Possibility of using EMW radiation for killing biotic pests
Gintar, Jan ; Klečka,, Tomáš (referee) ; Pěnčík, Jan (referee) ; Šuhajda, Karel (advisor)
The remediation of building elements and structures in terms of moisture and sterilization (inactivation) of biotic pests is dealt with quite often in construction practice and in the construction industry itself, and is thus a topical issue. The issue is dealt with by specialized companies that know the use of available technology on the market, or are themselves involved in the development and improvement of these devices. Several methods are known for the removal of moisture and sterilization of biotic pests, with sufficiently high-quality data on the technology used, the suitability of the equipment used, a more detailed description of the application of the methods themselves and the results themselves. The methods themselves, for removing moisture and eliminating (inactivating) biotic pests, must be chosen according to individual requirements, as some methods will be more appropriate (more effective) and some less suitable. For the practice itself, however, it is important that the methods are sufficiently effective and at the same time available to the wider public (their economic side). In my dissertation thesis I focus on the potential of EMW radiation utilization not only for liquidation of biotic pests (fungi, fungi, wood decaying insects), but also elimination or reduction of necessary conditions for survival or development of these biotic pests. Therefore, my work also focuses on the presence of moisture, because moisture is a common factor in the vast majority of problems associated with the occurrence of biotic pests. Due to its intensity, it is one of the less time-consuming method and therefore a more cost-effective (economically) method. The research I conducted at VUT FAST focused on the use of microwave radiation in the control of biotic pests, under conditions that are close to those on real constructions. The use of a microwave method to eliminate biotic pests and at the same time to remove moisture has proved to be advantageous.

Anthracological and xylotomy analysis from prehistoric archaeological sites and its relationship to vegetation conditions
Prach, Martin ; Novák, Jan (advisor) ; Beneš, Jaromír (referee)
Xylotomy and anthracological analysis belong to fundamental paleoecological methods used mostly for reconstructing evolution of past wood vegetation. The point of this analysis is utilizing either charred or uncharred ancient wood material in the form of taxonomical determination of particular fragments, resulting in conclusions pointing towards reconstruction of species composition of past vegetation. In its first part, this work deals with brief introduction of the method, containing its short history, different methodological approaches and possible complications with final conclusions. The literature review part contains geographically sorted analysis of studies from continental Europe from Spain to Sweden, published mostly in english. Keywords: charcoal, wood, reconstruction of vegetation, archeology, anthracology
Fungi associated with decomposing wood in temperate forests
Štercová, Lucie ; Baldrian, Petr (advisor) ; Zikánová, Blanka (referee)
Wood decaying fungi are an essential part of all forest ecosystems. On their functioning depends a number of other organisms which use substances produced during decay of wood. Enzymes that degrade wood represent indispensable tool for fungi in converting structural compounds of wood to water and carbon dioxide. That makes them an essential part of the carbon cycle in nature. The dynamic of fungal communities on decaying wood is determined by a range of abiotic and biotic factors. The variability of microclimatic conditions, differences in the wood humidity and a gaseous mode are identifying stress factors which define the presence of species adapted to those conditions. An important factor, with which we can partially predict community composition, is the degree of decomposition of wood and the history of a species on the substrate. Another indicator, which may partly explain the composition of the community is a way of dying of a tree and a type of decaying substrate. Often, the development of a community follows from the primary colonizers, with high tolerance to unfavorable conditions, through the secondary colonizers, which have the ability to obtain the substrate over primary colonizers, but require more stable microclimatic conditions, to late colonizers, who are adapted to stress factors as...
Mortality of small animals on singletrails in Marianské údolí valley (Brno, Czech Republic)
Homolka, Miloslav ; Mikulka, O. ; Kamler, J. ; Drimaj, J. ; Plhal, R.
Singletrail areas became a part of tourist business all over the world. Cycling routes usually go through the natural environment, they are used especially in the summer and therefore are quite evident that small animals are killed on them. The submitted contribution indicates what effects have the traffic on the singletrail on small animals in the deciduous forest environment (Brno, Czech Republic). During singletrail traffic insects and small vertebrates were killed. The number of cadavers of individual species was relatively small on the trails (3800 individuals of insect and 51 of vertebrates one during 3 months on the 11 km of the route) and traffic most probably does not endanger the existence of any animal species at the local population level. Mostly the common species were perished on the trails, but individuals of specially protected and endangered species were also killed there (Calosoma sycophanta, Bombus spp., Anguis fragilis, Bufo bufo) so this fact should not be overlooked and underestimated. For ethical and educational reasons, the construction of new singletrail areas should be preceded by careful research of particular area in order to map the distribution of small animals and choose the route with regard to minimizing mortality, especially endangered species of fauna.
