Key Differences Between Japanese and Western Video Games

This thesis is aimed to find the differences as well as similarities of video game design elements to emphasize how different cultures prioritize various aspects of a role-playing game. The differences between Western and Japanese role-playing games illustrate how cultural aspects impact the game development process. The theoretical section of this thesis focuses on the basic principles of Japanese art forms and aesthetics which are the factors behind the current styles in contemporary Japanese game art. The distinct character of Japanese games in comparison to Western-style video games is described as well as the reasons leading to these differences. Three RPG games are compared and analyzed regarding user interface, graphic design and character attributes.
Commented translation of a text on science and technology

The main aim of the bachelor thesis is mainly the translation of the professional text with the emphasis on the used terminology. The chosen text is about microwaves and processing of these waves using computer systems. The paper consists of two principal parts: the first one focuses on above mentioned translation whereas the second one is dedicated to the detailed linguistic analysis. The analytical framework covers all important linguistic disciplines and presents excerpts directly from the text. These excerpts are then compared, and the correctness of the language features usage is gradually verified using citations from quality resources and dictionaries.
Supercapacitors for Energy Storage

This bachelor thesis focuses on problematics of supercapacitors. The first chapter deals with principles of operation of a supercapacitor. The basic principle, used materials and main advantages and disadvantages are described. Furthermore, are described applications of a supercapacitor technology in various branches of industry. The following chapter outlines another type of energy storage also with their advantages and disadvantages, what is more, a brief table comparing main parameters is presented. The last chapter focuses on the theoretical design of supercapacitor module.
Commented Translation: Measurements in Electrotechnics and Audiotechnics

The concern of this thesis is a commented translation of an instructional text used in university courses Measurement in Electrical Engineering and Measurement in Audio Engineering. The translation was created for the use of future foreign students attending said courses. The commentary puts forth the reasoning behind the motivation to carry out the translation, views and theories applied during the translation process, encountered issues and their individual solutions, including specific examples, as well as a brief linguistic study of the text. In addition to the translation, this thesis describes the concept of glossaries that would accompany each set of instructions in the text. The final product of the translation is ready to be assessed to be an official study material.

In the 21 century, it is possible to speak about enormous growth of people using English daily in their lives. English has become a language used in the global sphere and it is used in all fields of interests including science, technology, economics, law or medicine. Each of this field has developed its own “branch” of English language with its specific features and genres. Although each of these fields of scientific style is completely different, the aim of this bachelor thesis is to investigate them and identify their typical genres, specific features and diversities among them, using texts from specialised books and journals.

This semester thesis is concerned with the problematic of automatic number plate recognition systems, their purpose, hardware and software features and the process of setting up a properly functioning automatic number plate recognition system. The topic is relatively new in the field of automation and therefore many challenges have to be dealt with. This thesis focuses on the aspects of a camera suitable for implementation into an ANPR system, the procedures and methods of number plate segmentation and extraction and the recognition of the characters present in a number plate. This thesis brings an insight view for those interested in innovations in automation and the challenges which are accompanied by the number plate recognition system functionality.

The thesis highlights the intricate nature of language, spotlighting that effective communication surpasses mere grammatical accuracy. It entails an understanding of context, the application of pragmatic strategies, and the adept use of assorted speech acts to achieve precise communicative objectives. Moreover, the thesis explores the concept of speech acts, their diverse types, and their multifaceted functions within distinct language styles, particularly within science and technology and popular scientific style. In the following segment of the thesis, the study delves deeper into specific speech acts commonly found in the realm of English in Electrical Engineering. These speech acts are the following: explication, exemplification, evaluation, argumentation, defining, concluding, and critiquing. As for the practical part of the thesis, it analyzes examples of technical and humanities texts which correspond to different speech acts, which were examined in the theoretical part.

The materials under investigation include technical and popular scientific texts on topics such as computer networks, algorithms, enzymes, and operating systems. The expected results of the study include a deeper understanding of the differences and similarities between technical and popular scientific texts in terms of their linguistic features and discourse functions, as well as insights into the professional context in which these texts are produced and consumed. By shedding light on the distinctive characteristics of professional discourse in the field of information technology, this study aims to contribute to the development of effective communication practices in this important and rapidly evolving field. Through a comprehensive review of relevant literature, this thesis shows that professional discourse in science and technology serves a range of functions, including conveying technical information, persuading others of scientific arguments, and promoting collaboration and innovation within scientific communities. The linguistic features and language strategies used in this discourse help to achieve these functions by providing precise, technical language that is often inaccessible to non-experts but critical for conveying complex scientific concepts accurately. Bakalářská práce shrnuje dostupnou literaturu o překladatelských technologiích. O historii strojového překladu se hojně hovoří a nabízí různé pohledy na strojový překlad z různých zemí. Hlavní přístupy ke strojovému překladu jsou uvedeny a u každého z nich jsou uvedeny příklady, jak fungují. Nejznámější strojové překladače jsou předvedeny. Je podán stručný přehled hodnocení překladů a mluví se o počítačem podporovaném překladu a různých nástrojích. Výhody a nevýhody těchto systémů jsou taktéž zpracovány. Posun v oblasti překladatelství je předveden. Na závěr je v praktické části ukázána potřeba lidského zásahu a post-editace do dnešních překladatelských technologií.
The Englishes - a survey of the world Englishes

This thesis analyzes history of English language in different countries, which are divided by Kachru’s model into three parts. In introduction General history of English spread through colonies is mentioned. Afterwards thesis is structured into three parts using Kachru’s model. First part is called “English as a native language.” In this part author describes history of English language in countries such as Great Britain, United States of America, Australia, and South Africa. Second part is called “English as a second official language,” and it describes history of countries to which English was brought by the colonizers. In this countries, varieties of English language are in close contact with native languages and are evolved depending on area. Parts of this category are countries such as India, Singapore, and Philippines. Third part is called “English as a foreign language” and lists countries in which English language is recognized as international means of communication or lingua franca. In this part author mentions brief history of English language in countries like Brazil and China. Last part of this thesis is conclusion in which author sums up the obtained knowledge of the topic and notes that this topic will be expanded in bachelors’ thesis
