Posuny v turecké zahraniční politice v éře R. T. Erdoğana a její dopady na vztahy s USA a Izraelem
Ikizgül, Varol
My bachelor's thesis deals with the shape and development of Turkish-American and Turkish-Israeli foreign relations, especially in the era of R. T. Erdoğan. The aim of the thesis is to answer the question of how Turkey's foreign policy has changed after the accession of R. T. Erdoğan and how significantly these changes have affected the gradual development of foreign relations with the United States and Israel. Turkish, Israeli, and American interests, particularly in the Middle East, often overlap, which is why their foreign relations are very dynamic. The thesis points out that although Turkey remains one of the United States' main partners in NATO, Erdoğan's foreign policy has repeatedly come into conflict with the foreign policies of the Biden administration, the Trump administration, or the Obama administration before that. In particular, I see the Kurdish issue, or the issue of acquiring military technology outside NATO structures, as a fundamental core of the conflicts. Also central to the strengthening of Russia and Iran's positions of power is the position of Israel, which is an important strategic ally of both the United States and Turkey. Despite the fact that Turkish-Israeli relations have been in very good shape most of the time, the Gaza Strip was, especially in the first half of the 2010s, a bone of contention between the two countries.
The impact of the Turkish economic crisis on Turkey's foreign policy and the Turkish-Israeli relations
Rodrigues Soares Barbosa Silva, Pedro Gonçalo ; Kazharski, Aliaksei (advisor) ; Aslan, Emil (referee)
This thesis aims to evaluate the impact of Turkey's economic crisis on its foreign policy and analyse the subsequent developments in the relationship between Turkey and Israel. Supporting the analysis, a theoretical framework based on Economic Realism was utilised, wherein the analytical portion of the thesis will focus first on Economic dimension of the Turkish-Israeli relationship, and later its Security dimension. The Economic Analysis section focuses mainly on the 2018 economic crisis in Turkey, and the characteristics of the Turkish economy, as well as the trade/economic relationship between Ankara and related recent regional developments. The thesis delves into the Turkish-Israeli rapprochement of 2022, combining a political analysis of recent developments with a historical study of the bilateral relationship. The security dimension of the relationship is also explored, particularly in relation to the shared concern of Iran. The thesis analyses more deeply the Turco-Iranian, as well as Israeli-Iranian rivalry in Syria and Iraq, in order to evaluate the potential Security-driven calculations in the Turkish foreign policy shift. The thesis concludes that Turkey's post-crisis foreign policy shift aligns with Economic Realism. The Turkish-Israeli rapprochement is positive but not unique in the...
Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant and Energy Diplomacy: How Construction of the Akkuyu Power Plant affected Energy Diplomacy between Turkey and Russia? A Process Tracing Approach.
Kolay, Bengi ; Holubcová, Jitka (advisor) ; Ludvík, Jan (referee)
In 2010 a contract was signed between Russian Rosatom and Turkey to build the first Nuclear Power plant (NPP) in Turkey called Akkuyu NPP. The aim of this thesis is to analyze energy diplomacy between Turkey and Russia in context of the construction of Akkuyu. By analyzing energy diplomacy in the context of Akkuyu NPP gives a better understanding of bilateral relations, national interest, economic considerations and security concerns. To study this, explaining the outcome type of Process Tracing (PT) was used as it allows analyses within a case. Akkuyu NPP in itself is unique as it is the first NPP that is built on Build Operate and Own (BOO) principle that is technically owned by the Russian Federation. Three hypotheses were formulated and tested. As a result, out of three hypotheses two were proven. The first hypothesis that argued that the construction of Akkuyu NPP was used as an energy diplomacy tool by Russia to promote national interest was conclusively proven but had some plausible indications. Hypothesis two and three demonstrated that construction of Akkuyu was affected by energy diplomacy and economic considerations and Akkuyu NPP has negatively affected energy diplomacy between Turkey and Russia. From PT results and literature review combined it can be further plausible to say the...

Němcová, Linda ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on the framing of the Cyprus conflict in Czech print newspapers from the perspective of peace journalism. The aim of this thesis is to examine the journalistic tendencies that are applied in the selection and processing of events related to the Cyprus conflict in the Czech media. Not only the main topics that are preferred by the media in their coverage in this context are monitored, but also the way in which the various actors in the conflict are presented and the ratio of representation of official and unofficial sources of quotations. The theoretical part of this thesis explains the concept of framing, its relation to media agenda setting theory, the framing process and the typology of frames. It also introduces the concept of peace journalism in contrast to war journalism. At the same time, this chapter offers an overview of the origins and development of the Cyprus conflict up to its current form. The last subchapter of this section is devoted to selected foreign research on framing the Cyprus conflict, especially its findings and sets of frames. These are used in a quantitative content analysis focusing on the occurrence of these predefined frames in Czech print newspapers. In the interpretation of the results, the correspondences or differences with these studies are...

Vývoj a proměny postavení žen v současném Turecku
Roušarová, Veronika
The development and status of women in Turkey is to a certain extent influenced by both the culture and traditions of the country and Islam itself, as the main religion. The document is divided into a theoretical and an analytical part. The theoretical part initially deals with Turkish legislation concerning women’s rights, then examines the withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention in more detail. It also describes the steps and the very positions of the current AKP government on the issue of the status of Turkish women. Additionally, it focuses on the aspect of religion, family structure or women’s organizations in the country trying to promote women’s issues. A separate chapter is devoted to education and how gender inequality is rooted in it. The analytical part is devoted to the results of the qualitative research that was carried out for the purpose of this work. A total of 13 interviews were conducted with women of Turkish nationality, during which they were asked about their personal experiences in the field of gender inequality and their opinion on the issue. The results themselves show diversity of opinions and attitudes, as some informants were convinced of the absence of gender discrimination in the country, while others, on the contrary, described Turkish society as patriarchally dominated, where women are no longer equal to men.
Demokracie jako předpoklad vstupu Turecka do EU
Konečný, Štěpán
Democracy is an essential prerequisite for any country to join the EU. My thesis focuses on the state of democracy in the Republic of Turkey today and its accession to the EU at the same time. I began to investigate the nature of Turkish democracy from the very inception of Turkey. The historical context has helped me to understand the evolution of Turkish democracy to its present form. I have mainly focused on the development from the beginning of the new century to the present day. I have checked whether Turkey is moving towards or away from democracy by using the Democracy Index. I also looked at what conditions are imposed when it comes to Turkey's accession to the EU and how Turkey has been and is being able to meet the conditions. As a result, Turkey's drift away from democracy and the current stagnation of accession negotiations is hampering undemocratic sentiments in the current Turkish political scene.
