This bachelor's thesis focuses on the image of tobacco and its users in the three most read dailies in the Czech Republic. Dailies as mass media very much influence the public views and opinions of citizens and significantly contribute to how the "tobacco scene" is perceived by the general public. The goal of my thesis is to analyze and describe the contexts that the mentioned media associate with tobacco or its users. I conducted my survey, using the quantitative content analysis of a sample of articles published from 1st of January to 1st of June). The analyzed time period was appropriate also because the act on smoking ban in the Czech Republic was discussed during that time period. I selected these articles based on the tobacco-related keywords that I specified beforehand. Thanks to the followed attributes, it is possible to conclude from the analyzed articles how tobacco is perceived by society, what properties are nowadays attributed to tobacco, what tobacco is associated with and what characteristics are used with respect to tobacco users. Using the analysis findings, my thesis describes the content of articles on tobacco (the focus of criticism, the overall tone of articles, tobacco implications….).
