The impact of the development of music streaming services on Czech radio stations

This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of the transformation of communication of Czech radio stations in the light of the development of streaming platforms, new media and technologies. In particular, it describes how radio stations use new media to communicate and complement traditional FM broadcasting. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the history of radio in our country, introduces streaming services as a new way of music distribution and summarizes the views of some authors who have dealt with the topic before. The practical part of the thesis consists of an analysis of media outputs of individual stations and interviews with respondents, professionals from radio practice.

Public radio in the Czech Republic, its current and future position in society from the perspective of millenials

This thesis deals with the analysis of listening to public radio in the Czech Republic among millennials. It wants to find out their listening habits and behaviour, their motivation for listening and their perception of the current position and future role of public radio in society. The theoretical part of the thesis explains the basic concepts that are essential for the thesis, introduces the methodology and content of the whole thesis, and also presents the theoretical approaches of cultural studies on which the thesis is based. These are mainly based on the concept of active audience, the theory of selectivity and the findings of the so-called Birmingham School. It briefly describes the historical development and role of radio in the Czech Republic and its current form. In the practical part of the thesis, it interprets its own empirical research, what it consists of, how it was conducted and what its conclusions are. This was carried out using a qualitative method and in-depth interviews with twelve respondents, asking twenty open-ended questions that explored participants' listening, motivations and perceptions of Czech public radio. Practical bachelor thesis Red steady go - story about prostitute Tereza uses the form of a broadcast documentary, which aims to capture and show the story comprehensively in the different roles of the respondent - as a prostitute, daughter, partner and an addict. The theoretical part defines the fundmental terms - the definition and first theoretical approach of prostitution, street, risk sex and gender. Furthermore divides the various forms of prostitution - street, private and club. The definition of the documentary form of the practical part, as well as a summary of the life of my respondent, is covered. Methodology of the work is described. Throughout the many levels of the character the audiodocumentary (practical part) seeks the reasons and experiences, that resulted in the present story of the respondent. The general level in the story is represented by a therapist and adictologist Ilona Preslová. Individual thematic parts are separeted by musical elements.

Potato Harvesting in Vysočina - radio reportage

This bachelor's thesis uses a radio reportage to show the process of harvesting potatoes on Josef Vlk's farm in Čelistná near Pelhřimov. In the first, theoretical part, the topic of reportage as a radio genre is mentioned with the addition of its past and present. One chapter will also focus on the basic orientation of the potato harvest. The second half is devoted to the methodology of making radio reportage. It explains the preparation, recording procedure and subsequent post-production.

The division of Czechoslovakia (radio interviews with selected personalities)

The radio interview is one of the basic genres used in radio. This practical bachelor's thesis is based on two radio interviews recorded by the author of the thesis with personalities of former Czechoslovak politics who experienced the division of the country into the successor states of the Czech and Slovak Republics in important positions. The theoretical part of the thesis first describes the historical event of the division of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republics using the mentioned expert sources. Next, the author of the thesis attempts to briefly summarize the situation of the two successor countries and their mutual relations 30 years after the act of partition. An important part of the theoretical part of the thesis is the introduction of the respondents for the radio interviews, which form the practical part. And the author of the thesis also defines the concept of a radio interview on the basis of the literature, explains the differences between its different variants and describes the practical aspect of the creation of such an interview on the basis of a concrete example. Palliative care ensures patients, through complex medical and psychological help, the highest possible quality at the end of their lives and a dignified departure from this world. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to expound to listeners and readers the reality of the work of people involved in this specific field, and also to contemplate on the necessity for every society to ensure dignified end of life for all their members. The practical part of this thesis that is composed of a series of radio interviews is accompanied by the theoretical part, which concisely reflects palliative care in scientific literature.

The manifestations of technological determinism on the selection of news topics in ČT24 and ČRo Radiožurnál

The diploma thesis entitled The manifestations of technological determinism on the selection of news topics in ČT24 and ČRo Radiožurnál seeks an answer whether the choice of news topics in TV and radio is influenced by the available technologies in each of the media, and whether they eventually choose different events to cover. The theoretical part describes concepts of gatekeeping, news values and also technological determinism. In the practical part then the author analysed three days in broadcast of the chosen media, in each it was two-hour segments around the main news at noon and in the evening. Selected topics, that ČT24 had and Radiožurnál did not, have been later analysed by semiotic analyses in order to find whether the visuals were the factor why the event was not presented by the radio. Context of the findings were given by six semi-structured interviews with journalists form both radio and television. From all the data obtained, it is evident that the television had dozens of topics more per day, caused by the time space given to the news reporting. Unlike Český rozhlas Radiožurnál, ČT24 focused significantly on the visual side of events, which could be the reason why editorial board may reject a topic proposed by the reporters.

Popularization of science in Czech audiovisual media with focus on astronautics

This thesis deals with the topic of processing and popularization of science, namely the field of cosmonautics within the context of the Czech audiovisual media. The first aim of the thesis is to critically analyze the content of selected episodes broadcasted on a science-popular program within the course of the years of 2021-2022. The second aim is to evaluate the use of popularization elements within the selected episodes through an application of suitable comparative methods. The dissertation is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical part of the work, a research was conducted based on Czech and foreign professional literature, with the aim of mapping and describing different approaches to the popularization of science in the media. This has been done by defining the terms science, mass media, scientific journalism and popularization of science within this context. An extensive part of the research is organized in a chronological fashion, encompassing the development and evolution of Czech scientific journalism, with its beginnings in the second half of the 19th century to the present day. Journalist podcast: Tramping

Tramping movement is a unique Czechoslovak phenomenon which accounts for one of the most significant subcultures in history of the country. Its roots date back as far as more than a hundred years and since then the tramping movement has seen a lot of changes in its characteristics as well as in its relationship with the mainstream society. In the means of a journalistic podcast based on interviews with two experts on tramping and two members of the movement, this thesis introduces the tramping movement to a potential wide audience. The theoretical part of this thesis adds scientific information about the topic of the podcast - tramping movement, but also about the genre of podcast itself. It also describes the production process of the podcast and evaluates the results.

This bachelor thesis is constructed from two parts. Practical part, that is attached separately as an mp3. file and theoretical part, that should broaden and amend the practical part. Practical part is designed as an interview with doctor Jan Paták from the Intensive Care Unit. The goal of this practical part is to show in detail how does the work of the first line doctor against the covid-19 looks like, how it influences his personal life and his opinions on the topics related to the pandemic. Theoretical part introduces radio interview as a genre, its history, types of radio interview, compares it to podcasts and points out the technical side of it, such as preparation of the host, lead of the interview and it's post-production edit. In the second part of the theoretical part, the author evaluates the observance of the described principles and reflects his own work.
