Multifunctional house

This diploma thesis deals with the solution of a construction of a corner gap site. A multifunctional house comprising three business establishments and nine residential units has been designed. Business premises will be used as stores. The apartments are designed for 4-member families. The multifunctional house has an atypical ground plan with a total area of 512 m2. The object has a basement and four above-ground floors, the business establishment is located on the first above-ground floor. The garage will be operated in automatic parking mode. The entire building is covered with a single-layer flat roof. The project is processed using the AutoCAD computer program.

End house

This diploma thesis deals with the design of an end dwelling house with a café in Žatec (district of Louny). It is a partly basement, detached object on a slightly sloping terrain. The apartment building has one underground floor and three above-ground floors. It consists of six housing units of varying size and layout. On the ground floor there is a cafeteria, while on the second and third floor there are always 3 flats. The end house has an atypical ground plan and is roofed with honeycomb roof. The project is processed using the ArchiCAD computer program.

The Peak and the Territory

The thesis is focused on symbolic revision of altitudes and border points of Tatra peaks. The subtle gesture disturbs exact and unambiguous textbook perception of a peak´s height. The thesis is happening on the given summits, the material used on their „growth“ and „transfer“ originates exclusively from immediate surroundings. The period of new summit´s existence is exposed to various weather conditions, eventualy to human factor, thus we can consider it as undetermined in terms of time. The issue consists of 5 video documentations of actions on the given Tatra peaks. The thesis is not exhausted by this. On the contrary, it promises spontaneous long-termed continuation.

Popis a distribuce škod působených vytloukáním a vystrouháváním srnce obecného v lesních porostech

This bachelor thesis is about the description and distribution of damage caused by roe deer in the form of fraying and rubbing. The thesis has been divided into two parts, the first part deals with a general view of the issue and the second part is the actual research, which consisted of collecting data on fraying and rubbing in a pre-selected suitable location, including the following suggestions and recommendations for practice. The research was carried out using a system of strip transects and recording damage sites in their vicinity. The map outputs show the amount of damage, its location and the type of damage, these signs clearly indicate the locations and individual trees most frequently visited by roe deer. The analytical outputs mention the occurrence of the most frequently damaged trees and their morphometric data. The most frequently damaged tree species was the norway spruce. The resulting connection between 2 roebucks territory boundaries which were found, the damage caused, and human-made natural boundaries cannot be ignored.

Evaluation of the physical basis of the de facto state in the case of South Ossetia using Bjørn Møller's definition of statehood.

This bachelor thesis deals with de facto states, precisely the case of South Ossetia, which it assesses in terms of its statehood. Bjørn Møller's definition of statehood, which distinguishes between three dimensions of the state - institutional, conceptual, and physical basis - was used to assess the South Ossetian case. This bachelor thesis addresses the physical base dimension: the economy, territory, and population. The thesis also uses the approach of strong, weak, and failing states, which is used to define the indicators more precisely under study for each component of the physical base. The thesis is divided into three main sections. In the first theoretical part, the theoretical approaches used in the thesis are introduced, and with their help, the indicators under study are proposed. The second part then presents an overview of key historical events, which provides the necessary context for the third part, which deals with the physical base of South Ossetia itself. The aim of the paper is then to answer the question of whether South Ossetia can meet the requirements placed on the state in the dimension of the physical base.

Conditions and factors for the admission of a new state into the Union - comparison of Puerto Rico with Hawaii and Alaska.

The bachelor's thesis Conditions and factors for the admission of a new state into the Union - comparison of Puerto Rico with Hawaii and Alaska deals with the development of these three territories. Although all three territories gained territory status at the same time, subsequent developments differed. While Hawaii and Alaska were admitted to the Union as the 49th and 50th states in the late 1950s Puerto Rico remains a commonwealth territory to this day. The thesis analyses several areas chosen by the author. In the common section for all three territories, it focuses on the history before joining the US; the demography and culture of the territory; development after gaining the status of the territory until the acquisition of the status of a state or commonwealth. In the case of Puerto Rico the thesis also analyses the development from gaining commonwealth status up to the present. The author searches for the key factors influencing a development of the territory. The identified influences and conditions are subsequently analysed and decided whether necessary for the territory to be accepted into the Union. SocialMaps Manifesto

