Václav Havel, Politician and Intellectual: The Idea of Non-Political Politics

Non-political politics, ergo an alternative approach to the classical politics of power engineering, is one of the major philosophical themes of Václav Havel. Havel is placing this concept against the communist post-totalitarian regime, which forces the society to live in ideological lies. This post- totalitarian regime claims the absolute control over the society, its behavior and thinking, by which it suppresses natural identity of every man. Solution to this situation is the life in truth, integral part of the non-political politics. The life in truth is a defence against lies of the regime and it allows people to preserve their identity. Post-totalitarian regime in its core seek to control everything and cannot ignore such existential mutiny. It attempts to suppress it and thus making dissidents its political oposition. Dissidents only declare truth by which they obtain respect of western countries and consequently some influence over the communist regime. Havel is further developping this concept since 70's into separate approach to the politics in general, which makes it still current even nowadays. Although the possible naivety, this concept definitely played its role as we can see on Charter 77, which became the first swallow of freedom in the normalization Czechoslovakia.

Furthermore, the thesis examines the function of the media in the everyday life of normalisation households and identifies the sources of images responsible for bipolarization of the outside world and their nature. It also deals with the public view on the importance of free media for the functioning of a democratic society. Last but not least, the thesis tracks the possibility of obtaining information from official, unofficial and foreign media. ‚Other worlds' of female members of Jazz section of the Musicians' Union in the normalization period

MARTINA HYNKOVÁ: ‚JINÉ SVĚTY' ŽEN JAZZOVÉ SEKCE V OBDOBÍ TZV. NORMALIZACE ABSTRACT This master thesis deals with the Jazz section of the Musicians' Union in the normalization period. It was an amateur organization which existed from 1971 until 1986. It took an active part in the area of jazz and united an extensive jazz community. The thesis aims at gender aspects of female Jazz section's activities and roles. The research question can be formulated as follows: Which strategies of living did female members of the Jazz section choose during the normalization? The thesis is based on a biographical method consisting of six interviews with former female members of the Jazz section. Those interviews were made via an episodic narrative interview. The author revealed the following strategies of living: accession to the Jazz section community, being an active member of the community, going abroad to visit cultural events, contact with dissent and living in two worlds. Making of these other worlds by female members of the Jazz section thus became strategies of living on their own.

Dissertation work Andrej Krob follows Krob`s remarkable journey to theatre from meeting Vaclav Havel during his military service in 1957, through Krob`s arrival to Divadlo Na zabradli in the early sixties of 20th century and especially his collaboration with director Jan Grossman, next to who Krob gradually work his way up from stage technician to the director. From the numerous Krob`s productions is the attention paid to the very first one, almost unknown directorial act, student production of Kral Ubu, presented on chateau Breznice in 1964, however this dissertation is mostly dedicated to the selected and key Krob`s productions of Vaclav Havel`s plays. Meeting this author was for Krob personaly as well as for his directorial poetics progress entirely fundamental. That`s why this work describes and analyses in detail semi illegal production of Havel`s play Zebracka opera, presented by Krob in Horni Pocernice in 1975, which has became establishing production of Divadlo na tahu, as well as Krob`s production of the same play from 1995. Regime campaign against Charita 77 on pages of Rudé právo

"Regime campaign against Charta 77 on pages of Rudé právo" is the name of this diploma work and the definition of the research aim. This research aim is elaborated by qualitative content analysis of chosen media. Diploma work is divided into three main parts which are methodology, historical (theoretical) and analytical. Theoretical part describes historical affairs essential for understanding the role of Charta 77 in context of normalization regime in communistic Czechoslovakia starting from Prague Spring and ending with events leading to the Velvet revolution. In context of opposition movements and new forms of resistance emerging the regime reaction on rise of the opposition is also described. In the structure of historical part the key moment is foundation of Charta 77 and its activities and aims. The role and function of journalism as well as the role of Rudé právo daily in communistic regime is described as important background for regime media campaign understanding. The Ethical Aspects of Literary Production of the Czech Dissidents

