§ 2). The clear reference to the baptism can be found in other passages of Paul (Gal, 1 Cor, 2 Cor, Col, Eph and Titus), but there are less clear texts as well (§ 3). Chapters (§) 2 and 3 are crucial for the investigation of the Paul's interpretation of the baptism. The second task covers the investigation of the relation between the faith confession in 1 Cor 15,3 and the procedure of the Christian baptism: coming down (water, grave) and coming up (death - life) according to the proposition of Petr Pokorný (the baptism as the sign of Christ ascent). The exegetical and the theological analyzes is used in both tasks. The results of the investigation are summarized in the closing chapter (§ 7): (a) Based on the exegetical work we can see that the text in Romans 6,1-11 represents the core passage (locus classicus) for the understanding of the baptism by the apostle Paul. This is the oldest New Testament evidence about the execution of the baptism. This text stores the oldest Christian tradition echoing the tradition of the Gospel in 1Cor 15.3. The model of the baptism by ap. Paul is included in texts: Gal 3,26-27; 1...
The word of cross. Meaning of the motive of cross in the parenetic context of 1Cor 1,10 - 2,5
Tomeš, Jiří ; Roskovec, Jan (advisor) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee)
Thesis Word of the Cross: Significance of the Cross mofit in the peneretic context. 1. K 1,10-2,5 deals with the New Testament also discusses briefly about its author, the choir, which is the addressee. In the main section on the biblical section concerns the relation of the first section, which bears the name "The division in the congregation" (which is a division of the local church) with the rest of the text, where it is a cross, which is foolishness to those who go to perdition, but wisdom and power of God for the chosen ones. The apostle Paul shows that argument on two examples in which the Church itself, with not many noble, powerful and wise in it, but who are nevertheless chosen, which is a shame for many. The second example is the weakness in performance and fear. So preached the gospel to the cross of Christ through wisdom did not lose sense. The apostle Paul warns that the reliance on human (celebrities), his wisdom, personality and rhetorical art does not make sense, because only through the cross, which is foolishness to man, can stand on the path to salvation. Athletae Christi. Early Christian Hagiography between Imitation and Rewriting
Kitzler, Petr ; Bažil, Martin (advisor) ; Pokorný, Petr (referee) ; Šubrt, Jiří (referee)
ANGLICKÁ ANOTACE (= předběžná náplň práce) Passio Perpetuae and Its Reflection in the Literature of Ancient Church The "Passion of Perpetua and Felicity" (Passio Perpetuae et Felicitatis) is one of the most renowned texts of early Christian hagiography. Accordingly, it has been enjoying a renewal of scholarly interest in the last decades. However, surprisingly little attention was paid to its literary "Nachleben", and there exist virtually no studies focusing on its reception in the subsequent literature of the early Church. Seemingly simple narrative, describing the martyrdom of a group of North African Christians, has been held in high esteem since its composition. It acquired almost "canonical" status and was considered authoritative not only by the mass of simple believers but by the Christian intellectuals, too. Though highly venerated in the early Church, it contained a number of innovative and - in the context of Antique and early Christian society - potentially subversive features. These novel features were felt to undermine the existing social order and hierarchy, and it was necessary to "explain them away" in order to make the text more compliant with traditional and generally accepted social values. This was then often taken into account, when later authors and interpreters refer to the text. The...

Krajinna raného středověku a její změny s nástupem kolonizace
Kozáková, Radka ; Pokorný, Petr (advisor) ; Latalowa, Malgorzata (referee) ; Svitavská - Svobodová, Helena (referee)
Landscape transformation that occurred during the Middle Ages in western and central Europe is reflected in all pollen diagrams. An event that was so striking and widespread was used by Firbas to distinguish a biostratigraphical period called the Younger Subatlantic (zone X; Firbas 1949). High Medieval landscape transformation is connected with rapid colonization in our area that resulted in extensive deforestation and intensified agriculture. During the first half of the 13th century, the settlement network was already stabilized and was very similar to the current state and was reaching also mountain areas (Klápště 1994). New organization and changes in land ownership, as well as a need for more effective agriculture, resulted in the connecting of small fields into larger ones and in an increase of cultivated area (Klápště 2006). The use of the land was different, and for the first time complete (Bakels 2009). During a few centuries anthropogenic factors that were enormously enhanced throughout the 13th century, formed a cultural landscape that was much more similar to the landscape of today than to the landscape of, for instance, the 9th century. This doctoral thesis is focused on the Early Medieval landscape in the Czech lands and its transformation that culminated during the 13th and 14th...

Historical Jesus as Messiah. The presuppositions of Christology in the historical Jesus.
Ficzere, Tamás ; Pokorný, Petr (advisor) ; Roskovec, Jan (referee) ; Ryšková, Mireia (referee)
The following doctoral thesis Historical Jesus as a Messiah is aimed at the question of Jesus' Messianism. It contributes to a broad field of study that has at its core this theme and that tries to unravel the unsatisfactory answer if Jesus from Nazareth (or "historical Jesus") considered himself during his earthly life a Messiah. Is it interesting to note that the early Christians, right after Jesus' death, professed him their Lord and Messiah. This "title", which is soon used in relation to Jesus, becomes in its Greek form (Cristo,j - "anointed") Jesus' personal name and Christians recognize as their Messiah Jesus Christ. If we realize that the earthly Jesus never used this title as a self attribution, it remains unclear why it played such an important role for the followers of Jesus. The question of why they did not title him "Son of man" arises. As far as that goes, this is the title earthly Jesus identified with. But the decision of the first Christians, who understood Jesus to be God's messenger and a Messiah, has to have a foundation; it cannot merely be an "overvaluation" of his mission. The question remains: why did Jesus hesitate to identify himself as a Messiah? Even though he never said it about himself, we can trace in the synoptic gospels' indications to let us affirm the statement that the...
Web Conference Calendar
Pokorný, Petr ; Vyskočil, Tomáš (advisor) ; Zavoral, Filip (referee)
A scientific article can only be submitted to one conference. The purpose of this work is to create a web application which will aid in determining where a given article can still be submitted, using mainly a graphical diagram. The text itself first provides a detailed specification of the problem, then it discusses the choice of individual technologies and the general implementation approach. The following section then briefly describes some implementation details and suggests areas for expansion of the project. The last chapter is dedicated to technical and licensing considerations. The result of the work is a working web application designed for use in academic circles and for further refinement.
