Presentation of the Czech Presidency 2022 in the Council of the EU in the selected political podcasts

The research is of interest in the media presentation of the second presidency of the Czech Republic in the Council of the European Union in selected Czech podcasts. Special attention is paid to podcasts focusing directly on events in the European Union during the Czech Presidency in the second half of 2022. Specifically, the thesis analyses the podcast of Czech radio Český rozhlas Bruselské chlebíčky, the podcast of the Deník.cz Evropa pro Čechy and the podcast of the news website Euractiv.cz Europa zblízka. It focuses on media coverage of podcast topics and actors and deals generally with the structure and processing of episodes of individual media with an emphasis on the specifics of the media format. It also offers a comprehensive overview of podcasting and provides basic information about the European Union and the Presidency. Media presentation is processed using content analysis and frame analysis. The aim of the thesis is, among other things, to determine what aspects connect the individual podcasts and what makes them different. Evolution of the preferences of the Council of the European Union in negotiating Transparency Register

The thesis examines the evolution of the preferences of the Council of the European Union in the context of the approval of the European lobbying control mechanism, the so-called Transparency Register. In the thesis, the author sets three research hypotheses that seek to prove the influence of three different factors on the positions of the Council, as the last institution to enter the negotiation process. The thesis is based on rational choice theory, specifically the agenda-setting as well as the principal-agent sub-theory. The methodological form of the thesis research is based on the qualitative method of process-tracing, which explains the investigation of the chain of events or decision processes through which conditions are transformed into outcomes. The examination of agenda-setting confirmed the fact that although the Commission as the primary actor of agenda-setting at the EU level has fulfilled this role, it uses only soft power and a diplomatic narrative that lacks authority, which prevents it from convincing the Council to actively cooperate in negotiating the Register. European directive on nuclear safety: Council decision making in 2004, 2009 and 2014

Even though nuclear energy was one the first areas in which European countries started integrating their policies through the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom), the question of nuclear installations safety was only addressed by the EU in the context of the impending enlargement of the Union in 2004. In 2003, the European Commission submitted the first-ever proposal for a European directive on nuclear safety. However, the Council rejected it the following year, opening a five-year-long debate leading to the drafting of a new directive proposal, which was subsequently adopted in 2009. Only two years later, in the wake of the 2011 Fukushima disaster, amending this directive became necessary. Discussions resulted in adopting the amended legislation in the summer of 2014. This master's thesis analyses the main factors influencing the Council's decision-making on either rejecting or adopting the proposed directives in 2004, 2009 and 2014. The analysis is based on the following five scope conditions supposed to lead to integration acceptance by EU member states, as defined by authors Manuele Citi and Martin Rhodes: policy failure and availability of a successful alternative, external influence emanating from foreign countries hardly manageable by the individual states, functional interdependence...

Promoting Czech Priorities in Eastern Partnership: Three Czech Presidencies

The thesis "Promoting Czech Priorities in Eastern Partnership" deals with Czech policy towards six states of Eastern Europe and Southern Caucasus during three presidencies: in Visegrad Group in years 2007/2008 and 2011/2012 and in the Council of EU in 2009. These periods were chosen, because Czech Republic had the biggest opportunity to influence the project in them. Based on the analysis of presidency programms and evaluation of agenda, the thesis tries to assess, if was Czech Republic successful in promoting its foreign policy priorities in the project during the presidencies. First chapters of the thesis are dedicated to history of Czech relations with the region of Eastern Europe and to description of Eastern Partnership project. The other three chapters are case studies of particular presidencies. After all, the thesis concludes, that despite the fact, that Czech Republic successfully included its priorities in presidency programms and agenda, it was not able to promote them on the EU level because of lack of political interest and experience.

Swedish presidencies of the Council of the European Union

This bachelor thesis compares two Swedish presidencies of the Council of the European Union. The first part focuses on the analysis of them. It mentions priorities, objectives and implemented measures. The next section evaluates the overall success of both presidencies from the perspective of authors, who were concerned with this topic and also explains the reasons behind the achievements or failures. The core of the thesis is the comparison of the analysed presidency periods. The attention is focused on the differences in the attitude to the institute of presidency, in priorities and in approach to them. Reasons of the differences are explained as well. At the same time, the thesis shows, which options a medium-sized Eurosceptic country in charge of the European Union has.

German presidency of the Council of the European Union

The Bachelor thesis deals with German presidency of the Council of the European Union after the end of the Cold War. The aim is to characterize the development of German European policy during this period and to determine the role of the institute of presidency for its largest member. The first chapter defines the EU from various theoretical approaches, especially from the perspective of realism and idealism. It also characterizes the formation, functions and objectives of the institute of presidency and discusses the issue of position of large and smaller states. The second chapter describes the objectives, progress and results of all three of the German presidencies (1994, 1999 and 2007), based on which is in the third chapter carried out their comparison and analysis of German European policy changes. In the last chapter, I evaluate and analyze the role of Germany in the EU Council and on that basis I propose some steps that Germany could take in the next presidency. The author concludes that a big state like Germany is able (unlike smaller states) to advance it's own interests also without the institute of EU presidency, but even so, this institution represents for this big state an important instrument for promoting various policies.

The bachelor thesis deals with the title ?European Capital of Culture?, which is awarded annually by the Council of the European Union to selected European cities. Title history and first cities gained the title are mentioned. An important criterion is the European and Czech legislation and how to select the winning cities. Attention is then paid to the statutory city of Plzen - European Capital of Culture for 2015 and to all the important aspects which are related to the title.
