Family life with a child with Down syndrome

The bachelor's thesis deals with four families of children with Down syndrome. The purpose of the theoretical part is to tell the readers basic information about Down syndrome. It's about history, origin, and forms are described in this study. Furthermore, the study addresses to prenatal diagnostic testing, people with Down syndrome and their characteristic features, families and social services supporting these families. The possibilities of educations are also mentioned in this study. The practical part is based on qualitative research and contains two research tools such as interviews and case studies. Case studies refer to the basic information of these people with Down syndrome, and interviews show what life with such a child looks like. Supporting inclusive environment using a literature storyline

This bachelor thesis deals with a literary story as one of the tools for supporting an inclusive environment. The theoretical part is dedicated to the inclusive environment and its' fundamental and important principles as well as to reading literacy, book clubs and RWCT method - "Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking". The research part examines pupils' preconceptions and their development after participating in the reading comprehension lesson, in which the pupils read a story about a boy with Treacher-Collins syndrome. This part of the thesis describes the preparation and realization of such a lesson and analyses its' data. The qualitative approach has been applied here. Based on the triple diaries that the pupils kept during the reading comprehension lesson, the individual statements were analyzed using the open coding technique. The aim of the practical part was to find out what preconceptions pupils have about a person with a visible disability who might become their potential classmate and how their thinking changed after the lesson. Teachers'attitudes towards mental hygiene in special school

This thesis deals with teachers' attitudes towards mental hygiene in a special primary school for pupils with severe and multiple disabilities. It aims to describe and understand attitudes towards mental hygiene at a cognitive, emotional and conative level. Theoretical part of the thesis describes special primary school, the profession of teachers, summarizes the theoretical knowledge of mental hygiene and defines attitude. The thesis further contains qualitative research, which uses the method of semi-structured interview and answers the research question. According to the results of the research, teachers in special primary school have positive attitudes towards mental hygiene at all levels. Their opinions, thoughts and ideas coincide with findings from professional literature. For the teachers, mental hygiene is associated with pleasant emotions. School maturity and school readiness of pupils in preparatory class

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of school maturity and readiness of pupils in the preparatory class. In the theoretical part the basic terminology from the field of pre-school education and problems of entering the elementary school is defined. There are also the principles of the preliminary test of school maturity described in detail. They are subsequently applied in practical research. The research part focuses on the comparison of the level of school maturity and readiness of pupils in the preparatory class and children in kindergarten. The survey was mainly conducted using qualitative methods, specifically through interviews, questionnaires and anamnesis. However, one quantitative method was also included - the standardized preliminary test of school maturity. This test focuses on fine motor skills and visuo-motor coordination ability. The research was carried out in preparatory classes and kindergartens in Mladá Boleslav and its surroundings. The goal of this diploma thesis was to find out whether education in a certain kind of preschool facility can affect children's readiness for school. This diploma thesis focuses on the exercising of voting rights by people with intellectual disabilities. The thesis aims to present the topic of voting rights of people with intellectual disabilities within the domestic and international legislative framework and to explore the perception of elections and voting rights from the perspective of people with intellectual disabilities by applying qualitative research. The theoretical part describes elections, voting rights, specific features of people with intellectual disabilities, and availability of the support to vote. The essential part of the diploma thesis also contains a legislative overview, which anchors the voting rights of people with disabilities. The practical part of the thesis deals with the topic of perception of elections and voting rights from the perspective of people with intellectual disabilities. Moral Reasoning of People with Mild intellectual Disability

The aim of this thesis is to describe and analyse the moral reasoning of people with mild intellectual disability, as well as to find out their understanding of more abstract terms of the moral domain, what the principle of their deciding is, and which values are important for them. In the first part, the thesis concentrates on the influence of the intellectual disability on the cognitive, emotional and personality aspects of the subjects. It also introduces several theories of the moral development, moral structure and values, and finally, the thesis presents the outcomes of the foreign research focused on the moral reasoning of people with intellectual disability. In six case studies in the empirical part, the thesis demonstrates the moral reasoning of people with mild intellectual disability, who have been respondents of exploratory interviews. In the concluding part, the thesis attempts to find some identical significant moments which might be characteristic of moral reasoning of people with mild intellectual disability, and put them into the context of other research and theories.
Options of leisure activities and offers for pupils from the special elementary school in the Districts of Nymburk and Kolin

This diploma thesis is focused on leisure activities for children with moderate and severe mental retardation. The theoretical framework demonstrates the degrees of mental retardation, and in addition, integration and inclusion issues in education are discussed. This part of the diploma thesis acquaints with potential leisure centres and presents various forms of leisure activities for children with moderate and severe mental retardation. The practical application part identifies specific leisure activity options and in a collaboration with leisure centres it provides a comprehensive overview of leisure activities for children with moderate and severe mental retardation in Kolin and Nymburk region. It also captures parental interest in these leisure activities.
