Musil, Jan ; Hermann, Tomáš (advisor) ; Šimůnek, Michal (referee) ; Svobodný, Petr (referee)
This doctoral thesis describes the formation, activities and dissolution of the Czech Society of Biotypology (1937-1959), herein used as an example of impact of the constitutional typology (human typology science) on the Czechoslovak medicine. Human constitution science (in French and Romance languages called biotypology) classifies individual human beings on the base of morphological and physiological characteristics, with particular emphasis on forecast of future trends. The core of the science focuses on correlation between the physical appearance of a person and his/her mental characteristics. The Czech Society of Biotypology (Česká společnost biotypologická - ČSB) was founded with ambitions not only to study human beings, but also to increase their potential. The whole movement was therefore conceived as an example of a sanitation scientific program in accordance with the governmental interest in rationalization of population care. The methodology of the thesis is based on Foucault's concept of biopower - change of power strategies and their constitutive influence on the development and change of social relations, values and individual strategies of persons. The story of formation and dissolution of ČSB is interpreted as a consequence of these changes. The core of the thesis consists of a...

Musil, Jan ; Činátlová, Blanka (advisor) ; Bílek, Petr (referee)

First of all, the motifs of the novel are analysed, and then the novel is set in wider context of genre reading (the grotesque, picaresque novel, war novel). The textual analysis serves as the basis for comparison of two different sets of illustrations: that of Josef Lada and that of George Grosz that were created for theater adapation of the novel in theater of Erwin Piscator. Drawing on that, the posibilities of image based reading of a literary text are shown, the different interpretational attitudes of the compared artists are analysed, and the modes of creating image-text relations are discussed. Expert evidence in criminal proceedings
Borčevský, Pavel ; Musil, Jan (advisor) ; Gřivna, Tomáš (referee) ; Sváček, Jan (referee)
This thesis addresses the use of expert evidence in criminal trial proceedings. The author's primary aim is to present a thorough analysis of this highly specific form of evidence as contained in the Criminal Procedure Code, Act No. 141/1961 Coll., to identify its insufficiencies, and to suggest some potential legislative modifications. The author is aware that the role of an expert in criminal proceedings is also determined in part by the Act on Experts and Interpreters, Act No. 36/1967 Coll., but he deals with this organizational norm only marginally, as his main goal is to analyze the possibilities of using expert evaluations within the framework of criminal procedure. The author also takes account of some currently topical issues such as the confrontation of experts and the use of computer software in the expert's work. Given that recodification of the Criminal Procedure Code is currently underway,...
