Water in physics and physics in water
BREBURDOVÁ, Hana
Breburdová, H. (2022): Water in physics and physics in water. Diploma thesis. České Budějovice: University of South Bohemiain České Budějovice, Faculty of Education. This diploma thesis focuses on research-based teaching and the creation of physics experiments fit for teaching physics at the lower-secondary level of education. The primary goal of this thesis is to suggest certain physics experiments that, while allowing the use of water, also explain the basic behaviour of liquids in physics. Furthermore, it aims to create a worksheet for realised research-based. The outputs of this are selected experiments and a worksheet of research-based teaching.
Research-like education in primary schools
Svátková, Barbora ; Vančata, Václav (advisor) ; Skýbová, Jana (referee)
In this thesis, we assume a pan-European issue of the decline of interest in science and science education. In connection with this issue we conducted a literature search. We have also mapped the literature related to the issue of education research in the Czech Republic and the rest of the world. In an effort to increase pupils' interest, increase enthusiasm for science, we deal with activation teaching methods that compare with frontal teaching. As a motivational method we chose a research method of teaching. We prepared a lesson, which we tested among pupils of secondary school. In this work we watched 16 hours in 6 classes. Those lectures were inquiry and frontal way led. The results are presented in the practical part of this thesis. During lectures we wanted to stimulate students' interest in science and science research. French History Textbooks as Inspiation for Czech Schools
Sedlmeier, Aleš
5 ABSTRACT: The present thesis deals with history textbook usage in lower secondary school classes. It focuses on the work methods in French history books and their possible application within the Czech system while taking the pupils' perspective into consideration. The theoretical part introduces history instruction in France and work methods used in their textbooks. The focal point of the thesis is its practical part, a case study of two study units that were prepared based on French textbooks; "Townsmen, trade and slavery" and "Women and feminism in 19 th century". These were taught in two year-eight history classes. The results and discussion consist mainly of the analysis of work outputs and pupils' feedback on the used materials. The conclusion outlines possible means of inspiration for Czech schools by the French methods analysed in the case studies. KEY WORDS: Secondary school history History textbook History didactics French textbooks Inquiry-based learning Constructivist teaching
Comparison of the didactic potential of Austrian and Czech history textbooks on the example of selected historical events
Hrabáková, Simona ; Najbert, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Pinkas, Jaroslav (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyze and compare the didactic potential of Czech and Austrian history textbooks regarding to their anchoring in the educational system and working with historical thinking and historical literacy, generally with the development of students' key competencies. The thesis took into account differences in the educational systems of both countries, the curriculum and, overall, worked with the goals of modern history teaching. The comparison was made on historical events that connect these two countries, and the core of the thesis is the analysis of processing these topics in terms of the Research-Based teaching goals. The output of this thesis is a specific teaching unit that works with Czech and Austrian textbooks and tries to cover the main theses of modern didactics of history. Different levels of inquiry in physics experiments
Fürstová, Tereza ; Kácovský, Petr (advisor) ; Koudelková, Věra (referee)
The thesis is focused on four levels of the Inquiry-Based Science Education (IBSE). The first chapter describes IBSE in detail and also highlights the studies focused on the efficiency of IBSE. Pendulum and hydrostatic pressure experiments worksheets were created on the four levels of IBSE. A questionnaire reflecting some aspects of students' personalities were created and students were split into groups according to their answers. Another questionnaire about experiments and understanding of the physical phenomena was created. The central theme of this thesis focuses on the students' activities while they were working on the created worksheets. First year students from high school experimented following the created worksheets and they were recorded on the video during their work. We used codes to describe and differentiate the activities in the videos and we studied their distribution afterwards. From the recordings we then obtained information about the students' activities during experimentation at different levels of IBSE.
Primary school curriculum enrichment in the subject area of science
Fischerová, Zuzana ; Dvořák, Dominik (advisor) ; Simonová, Jaroslava (referee)
The results of the international study TIMSS (The Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) raise concerns that Czech primary pupils fall behind in some content domains of science (namely the physical sciences) and in some skills (experimental skills). This thesis compares the Czech curriculum with the current international trends in the science education and shows that above mentioned topics/skills are not sufficiently covered in the official curriculum. The second part of the thesis describes a case study of a relatively successful implementation of innovative science lessons focused on these skills in three primary classrooms of a Czech school. The concepts of inquiry-based learning, theory of learning materials and lesson study method are the main components of the theoretical and conceptual background of the study. When comparing the Czech curriculum (official documents and textbooks used in school) and school curricular plans with the TIMSS framework, it emerges that both the national curricular framework and the school curriculum do not cover some of those upper mentioned. Based on these findings, a lesson plan introducing some of the missing areas and task types was developed and tested in a particular school. The qualitative research desigh of case study with embedded...