Dissertation thesis focuses on the ethical aspects of literary production of the Czech dissidents. Literature is viewed primarily as a means to legitimation; it works as a legitimizing or delegitimizing agent. A good example is the Czech dream-book by Ludvik Vaculik which shows how it is possible through the written word to (de)legitimize and to (de)mythologize themselves and others and what ethical issues such behavior brings. It works with concepts of the proliferative effect of fiction and the author's reputation as symbolic capital; postulation of the authenticity of the literary testimony; the theory of collective authorship; describing the process of silencing; and the concept of the last dictionary and the solidarity based on a revision of this dictionary. It seeks to contribute to a new approach to dissent by showing the (de)legitimizing efforts in the samizdat's literature and the literature about the dissent and thus to undermine the mainstream homogenization of this multifaceted phenomenon.

A dissident's life in a small town in northeast region of Bohemia

The diploma thesis, based primarily on the method of oral history, deals with selected chapters from the life of Petr Rýgr, a dissident and a person belonging to the circle of parallel culture. It is conceived as an episodic biography, while in the course of the research it follows the topic of the desire for a free life in a represive regime. The time limit corresponds to the period, called as "normalization" in socialist Czechoslovakia. The work captures the life of a dissident on a regional scale, on the border of the districts of Trutnov and Náchod. Rýgr's life is viewed in the text from several perspectives, primarily the self-concept of the protagonist, the view of his friends, and then the view of the author of the work based on the interpretation of interviews and the study of written sources. The individual chapters deal with Rýgr's adolescence, the possible degree of formation by opinion authorities, Václav Havel or Jaroslav Foglar, as well as life in a parallel, unofficial world, the issue of work duty or the October 1989 event when Petr Rýgr sent an advertisement to Rudé právo congratulating Václav Havel alias Ferdinand Vaňek on his birthday. The relationship of the Polish Catholic Church to the Solidarity movement and its image in Czech samizdat

The diploma thesis deals with the relationship of the Solidarity movement with the Catholic Church in Poland until 1989 and the manifestations of this relationship in Czech samizdat periodicals. The researched periodicals are Lidové noviny, Informace o Charte 77 and Informace o církvi. The thesis presents the situation of the Polish civil opposition, especially in the 1980s. Much of the work is devoted to the Solidarity movement. Not only important milestones of this movement are presented here, but to some extent also its sociological profile. In addition to the civic opposition, the situation of the Catholic Church in Poland is described with emphasis on the circumstances and events that built the relationship between the Church and the stateas well as between the Church and the Solidarity movement. Due to the profile of the work, one of the chapters also deals with dissent in the then Czechoslovakia, both civic and Catholic. The researched periodicals have a samizdat character, so one of the chapters is dedicated to this form of written text and the author explains the reasons for choosing the three mentioned samizdat titles. Dissent in the Baltic republics

Tadeáš Fořt Abstract This bachelor thesis deals with the differences between dissent in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. All groups of dissidents were influenced by international events such as revolution in Hungary in 1956, Prague spring of 1968 and the signing of the Helsinki Final Act by the Soviet Union. Even though all dissident groups reacted to those events, the form and motivation of their protests against the regime were different. Main differences between these groups lie in national and religious differences in Baltics. While Lithuanians did not have an issue with immigration from other Soviet countries, Latvians and Estonians were becoming minorities in their own countries which heavily influenced the priorities of dissident groups. Religious differences can be seen in Lithuania too, where Catholic Church was very popular and become the staging point of dissent as well as for example creation of underground media such as Chronicle of Catholic Church in Lithuania, one of the most influential pieces of samizdat in whole Soviet Union. Churches in Latvia and Estonia, whether it would be Lutheran or Catholic did not enjoy such popularity thus their influence was highly marginal.