Polička – housing on the edge of the town and landscape
Papcun, Peter ; Lacina, Adam (referee) ; Toman, Radek (advisor)
When I sleep, I am in the most intimate layer possible. When I wake up, I am in bed with my partner with whom I create a layer larger than the previous one. Us and our bed. I share the bathroom with my family, and I meet my friends in the kitchen at breakfast, with whom I share an apartment. I spend my day with neighbours in shared offices located on the ground floor, from which I have a view of the community gardens. In the evening, I will go to a cafe with my former classmates, who live nearby. In the evening I return home, watch a movie in the shared living room, brush my teeth and find myself again in the smallest layer of them all. I'm falling asleep. The housing design follows the idea that a person's life is made up of layers which are interconnected. These are either tangible, such as space, or intangible such as relationships and social contacts. The place in which we live must be adapted to this fact. This proposal is a combination of apartment buildings in cities where every element of the environment is much closer to one another. Additionally, at the same time, the community gardens meet the need for "land ownership’’ which usually fills family houses on the outskirts. Buildings are a combination of community and private housing to give people a choice between more or less privacy. However, features such as a cafe, shared offices, a small shop, or community gardens located on the ground floor are shared spaces. This area is not exclusively based on these buildings, but also on a square that connects them with each other and with the adjacent greenery and small playgrounds.
Influence of humidity changes to properties of building materials with organic filler
Vasas, Silvestr ; Vacula, Miroslav (referee) ; Bydžovský, Jiří (advisor)
The bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of dimensional changes of building materials containing organic filler, in connection with changes in the humidity of the environment in which the material is located. Searches of knowledge, especially from the scientific literature showed a significant effect of moisture on volume and weight changes of both wood itself and wood of cement composites. In this respect, the treatment of wood (thermal, chemical, etc.) ort he surface treatment of the final wood of the cement composite (coating systém, impregnation, etc.) is essential to reduce the rate of change due to ambient humidity. Experimental laboratory assessment of dimensional and mass changes proved compliance with theoretical knowledge and extended them by specifying the effect on individual dimensions. The different behavior of cement-bonded particleboards in terms of their hygroskopicity was demonstrated on the changes of the boards surface threatment with the coating system and on the boards without surface threatment.
WINERY MARCINČÁK NOVOSEDLY
Šmajda, Róbert ; Hudeček, Vladimír (referee) ; Dýr, Petr (advisor) ; Kacálek, Petr (advisor)
THE SUBJECT OF THIS BACHELOR THESIS IS TO DESIGN A BUILDING OBJECT / GROUP OF BUILDING OBJECTS OF THE WINERY MARCINČÁK IN THE VILLAGE NOVOSEDLY. THE BACHELOR THESIS BUILDS ON THE COURSE AG032 – ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIO II. (PRODUCTION BUILDINGS) IN ADDITION, ON PRE-PREPARED ARCHITECTURAL STUDY. THE PROJECT ADDRESSES A CONSTRUCTION OF THE GROUP OF BUILDING OBJECTS, WHICH SERVE SIMULTANEOUSLY THREE FUNCTIONS – ACCOMODATION, PRESENTATION AND PRODUCTION OF WINE. INDIVIDUAL OBJECTS ARE DESIGNED AS INDEPENDENT UNITS. THEY CAN BE IMPLEMENTED IN SEVERAL STAGES, WHICH IS HIGHLY BENEFICIAL FOR THE INVESTOR´S FINANCIAL BURDEN. THE LOCATION OF THE BUILDING IS SITUATED IN VERY LUCRATIVE AREA OF WELL KNOWN WINE REGION IN THE SOUTH OF MORAVIA. PARCEL OF LAND ITSELF LIES AT THE FOOT OF A RATHER SMALLER BUT CHARMING MILITARY HILL „STARÁ HORA“, WHICH BELONGS TO THE DANUBE HILLS. VINEYARDS SURROUND CONSTRUCTION AREA FROM ALL SIDES. DESIGN THEREFORE REFLECTS THE MAXIMUM CONSIDERATE APPROACH TO THE NATURAL CHARACTER OF THE SURROUNDING LANDSCAPE. THE KEY TO MANTAINING HARMONY OF THE DESIGNED BUILDING OBJECTS WITH UNSPOILED NATURE IS TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE INFLUENCE OF THE SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT ON THEIR ARCHITECTURAL EXPRESSION. NEW BUILDING OBJECTS SHOULD ATTRACT, BUT DO NOT DISTURB THE SURROUNDING NATURE AT ANY COST! FOR THIS REASON DESIGN COMPRISES NATURAL MATERIALS TO THE FULLEST EXTENT POSSIBLE. SPECIFICALLY, IT CONCERNS WOODEN BUILDINGS. WOOD IS MODERN AND APPEALING BUT DOES NOT DISTURB THE ORDER AND HARMONY. IT IS THEREFORE IDEAL TO UTILIZE IT, NOT ONLY AS A CONSTRUCTION ELEMENT BUT ESPECIALLY AS A CREATOR OF UNIQUE ATMOSPHERE THAT DEEPENS THE EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE DISTINCTIVE „GENIUS LOCI“.