In the past two decades, a digital copy of the world has been created with perfect precision. It is an unprecedented achievement of the third modernity, and the speed of its creation is fascinating. We walk through it daily and are a part of it without reflecting on its existence, its nature and its unclear transactional relationship. We have come to see the various mapping services and applications as obvious innovations. A simple fragment of the quantum of functionalities of our devices. Calculator, clock, email, maps. But a digital copy of the world was not easy to build. And it was certainly expensive. Yet it is offered to us for our use without any restraints. The central motivation of the companies that have created this virtual space — in which the dramas of humanity are notionally played out — is to monitor it continuously and carefully. Our behaviour, activities and interactions are the desired compensation. They are constantly analysed and interpreted into data that can be traded. The loss of privacy is a tax we pay. An unspoken transactional relationship has been sealed without our knowing its exact terms and consequences; and the corporations that formulate them are rapaciously avoiding legislative-legal framework. Map applications, which are today the most important product of cartography, are the sneaking hegemony that reduces the world to a few categories whose primary imperative is profit. Many of them use the map as a platform in which places are inserted to represent a simple reflection of the capitalist perception of the world. Shops, hotels, bars, restaurants, businesses. Such maps manipulate our view of the world by how they portray it and what they present to us in a bounded way. And by our conformity, we unwittingly accede to these practices and help to preserve their status quo. We can easily decide not to use the digital map services and applications in place, but they are only the symbolic tip of an ambitious project of monitoring our privacy. Maps are hopelessly caught up in a tangled web of Big Tech, software and the Internet of Things. They are drained of their influence and limitless potential to serve a single purpose. It is therefore necessary to seek a ways forward for a paradigm shift affecting the form, nature and function of digital web maps. This manifesto offers some of them.

Mentality of Jewish settlers in West Bank: An anthropological study

7 Abstract This Master's thesis explores the depth of Jewish settler mentality from the radically religious to the secularly pragmatic. The aim is to evaluate their influence on the politics of Israeli governments and Israeli society as a national unit throughout history, and furthermore to point out the phenomenological foundations that the settler movement exhibits from the point of view of national identity, territorial identity and that of religious tradition. This work has been prepared through the careful study of diverse literature which is devoted to the Jewish settlers themselves, their role in the creation of a new identity in the young state of Israel, the general concept of national feelings found in territorial and collective memory, and the correct historical classification of settlement aktivity including its comparison with similar communities outside of Israel. Through my research I have discovered that not only do the settlers living beyond the Green Line show strong national and religious elements, but that they also tend towards more radical forms of dealing with state authorities as well as how they solve territorial dilemmas. Exploring structural changes of employment in rural Czechia: territorial approach

The thesis searches for driving forces behind structural changes of rural employment in the example of Czechia subject to changing rural paradigm and the related question of rural economic viability represented by the employment performance. The research elaborates on the territorial approaches which categorises regions according to their degree of rurality. In addition, the detailed classification is made according to the change of non-agricultural employment in the period 2001-2011 in order to identify dynamic regions which showed performance above national average (leading) and those which lacked behind (lagging). The observations prompt the question why is the performance differentiated. Therefore, the regionally differentiated impact of processes such as deagriculturisation, deindustrialisation and tertiarisation in the period 2001-2011 is analysed by the use of analysis of components (namely shift-share analysis) and multivariate analysis (namely factor and cluster analysis). The thesis aims to provide answers in particular by giving a thorough analysis of how the changing rural paradigm (and regional theories in wider context) conceptualise the driving forces behind employment development in rural areas. Biology of three-toed woodpecker

In my thesis I have tried to find out how does forest management influence presence of the Three-toed woodpecker Picoides tridactylus.This species is considered a "flagship species" of an untouched primeval type of forest and therefore it requires our attention and protection. The thesis contains results of North-American studies focused on the species very similar to Picoides tridactylus. The main chapters are those aimed to provide information about how is the Picoides tridactylus affected by forest fragmentation, stand health condition and finally the impact of food supply on the occurence and behaviour of the species.
