Persuasive Language Used in Presentations by Information Technology Students

The aim of this thesis is to frame the concept of rhetoric and persuasive language. The thesis begins with a rhetorical analysis and defines the rhetorical situation. It also provides the information about the art of persuasion, its history and use. A survey of characteristic persuasive devices constitutes a fundamental part of the thesis which deals not only with the use of persuasive language structures but also with specific vocabulary. The analytical part of the thesis converts theory into practice through a detailed analysis and comparison of persuasive devices used in presentations by information technology students. It focuses on persuasive techniques like emotive emphasis in speech, using personal pronouns, linking signals, triples, and flattery.
Popularisation of Science in the Czech Republic

The Bachelor´s thesis deals with the theme of popularisation of science. The aim of this thesis is to determine the subjects dealing with popularisation of science and to discover the public awareness of the topic. The first part of the thesis focuses on the definition of the term popularisation of science. In the second part the difference between learning of an adult and a child is discussed. The third part shows the subjects of popularisation of science and the following chapter, which is based on a questionnaire, describes the specific knowledge of the inhabitants of Brno and its surroundings about the possibilities of popularisation of science. The final chapter is devoted to the creation of a popularising and educational program concerned with the topic of electricity and magnetism.
Narrative in Computer Games

This Bachelor’s thesis deals with an issue of a narrative in computer games. In the introductory chapters, general games specifications, such as rules and genres of the games, are formulated. The main focus is then on linear and interactive forms of the narrative and on the means they are most frequently represented by. The practical part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis of two selected games, focusing on the narrative means used and on the way they influence the game’s linearity and interactivity. For each game, a storyline scheme is created on whose basis a narrative structure of the game is determined.
Digital graphics: Painting

The aims of the bachelor‘s thesis are to frame the concept of digital painting, its hardware and software requirements and to describe tools and techniques of digital painting. The first chapter deals with general concepts of aesthetics in traditional and computer art, provides a historical survey of the evolution of digital art and establishes the concept of metamodernism in art. In the second chapter, art techniques both digital and traditional are described and supported by examples according to painting styles and art movements. The question of expressing emotions in digital painting and psychology of image perception are explained from a digital and traditional artist’s viewpoint. Moreover, the role of the computer in a creating process is determined. The third chapter focuses on the non-photorealistic rendering method of creating artwork in an abstract stylisation style on the ground of the Stylize editor and the manual for this editor (beginner level) is provided as well.
Dialects of English in computer games

This bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of the English dialects that appear in video games. Its aim is to analyze the use of different dialects in the Grand Theft Auto game series. The theoretical part is focused on providing the necessary concepts related to sociolinguistics, varieties of the language, dialects, accents, and game industry. The practical part is focused on the linguistic analysis of the English dialects that appear in the GTA game series. This analysis identifies game characters' dialects from a grammatical and phonological perspective and explains the reasons that led game developers to choose those dialects.
Characteristic of ESP written communication

The goal of this bachelor thesis is to define what the English for Specific Purposes is, its styles and genres. This thesis is divided into three main parts. In the first part, ESP and its history briefly presented. The styles of ESP are brought up and their uses explained. In the second part I defined the genres of ESP, explained purpose of each and further division. In the third part, examples of the textbook and popular scientific article are extracted, presented, analyzed, and compared. The texts chosen for analysis are from the field of electrical engineering and medicine. The analysis and comparison are carried out in four categories: cohesion, deixis, signposting and hedging. Firstly, the styles in the same field are compared, and secondly the similarities and differences between the fields are presented. All the results are commented on.
Floating cities - intriguing concept or utopia (literary and information search study)

This thesis presents and explains the technologies associated with the construction and usage of floating cities, and related projects in South Korea, Singapore, and Japan. The next goal is to understand the potential impact of floating cities and coastal defences on the surrounding environment, and vice versa. With multiple projects such as Oceanix city and Green Float still in their early phase, it is necessary to consider whether the problems of coastal communities can be solved by such technologies, and if it is achievable at all, considering the financial circumstances, and possible limitations by used materials. Finally, by summing up the accessible information, the conclusion determines the reasons such structures are not a widely popular solution yet.
The language of EU legal documents

In this thesis, I have described and analysed characteristic features of legal language of EU documents by using specific examples of EU regulations on science and technology. The use of specific, concrete examples in EU regulations on science and technology can be beneficial for understanding other regulations and similar legal documents. In this thesis, I have explained what special features there are in European Union legal documents and shown examples of such features.
Discourse analysis of language of tabloids

In this thesis, various levels of language analysis are described. Lexical, grammatical, and stylistic levels as well as aspects of language such as cohesion, coherence and context are included. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first, theoretical part, provides an overview of more general information concerning discourse analysis, mainly theoretical information with examples. The provided information is useful when analysing the language of tabloids themselves later. An insight into mass media’s history and its types is present. The second, practical part of the thesis, analyses the language of the online versions of tabloid newspapers Daily Mail and The Sun. Their appearance and layout are briefly described. Chosen aspects of each language analysis level are shown and explained on examples from the mentioned newspapers.
