Automated methods of textual content analysis and description of text structures

Universal Semantic Language (USL) is a semi-formalized approach for the description of knowledge (a knowledge representation tool). The idea of USL was introduced by Vladimir Smetacek in the system called SEMAN which was used for keyword extraction tasks in the former Information centre of the Czechoslovak Republic. However due to the dissolution of the centre in early 90's, the system has been lost. This thesis reintroduces the idea of USL in a new context of quantitative content analysis. First we introduce the historical background and the problems of semantics and knowledge representation, semes, semantic fields, semantic primes and universals. The basic methodology of content analysis studies is illustrated on the example of three content analysis tools and we describe the architecture of a new system. The application was built specifically for USL discovery but it can work also in the context of classical content analysis. It contains Natural Language Processing (NLP) components and employs the algorithm for collocation discovery adapted for the case of cooccurences search between semantic annotations. Information model of society

The first part of this paper refers to main streams in defining the term information for the purpose of information science and states its own definition flowing from the aspect of informativness. Information is understood in its relationship to meaning, as something which points or refer to something else. Also the terms data and meaning are discussed. The second part of this paper presents the philosophical view of society and world based on the terms defined above. The view corresponds to the thoughts of some famous personalities of information science and philosophy and displays some threats of the culture held by media.

Transmitted means of communication in history

Cílem této bakalářské práce je popsat vývoj vybraných přenosových prostředků komunikace v historii. Práci lze rozdělit na dvě části, ve kterých se postupně setkáváme s různými přenosovými prostředky. První se věnuje optickým telegrafním systémům od antiky přes pochodňové telegrafy do poloviny 17. stol. Druhá část je zaměřena na vyspělé telegrafy R. Hooka (1635-1703), C. Chappeho (1763-1805), A. N. Edelcrantze (1754-1821), G. Murraye (1761-1803). U přenosových prostředků je hlavně zkoumáno: dosah komunikace, její důvod, rychlost a utváření komunikačních sítí.

The proposal of the bachelor study program for information professionals

Creating an optimal bachelor study program for information professionals is the main topic of this thesis. This program should reflect the needs of Czech information society, be international and fulfill the requirements of the Bologna declaration, be based on the opinions of professional bodies and guarantee employability for its graduates. Work methods used were identifying key Czech and foreign materials and their analysis and evaluation, researching graduates and creating a new study program project. Analysis of the development of the Czech information society and its opportunities creates the preface of this thesis. The analysis of the European dimension of the topic has been made in the thesis. It is based on the Bologna declaration and its influence on the European Higher Education Area and higher education in the Czech Republic. The analysis of key competencies of information professionals has been made in the thesis as well. The approaches of chosen professional bodies (ALA, SLA, CILIP) have been analyzed and evaluated to optimize both the new program and the experiences of partner universities (Metropolitan Manchester University and Fachhochschul Burgerland). Self-evaluation in primary schools practice

This work deals with the topic of evaluating Czech schools. Its main focus area is the own evaluation of primary school, which is nowadays becoming inseparable part of school life. The theoretical part is devoted to the investigation in quality, control, signs of successful school, evaluation and self-evaluation. Besides this, it describes the plan and process of autoevaluation and does even avoid building of the corroborative system as necessary help to schools when implementing self-evaluation of the school from the practical point of view. The practical part checks, on the basis of the empirical research, ability of primary schools to realize the self-evaluation. The research is above all oriented to the process of autoevaluation in practice, it means the necessary conditions for the successful realization, evaluation areas, methods used, demandingness of the particular process phases and last but not least efficiency of using the gained results. The work ends with summary, some suggestions and recommendations.

The possible alternatives for influence of information technologies on the society evolution

Tématem práce je vliv informačních technologií na lidskou společnost a studium změn, které jsou s tímto procesem spojené. Klíčový význam je přisuzován kyberprostoru, jakožto logickému důsledku technického i společenského rozvoje. Na uvedenou problematiku je nahlíženo v prvé řadě z filozofického a sociologického pohledu. Cílem práce je naznačit globální pohled na směr nastoleného vývoje a poukázat na možné důsledky, k nimž může vést. Práce se věnuje obecným otázkám spojeným s nástupem informační revoluce, rozvojem informačních a komunikačních technologií, charakteristice kyberprostoru a kyberkultury, jakožto nových fenoménů informačního věku, a následně pak praktickým problémům v tomto novém prostoru. Těmi jsou například otázky svobody projevu a přístupu k informacím, vzdělávání, rizika sledování a manipulace, možnosti porušování práva, potřeby určitých společných rysů lidského jednání v prostředí kyberprostoru nebo také například potenciální budoucí participace všech jedinců na řízení státu. Samostatná kapitola je věnována i možným scénářům dalšího vývoje v širším měřítku. V závěru práce jsou pak uvedeny nej důležitější postřehy ze směru popisovaných trendů a zdůraznění zodpovědnosti každého člověka za nastolený vývoj.

The role of scientific information in psychology studies and psychology consulting

Tématem rigorózní práce je role odborných informací ve studiu psychologie a v poradensko- psychologické praxi. Cílem práce je analýza informačního chování studentů psychologie a poradenských specialistů, působících v praxi psychologických (dříve rodinných) poraden. Hlavní pozornost je zde zaměřena na informační potřeby studentů a poradenských profesionálů, jejich vztah k profesně orientovaným informačním zdrojům a problematiku přístupu k nim. První část práce slouží jako úvod do tématu a věnuje se vzájemnému vztahu informační vědy a psychologie jako vědních disciplín a jejich rozhraní. Další část je věnována informačním potřebám a metodám jejich průzkumu a navazuje na ni stěžejní analytická část práce. Analytická část je rozdělena do dvou oddílů. První je zaměřen na poradenské specialisty a druhý na studenty. V obou případech je formulována hypotéza, jejíž platnost je následně zhodnocena na základě zvolené metody průzkumu formou dotazníkového šetření. Závěry těchto šetření jsou zpracovány matematickými metodami a jsou z nich pořízeny grafické výstupy. Součástí práce je i specifikace vybraných zdrojů odborných informací. Závěrečná část obsahuje hodnocení informačního chování zúčastněných respondentů a jsou v ní vyvozeny závěry.

European Language Portfolio and its impact on teaching climate

The subject of thesis is the project of European Language Portfolio (ELP). The aim was to confirm the hypothesis that its use ln classes positively affects lesson climate . Experimental part connects to the previous climate research and avails quantitative and qualitative methods. Questionnaire and observation techniques revealed that the use of ELP mostly affects student s ' attitude towards learning and relationship between students and the teacher .
