Academic libraries of public universities in the Czech Republic and their services aimed for foreign students : analysis of current state

(in English) The aim of master thesis was to describe and asses current state of services offered by libraries of public (i.e. non-private) universities in the Czech Republic to foreign students. The first chapter briefly characterizes university libraries in the Czech Republic and aims at legislative framework, financing, institutional background, users, offered services and information sources typical for university libraries. The second chapter deals with foreign students at universities in the Czech Republic. It presents an overview of works which dealt with the theme of foreign students in the Czech Republic until now, informs about which public universities in the Czech Republic are preferred by foreign students and which countries these students come from. The third chapter presents the principal part of the work. It contains the report on the survey carried out in public university libraries in the Czech Republic to which a questionnaire was sent focusing on services offered to foreign students. The Place of the Library within the Organisational Framework of Universities in the Czech Republic and USA: A Comparison Study

The aim of this master thesis was to describe and asses the place of the library within the organizational framework of universities in the Czech Republic and USA. Aim of this thesis is to describe and evaluate the current position of library in organizational structure of colleges and universities in the Czech Republic and USA. First chapter sums up the current situation. For Czech universities in public school sector the corresponding elementary data, relevant legislative scope and position in organizational structure of public universities are emphasized and presented. For US universities the current status is presented with a particular example of five public universities. Second chapter is about current trends in evolution of university libraries in Czech Republic and USA with an emphasis on position in university or college structure. Third chapter is the essential part of the thesis. It contains report about survey performed with representatives of Czech public universities and representatives of given libraries. Last chapter presents parallel research done in USA.

Survey of Old Prints and Manuscripts Collections in Faculty Libraries of Charles University in Prague

(in English): This study focuses on the faculty libraries of the Charles University in Prague. More precisely, it deals with their collections of manuscripts, old and rare books. The introductory chapters are dedicated to theoretical basis of protection and preservation of historical documents. The main body of the thesis is created by an analysis of historical collections in particular libraries. This analysis is based on a questionnaire survey, on study of sources and on a research carried out during an actual visit to these libraries. Each chapter includes a brief history of the faculty library, the origin of the collection, and other important features such as the size of the collection, its thematic focus and especially the details of the way it is stored and available to readers. Another important focus of this study is to express the needs, the aims and experience of these faculty libraries. A more detailed study is dedicated to the library of The Protestant Theological Faculty. It includes a report about my research into the actual physical condition of the collection. The theme of this doctoral thesis is the gate for free access to the electronic information resources Art On-line at the Library of The Janacek Academy of Music and Performing Arts /JAMU/ in Brno (see http://knihovna.jamu.cz/index.html or http://dokumenty.jamu.cz/knihovna/eiz). The purposes are analysis and evaluation of the current state of the gate, survey of using information and information services, suggestion of its expansion, suggestion of its organizational and technological innovation and suggestion for completion of electronic information resources. The doctoral thesis consists of seven chapters. The opening part introduces JAMU and the Library of JAMU, the fundamental part presents the gate Art On-line. Social Networking for Questionnaire Survays

The aim of this work is to design and implement an application using an experimental library CloudKit. This application will serve as a social network for community submitters and questionnaire surveys respondents. Implemented social network is tested on a group of users who are involved in running the network. The benefit of this work is to test the Library CloudKit and its relevance for social networks.

Evaluation of Mystery Shopping in National Library of Technology 2015

V posledních letech knihovny po celém světě využívají metody ověřování kvality služeb formou tzv. mystery shoppingu. Národní technická knihovna se již podruhé rozhodla zvolit tento průzkum pro získání dat k evaluaci a rozvoji poskytovaných služeb. První testování knihovny proběhlo v roce 2014 a poskytlo teoretický i praktický základ pro přípravu průzkumu v roce 2015. Díky výsledkům z předešlého roku jsme mohli porovnat, zda došlo k úspěšnému zavedení doporučení z prvního mystery shoppingu. V roce 2015 bylo hodnocení více zaměřeno na samotné služby (otázky byly velmi specifické a šly více do hloubky oproti roku 2014). Vzhledem k tomu nebylo zcela možné srovnání všech výsledků z roku 2015 s rokem 2014. I v tomto roce byla na základě výstupů připravena SWOT analýza a sepsán soubor doporučení, který byl předán odpovědným oddělením. Z průzkumu vzešla také řada metodologických doporučení pro příští roky.

How Financial Markets Assess the State of Major Economies

In accordance with its main goal, the main thesis shows which published data and indicators contemporary financial markets use to assess the state of major economies and forecast their short-term future development. Using Bloomberg as the primary source, the thesis provides a detailed analysis of the indicators and surveys sought by finance professionals when assessing the performance of the economy in the United States, the euro-zone (with emphasis on Germany) and, in the context of the impact on the global economy and markets, in China and Japan. A preliminary hypothesis about the similarity or closeness between the theoretical view and the practical approach of financial markets has been refuted. Instead, after close scrutiny and detailed analysis, we have established that financial markets put great emphasis on forward-looking indicators and monetary policy. This emphasis was confirmed by a survey of local investors. Using expert opinion and analysis, the thesis charts an overview of select economic indicators and their over- (payrolls, consumer sentiment) or undervaluation (regional Fed activity indexes, CFNAI).

Methodological guidelines for the research, documentation and inventorisation of architectural elements

Potřeba metodicky ukotvit průzkum, dokumentaci a inventarizaci architektonických prvků (dále jen PDI) vyplynula z každodenní praxe stavebněhistorických průzkumů (SHP) a operativních průzkumů a dokumentace (OPD). Architektonické prvky představují velmi důležitou součást komplexního výzkumu historických staveb a stavební kultury obecně. Metodika poskytuje standard této činnosti, který zároveň umožní diskusi a výměnu informací v rámci oboru i při mezioborové spolupráci. Chce být návodem průzkumné a dokumentační činnosti, prospěšným zejména začínajícím pracovníkům v oblasti péče o kulturní dědictví. Jedním z hlavních cílů metodiky je ukázat cesty k maximálnímu informačnímu vytěžení nálezové situace, velmi často ohrožené dynamickými změnami při stavební a další činnosti.
